The idea behind the Cartographers’ Guild is simple one, it is a company for players that like sail the sea endlessly or love to explore. The Cartographers’ Guild give players quests to explore, find and map the islands of the Sea of Thieves. Quests can range from sailing to an island to confirm its existence, to find a landmark or set of landmarks on said island, map uncharted islands or sail near the rocky islands.
As players gain more Reputation with Cartographers’ Guild, they become better a navigating as the Cartographers’ Guild will give them better and more detailed maps as rank get promoted within the Cartographers’ Guild.
Few ideas/examples how it may work.
- Player can buy special item called Cartographer's Toolkit from the Cartographers’ Guild at level 5. The CT (Cartographer's Toolkit for short) give the player handheld Sextant and special workbench on the ship that allows them to create and edit maps of the islands they are on. Other players get, store or steal these maps.
- With Sextant the Player can create their own maps of the island they are standing on. Player can only use the Sextant when he is standing still and it only fill what player can see, give him more reasons to more thoroughly explore the island.
- These maps the player creates can use for their own or make them for other players. These can be stored on board the ship (maybe some kind of file cabinet in the Captain’s Quarters or an Navigator’s Desk near or next to the Map Table).
- Navigator’s Desk allows to player to the writhe or place special marks on the Map he created. For example the Player find several chicken on Chicken Isle, he can place a chicken mark/symbol on the map near Chicken Isle and the number of chickens he has seen. Or he find interesting landmark on the island that can mark on the Map with a description, this can helpful with riddle quests. He can also write down interesting things about Island he explores.
- The Maps the Player creates can soled to the Cartographers’ Guild, however the Cartographers’ Guild only pays for maps that are accurate. How more explored player created map is, and with accurate or correct marks/symbols in right places and locations means that worth allot more.
- As the Player rises in rank within the Cartographers’ Guild, more of the rocky islands become visible on the Map Table, allowing the player better navigate traitorous seas and help his crew avoid these obstacles. Also the Player, or any another player with a CT, is able to edit the Map Table, editing and removing marks or text.
As for any lore what about this:
Cartographers’ Guild
The Cartographers’ Guild is a relative new company that just arrived at the shores of this remote place. This company is formed by famous Explorers and Map Makers. They seek to tame these wild seas and islands by creating complete map of the Sea of Thieves, allowing anyone to safely navigated these traitorous waters. They'll reward anyone who help them explore and map islands, and give out hansom rewards to anyone that brings them highly detailed and accurate maps.
