In the Pirate Spirit.....

  • .......I would dare say Rare has swindled us.

    I've enjoyed the game quite a bit the last couple days, once the technical issues were sorted out (kinda); but this game has NO long term potential, at the moment. There is no progression; once I've got my hull paint job, I won't have a reason to play anymore. And I'm almost there. Seas are empty, variety is non-existant... and there ARE NO PARROTS! How can you make a pirate game without PARROTS?

    I think Rare will have to suffer some player losses, and release some free "expansions" when they have some content to drop, to get people back. I can't believe there isn't a boss NPC ship, Blackbeard or the Navy. I can't believe you can't have flags. I CANNOT believe the only enemy in this game is different colored skeletons. This game is beautiful, with some of the best foundations I've seen, but it has less features than an N64 game. Rant over.

  • Well, to be fair, the expansions were always going to be free.

  • @v**a-hombre That's awesome. I love what I've seen so far (which is most of it), I just do not want a game I've enjoyed so much to suffer an early watery grave, so to speak. I think it's telling that so many people that have critiques of the game still love it, even besides the die hard fans. Rare has grabbed our attention- now the key is to hold it. Or draw it back when we look away.

  • Im pretty sure the only other things you will have to pay for are some cosmetic items they release here and there and those will probably only be a few dollars/pounds/Euros/Gold pieces. Meanwhile all other content they release is free for everyone.

    You're not saying anything that hasn't already been said through all the testing.

    A couple alpha testers who turned me onto this game can't even be bothered with it for the reasons you've mentioned (minus the Parrot thing).

    That said, these are the kind of players that will grind away days of gameplay in other games just to improve their characters combat effectiveness 0.5%. They can easily log +6hrs a gameplay a day.... not for me.

  • @stem589 Aye, but even those grindy players have nothing to gain here. It would be great to get perhaps, some weapon variety to work towards; not immediatley available, but not overpowered against new players. Grapeshot, ball and hook.... maybe heavier cannons that decrease speed and turn rate. As is, an experienced crew will dominate new crews anyways. Perhaps even just finding some special ammo types on islands to spice up naval battles. That would be perfectly fair. Set their ship alight? Already have the water bucket to put it out.
