Color scheme in Sea of Thieves is a little dull in stress test

  • So I've played several hours of SOT, both in the second beta and in two of the stress tests. I've loved the game so far, but in the stress test, I noticed that the color palette was darker and relied more on subtle grays than on vibrant colors. Even on clear days with direct sunlight, the water was only light blue and not as rich a shade as I recalled in the beta. Perhaps I'm not remembering the color palette accurately from the beta, but I do find myself kind of bored by the colors. The island flora colors are bright and varied, but the gray sky and whitish water just don't speak to me. Was Rare experimenting with the color scheme in these past stress tests? I know location wasn't a part of the issue since I sailed all across the map and had the same problem. If Rare is planning on keeping the current color scheme, I'd urge them to sharpen the blues and greens to give the water and skies a deeper, brighter feeling. Any comments, corrections, and information are welcome.

  • @themechmuffin The colors change with the different biomes of the map. The east side of the map is a lot more vibrant and may be what you're remembering.

  • As @Cavalier-Gam said, it depends on the biome. In the north-west, the colors are vibrant. In the south, the colors are still bright, but not as bright as the north-west. In the north-east, the colors are grey and brown and it's my least favorite biome because it's just kinda bleh in my opinion. It's meant to be that way, it's supposed to look like everything is dying, but I don't like it. The north-west is probably what you experienced most in the beta, then the south in the scale tests.

  • @firetadpole7469 Oh yeah you're right. I meant that the west was the vibrant side.

  • I think you're just in The Wilds, the top right third of the map that is grey and washed out. Kinda depressing.

Can assure you that just last night I was sailing through waters on the middle-left-centre of the map that were vibrant sapphire-blue. Quite striking actually. The range of colours they can make the water is remarkable.

  • Generally, the lighting has become worse. The night is far too dark and the day is far too bright. This is very bad for the eyes, they get tired quickly. What was this done for? It would be good to get an explanation from RARE.
