Merchant Allience is missing....excitement

  • I predicted this one would be the least used. I mean cmon, you have to go find the supplies yourself, keep it alive and intact, then turn it in on time. Sounds pretty tedious and not too exciting. If they gave you all of the supplies and you just had to load it and keep it intact during transport then I could see my way to trying it, if it also paid a bit more than the other factions because it’s so dull and tedious compared to solving map riddles and fighting skeletons for skulls.

  • No issues with this Alliance's quests, they are fun and add some variety to the game.

But yes, I would like also more quests types, like some of the ideas brought in this thread, load the ship with goods, carry them to Outpost X, etc.

    @madscallion that's... no whale.

    holy!

  • Merchant Alliance voyages need to become "secondary" so you can catch animals while you seek treasures. That's really all it needs. It's a fun flavor but god I'm not going to do it once the novelty wears off unless I meet a pig while digging a treasure.

  • @madscallion said in Merchant Allience is missing....excitement:

well, for me they are fun
it's not only hunting animals it's searching the islands, looking what animals inhabit those, write it down on my Notebook (I refuse to use a already made list from somebody else, that's like using a walkthrough) and getting to know the game, while checking the islands I find bottles, chests, explore "the island" itself, see if there are remarkable landmarks for future Riddles/Chests , other ships ect

    there is plenty to do.
I love it, this game feels like an old game from the 80-90s where you can explore the world for yourself read hints, wonder what happened to some old skeleton you found, crushed under a giant whale bone

That's fun and all until you notice that animals spawn randomly. If you like sketching and pointing landmarks that's pretty cool, but in the end I ended up just memorizing landmarks on islands and looking at my compass to find them.

  • I think the key thing everyone needs to do is to consume actual rum whilst playing. It certainly made our clan's evening so much funnier.

@meingott77 Are you actually reading my posts or just talking? Either way this will be my last one on the thread, because I'm tired of repeating myself.

If merchants quests aren't to your liking - don't do them.

If raiding is more your style - do it.

If you want to search for chests - do it.

If you want a different experience - do something else.

"anyone who has a critique must be shut down"

that's all I get from your posts

anyways, I hope they fundamentally change these quests. Rare missed the point entirely and lost a big opportunity for expanding their gameplay. Smuggling is what pirates have always done. Not putting chickens in cages l**o. Maybe one day they'll add a vendor by the docks that spawns unique crates, which sell for more at other outposts, depending how far they are away. Each outpost could have unique goods that you could only get there. I'd love to be able to spend my gold on goods, risking my treasure at the chance of making a good profit at another outpost.
illicit could just mean stolen, or bootleg alcohol.
The cargo could be coconuts or bananas for all I care. I just want to ship goods and make money on the arbitrage.

Illicit cargo would just be cargo in this world. There's no police so who would care if you had stolen or illegal goods with you? I really don't wish for an Elite: Dangerous system with AI police ships patrolling and scanning you for things they can fine you for.
I agree delivery quests would make a fine addition to the merchant guild. I'm pretty hopeful they'll expand the quest mechanics to make more than 3 identical quests available at trader posts, and us able to carry more than 3 at a time, with just one active at one time.

  • I'd prefer a way to bait the pigs and chickens into a trap, or to lure them out with an item (bananas, seeds, etc) or something. Running around islands in the rain at night hoping for random spawns and trying to distinguish between specific types of pigs while skeletons are poking holes in me is already getting frustrating.

Merchant Alliance is definitely my least favourite faction right now.

  • @quickt1m3

I agree and disagree you can do multiple other things while,on a lliance quest a,day to night ratio is about 20 minutes minimum so 6 days you got a few hours actually.

As for excitement goes it can get annoying I had to find a white chicken which should be the most common but after 5 islands later finding random coops as well me and my buddy wound up with 6 no 7 chickens aboard but all were black, gold and, speckled. We avoided ships like the plague. The excitement was avoiding chaos but otherwise it does feel lacking.

But then again I'm almost 20 in each faction the quests are not real difficult ...yet... But maybe as you rank up it gets harder.

I did notice the higher ranked bounties from the skull lady you get a vast rewards and the Skellies not so much as hard as they hit harder one Skelly ahot me half healthed so 3 with guns well I jumped back to eat a 🍌

Hooefully then as you level with the merchant alliance it may get better I know last high quest I had to get 2 chickens and 1 pig and pigs are the worst. Eating all my supplies!!!

And animals need to be mid to high deck on gally and high deck on sloop because if you get water they can drown... sad face

  • What they ought to do with these is put a big list of what island wants what on a board, the merchant sells cages and it's up to you to get out there and deliver stuff to the outposts before somebody else fulfills the order.
