  • @captainpoomplex said in Griefing has removed me from the game:

If they didn't spawn kill you, you or any other player would try to board and get revenge. Every time we sank a ship this beta, this is exactly what we did to ensure no one snuck aboard trying to exact revenge.

Obviously you didn't read what the OP said.. He already cashed in his chest, so there was nothing more the aggressors could do. Seems to me, that the aggressors were mad they got out sailed and beat. So instead of moving on they continue to spawn camp because they were butt-hurt wasting all that time and came up empty handed. Once a ship is sunk, there no reason to stick around, just sail on.

  • @cap-h-barbossa lol ok I’m not attacking him personally. His personal skill or survivability is irrelevant.

What I’m saying is that if you survive being sunk (which most people do) you obviously have a chance to hide your chests or kill the enemy crew. However, if sunk and then killed again being able to spawn in that spot forever is ridiculous.

And in a sloop vs galleon scenario specifically this is really annoying.
Considering you need someone to protect the ship and another to collect chest while this 4 man crew swarms you.

Last time this happened we were forced to keep killing the whole crew another 15 times before I could collect all the chests

    That is ridiculous.

  • @toastywrath

Now THAT makes sense. I'll admit I seem to have read it wrong, if initially surviving the sinking ship, gold can still be saved, but if death post sinkage occurs, there should be a loss.

  • @cap-h-barbossa Correct. And it would only add to that feeling of being marooned.

Since you would need to hide your chests and survive long enough for your crew to return with a new ship in order to keep those chests.

  • I just read the first 188 posts (as of the time i opened this page, that's all of the posts). And i cannot fathom how anyone cannot sympathize with the OP's situation he was in, and even more so those who say the person respawning was trying to grief.

OP was put in a situation of keep dying or stay dead with no benefit to those who were spawn killing him. This is simply griefing. It's entirely different if they have to spawn camp while loading chests from his cargo onto their ship; this translates to just dealing with a mechanic that needs changing in the only way that's honestly fair to the victor of the battle.

To me, it's pretty obvious the ability to spawn camp mermaids was an oversight on the devs end. A simple fix would be to spawn dead players at the nearest outpost, or an outpost that an ally is at. They can use the mermaid or shipwright to return to the ship or spawn a new ship at their current location. For those who want a safe zone, the taverns should be the only safe area, and chests should not be allowed in the tavern, this is to prevent spawn camping the tavern.

P.S. To those who have an honest disagreement with this fix, feels the mechanics don't need a fix, or further continue to believe the OP is in the wrong based on what info we have on his situation (we don't have the griefers giving their side of the story here), it's going to be impossible to have a real debate with me, only because i already feel a lot of people here are griefers/cheaters, based on other posts in this thread. It isn't unlikely that people who have griefed in this game is on these forums, as the game can easily get support from those who have unjust fun because of that unjust fun.

  • 2 small Changes, to make the current System work just fine:

    1. Limit the number of times players can spawn at the mermaid, after their ship is sunk to one (maybe two). One chance to take revenge, to sink and kill the enemy and save your loot on a nearby island (like you can do now by respawning all over). But if you fail, you will not spawn at the Mermaid again, but directly at your newly spawned ship (like you would, if you talk to the mermaid now).

    2. Make Ships respawn out of sight from where they were sunk.

    Problem solved.

  • there were two times, when i played the scaletest, where we were sinking a ship, and after the guys left, we were like, hey new contact northeast, sinking the same guys again, be like 'new contact south-southwest' and sinking the same guys again (unitentional).

Right now u can only avoid that by starting a new session as soon as you have sunk a ship

  • @softpad

With servers so intentionally void of too many players, if you run into someone who's out for blood...... just end your session and start a new one.

Nothing more frustrating to a PvP player than casing someone for half an hour and having them cash and drop game.

Targets gone and they've fully wasted their time.

  • Cheers your loss. I've had this situation happen to me. It sucks but it's part of the game. You know what you do chill on the ferry of the damned for a couple of minutes and grab a snack. Seriously if you keep feeding them they'll keep camping your spawn. If you wait in the ferry for 3 minutes they'll move on. Anyone that complains abouts this sort of thing isn't using the tools available to them. It's like people that complain about being invaded in dark souls all over again. This game clearly isn't your cup of tea so trading in your preorder is the most intelligent part of this post.

  • @emanuel-wynnn
The game will never be able to actually prevent this sort of behavior until the spawn point for players is there ship where ever it may be. If you’re getting camped you should be able to scuttle your ship and spawn at a new one. If you’ve killed players for 10min you know whether or not they have actually loaded in when you shoot them before they can move.

If you’re not getting anything out of it other than killing players who just turned in you are griefing. It’s not a tactical advantage if you take advantage of someone’s computer not being able to load in instantaneously and camp their bodies with nothing to gain for 10min. That’s just being a poor player. There is no point in this kind of behavior and ultimately it only hurts the game and reduces the player base.

I love PVP and In the Beta I have hunted down many players for their treasure or just for the challenge of sinking a ship. If you’ve sunken the ship and/or stolen all of their treasure there is no point in continuing to kill them unless they are trying to attack you.
I agree he should have just logged out and back in and I wouldn’t have canceled my pre-order over it, but greifing like what was explained only negatively impacts the game and the player base. If you truly enjoy PvP in the game and stealing treausre you should want a bigger player base so you have more people to steal from.

  • https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/34959/this-massive-issue-people-keep-mentioning/89 this problem has been looked at and is being sorted out

  • @Softpad To Quote William Horman or Harry Hart/Galahad "Manners Maketh Man"

Without politeness and good manners, these scoundrels have done you a disservice.

Sure this is a game, but understand that there are far better players than those who attacked you. I have played many hours in this game and have not been griefed. Does it happen, yes, you are attesting to it, but 1 experience should not be the judgment of the game?

I advise you cancel the preorder, play the beta when available, then reorder the game.

I think you will see that the same experience was a group of 1 off mannerless hooligans out to ruin someone's day. Not the total of the experience.

  • I think everyone that is complaining about spawn killing is just being sensitive. yes, they were getting spawn killed but why would you swim back to the mermaid over and over again getting killed. why not just wait on the beach or do something else? or just find a new server. you can complain all you want about people doing that but it's going to happen and everyone does it. I mean when you see another boat on the ocean, do you know they have something already?

if you cancel your pre-order then fine, whatever makes you feel better. this is a pirate game. you think pirates thought "well if they don't have treasure I don't wanna mess with them."

  • The one instance my crew camped an opponent was when we were anchored at an island and they thought that they would take us. 2 (them) vs. 3 (us).

They shot a couple of times before we anchored and were being cheeky. Well we got a couple of hits on them and they got the message and retreated, until we got to the island.

Luckily, we are fairly skilled in maneuvering and got this galleon into a really tight space so as to conceal and protect our sides.

This little sloop sneaks up as we were looking for chests and tries to take off with our ship. Well, thanks to our skill they merely grounded her because they couldn't get it out, which gave us ample time and opportunity to let them realize what mistake they had made.

We killed them, with 0 effort. But this is where i admit to somewhat griefing. I took advantage of the fact that they respawn on their ship and camped it, killing them before they could act. Meanwhile my crew was raiding their supplies to add to our own. Needless to say they lost and scuttled their own ship. But they decided to try one last time to get the advantage on us. They died before they even climbed up the ladder.

This leads right into another story as a galleon came up to our now more exposed port side. But that's for another time.

  • and here I thought rare closing the servers is what removed you from the game lol

  • @Cap-H-Barbossa @CappJackSparrow Ye lads are on a whole different level! I've enjoyed yer conversations very much! Thank you!
