toxic players that lock you in the brig for no reason

  • i feel there should be a penalty/punishment for players who go into games and constantly vote to lock others in the brig, its not only toxic but does indeed ruin the game for everyone who it happens too, i know that people lock others in the brig so they can "make room" for their friends but that is absolutely no excuse to abuse this power. if you want to play with your friends then invite them to your party before you matchmake, this brig system is hands down the worst mechanic in the game due to that exact reason, its being abused and people are being forced into the brig with no reason whatsoever. its not fair to those who just want to play the game, and its not fair that there is no time limit in the brig either. it needs to be changed it get removed completely if there is no way to change it to make it fair to solo players just trying to have fun without friends or playing on a solo ship. ive been imprisoned on 90% of voyages where i was playing with friends and they ended up getting off, next thing i know 3 people join that were in a party and lock me in the brig (mind you that these 3 people CHOSE not to que into a 3 MAN galleon) JUST to be toxic and ruin the game for others. i do have video recording of this, audio and all proving that these guys need to be punished for this troll/toxic like behaviour.

  • even adding a function that makes these toxic people unable to put people in the brig would much better the playerbase into making it into a serious issue throwing someone in the brig without reason.

  • Yea I think there needs to be a timer set that you automatically come out with a cool down to them. It has been an issue. Once you find friends you like to play with it goes down. Most of the time it doesn't happen.

I got put in for picking up massages in a bottle. MEH. I still got the gold when they cashed in and left.

  • Just log out and start a new session...... not that hard

  • @canadianmuscle3 i dont give them the benefit of the doubt, i will not leave, i will sit there making sure i dont get kicked for inactivity while i watch netflix and they make me money for free.

  • @sergent-c****r thats not the point, your clearly not reading what i wrote. go back and read it again bud you might not think this is a serious issue but your 100% wrong if you think it isnt. its going to ruin the playerbase and kill the player count. but if you cant understand how or why this is an issue then just stop replying please.

  • This game is pretty bad for trolling. I only play with friends or solo. Sea of Trolls.

  • Most of these 'brig before anything' types May or May not actually be either:

    • Waiting for friends to join
    • Only want an X number on their crew (hopefully sorted now 3 man Galleon is included)
    • Are on Party Chat & haven't included you (yet)
    • Are on Game Chat and you are silent/havent attempted to use the Comms wheel

I was part of a crew last night/this morning who brig'd someone (who had been playing for half an hour-ish only via comms wheel) when they started moving our Galleon while we were searching for chests. Once brig'd, said player used the "Sorry" comm so after deliberation we voted him/her out.
From that, we had another hour or so of flawless and fun game time (until one of our crew decided to dispatch him for another mis-communication crime :-) @gorkarzanegi , didn't manage to tell you ingame but sorry bout that, we flogged and keelhauled him for killing you later)

What I am trying to say is, there is generally a reason why a player gets brig'd - but, if it IS purely for toxic reasons, then you have the option to report the player(s) responsible and block them if need be. That way, you won't have the issue (at least with those you block) in the future.
Like most of the aspects of this game, ADAPT and play YOUR way. Let's also remember that this build of the game is still 'in Beta form' and as such may/may not be like that come launch.

  • @upmarketattic23

Pffft please your being a bit over dramatic about this.

  • @sergent-c****r said in toxic players that lock you in the brig for no reason:

Ahoy mate, whether or not you regard this as a serious issue doesn't take away from the fact that it was a frustrating and disappointing experience for the OP, keep in mind the pirate code when replying.

@UpmarketAttic23 I think that one of the reasons the 3 man crew was introduced was to see if this in any way reduced the incidences of pirates being thrown into the brig. Rare takes player experience very seriously and will no doubt be looking at this further.

  • I totally agree!! Its pathetic! If they want their mates in the game with them sort it out before you go in the game! It may sound pathetic to some to complain but am not spending money to have to continually leave a game cause ave been put in the brig for some pathetic reason!! Hopefully they either give us the choice to report "toxic players" or if your first to make the lobby and the others come and join and decide to gang up, then allow us to make them "walk the plank!" Now that would be fun!!
Am off for me grog n see what happening on the seas, have fun out there!!

  • I just spent 45 minutes in the brig with a mother player. We had a really nice discussion about how if these guys didn't want us on their boat why they didn't use the new features and how maybe brig interactions could be improved like if we got boarded the players from other crews could break us out or if the brig would eventually be taken out at full launch. Nice to meet a player that really cares about the game.

  • It’s a tough call, because the brig was put into the game because of players who would join a crew throw their gold overboard drop the anchor in the middle of a battle and generally would make life miserable for everyone else. Having a brig mostly put an end to this sort of behavior, although the addition of gun powder kegs has brought it back, somewhat.

Does the brig cause problems with idiots who throw new crewmembers into it instantly? Yes of course it does. Yet I’m fairly certain that the active destructive trolls who could ruin the whole cruise and were eliminated by the existence of the brig were worse.

  • @capn-light9g so losing a massive amount of your player base due to a griefing abuse issue couldnt be worse? you may need to take a look at half of the forum going on a rampant rage spree over this exact topic my friend

  • @upmarketattic23 I agree. I was immediately thrown into to brig the moment I spawned on a ship with 3 other players. This does not promote teamwork or camaraderie. It definitely decreased my overall enjoyment of the game.
