We really need an option to disable cross play, people with a mouse have a large advantage over controllers especially when strafing.
Was outpost camped 2v4 this morning and we could barely kill one of them. Both of us are decent at aiming but in this game it really matters, especially with anything other than a sword, despite what some claim.
Please give us an option.

You are right but the right thing to do is cross platform , see not a lot of people prefer pc from xbox or other consoles , so we cant make people that are friends with eachother from different platforms not play together . This is not a right thing to do , but i believe you are kind of right . This game is made to make people happy , if you do not enjoy it , we are sad to hear that

Obviously, as soon as Closed Beta allowed the "Play Anywhere" feature, I jumped to finally try SoT on Xbox and... ouch, I really admire console players dexterity with the console controller :P
This game is kinda "unplayable" to me on Xbox (at least regarding PVP), totally not used to FPS control with a controller. But that's totally me, not used to it.
Countering this fact, I've been expertly beaten at close PVP by some Xbox players (well, at least 1, eh), so I'm assuming that it's all a matter of being used to playing FPS with a controller and being good at it, I guess :)
I love the cross play feature overall, I've met some very nice people on PC from this game so far and befriended them. However there are times like this morning where you want to make some loot and a persistent PvP crew who you cannot compete with due to hardware constraints will make it impossible to enjoy this otherwise fine game.
I also have concerns about the inevitable cheats and hacks which plague all PC titles with PvP. Xbox One is a secure closed platform (at the moment) when it comes to multiplayer hacking and cheats; it's a huge reason why I made the switch from hard-core PC gaming to mostly consoles. What are Rare doing about anti-cheat implementation? Would be nice to know and I implore Rare to seriously consider a toggle that defaults to opt-in to cross play but we can change should we wish to. The most successful cross play games like Rocket League have this implementation.

People with a mouse do not have a 'huge advantage.' There are no cross hairs for the weapons, they are dreadfully inaccurate to boot (historically accurate), and they have no stats. Frankly, I think the console gamers have an advantage in this game just due to controller interface: I've played with several PC gamers in this game and they were all struggling with what buttons did what.

PC players can join Xbox Live parties if that's what you're talking about. It might be a little clunky to invite them if they're not on your friends list already but they can do it.

Sounds like you are over analyzing in game that any encounter and you lose, it has to be a pc player who is better because he has a mouse, when the crossplay was first introduced the veteran players that have been playing from the beginning didn't even know it was on at the time because rare did not say anything and nobody could tell they were playing against a different platform.. You seem to be this amazing exception that you can tell who is who which is so weird as you are only new to the Beta.
What makes you think I do not own a PC also, or know any PC players or that I am even able to place a crosshair mid-screen on my ASUS gaming monitor? Nothing about anti-cheat either? You seem to have everything wrong. Try again.
Everyone worth their salt knows mouse and keyboard is more accurate, especially without aim assist (which this game doesn't have), this doesn't mean you cannot compete at all with a controller because you can, but anyone who does is at a disadvantage. That people are arguing there is no difference is disingenuous at best.
You can have cross-platform party chat to the person somewhere above, I use it frequently and it's pretty cool. :)

You do understand that people play on the PC with controllers as well? Don't know why, but they do.
I've been playing the beta on PC with a Xbox One controller. In my case it's mostly because my wife started enjoying the game and took over my Xbox so I moved to the PC to keep playing but I'm a controller person in the end.

I will mention one thing though; I haven't pre-ordered and was accepted to the alpha. The relevance is that it doesn't matter how long I've been registered and speaking now; a huge chunk of this forum wouldn't be able to discuss a subject using your fallacious criteria today should we all abide by it. It's absurd. In fact I'd argue that now some of us have had extended time with the game (and maybe other experience) we have a better understanding therefore instead of knee-jerking we are discussing from reasoned experience in a constructive manner instead of ignorance and rudeness.
@g0a I 110% percent agree with this statement, why implement the cross-play/cross-platform feature and not give a toggle option for it, Fortnite is also a great example, they just released this functionality and they give the players the option to opt-in or out at anytime, i never understand why most technology companies never give a toggle option for certain features, i know they do it to force people to use the product how they want them to but it turns off many people to those products like me. There is not a good enough reason it not have a toggle option. With Fortnite again, last year they "accidentally" turned on cross-platform play with Xbox and ps4 for a couple days then had to turn it off after sony got onto them about it, it can be done easily, developers have just gotten lazy and most arent even avid gamers who dont understand what gamers really want.
Xbox desperately needs this option. Please, please make this an option.
The largest reason being Hackers. For the most part you do not see hackers on console, but they are ruining this game because you can not choose to play with pc players. I don’t care about the mouse vs controller vs keyboard argument, it’s the hacks that’s the problem.
Ran into hacker after hacker last night. These guys have crazy amounts of health. In one server all four of our crew could not kill a guy as he stands on our deck typing “lol” then takes our skill fort key and cashes it in as we are all constantly shooting and swiping at him. I see aimbots out there for this game but I haven’t had a problem against that yet but these invincible pirates really suck.
I don’t mind being beat by a better strategy or amazing sword play but Losing hours of loot to a cheater completely takes the thrill out of the game.
Please make cross platform play a option and not always on.

Iam 50 48 45 and really good in pvp but I just cannot kill a guy on pc who can jump and sword swing on the row. I don't mean to stop the cross play. Just to be able to desactivate it. It's so obvious!!!

If this was Overwatch, Csgo, Pubg, Fortnite etc, this would be a valid concern. Those are competative shooters and need a 100% fair playfield to work. Sea of Thieves isnt and wont ever be competative. Minecraft has first person controlls and has a PVP element and works with crossplay on many consoles and PC, Rocket league is mostly in favor of console players since it comes with standard analogue controlls as opposed to KBM controlls.
The best solution would be for MS to give the X-Bone KBM support. This way we can all choose between the same controll imputs.

This is a balanced crossplay title with ultra low skill ceiling, you just need to improve.

@g0a I don't know man, I play on PC but I use an Xbox One controller, and i've never had an issue in PVP. I have my sensitivity turned up just shy of max and it seems to work just fine. I tend to hit what i'm aiming at at any rate. I think with a little practice you will be able to hold your own against mouse and keyboard jockeys

In all reality, adding this option would barely affect the game, and it’s affect would be mainly positive. Players who want to play with friends will just deal with crossplay, and appreciate that it’s possible, Xbox people are the majority who play so even if half of them disabled it the pc community would still have a pool of Xbox players larger than their own to match make with. There is no good reason why this shouldn’t be there. Servers are low pop, and if the game is supposedly so casual with a low skill ceiling then idk why people are so vehemently against the idea either.... yeah other content would be nice but this really shouldn’t be that difficult of a change that it would get in the way.

Hahaha, months later, and the first encounter in game months before that, that’s one thing I really miss about the pioneers. We had some good parleys after seeing each other in random sessions too, that’s so rare in the full game, i Would love some server options and fleet mechanics.
I've played on both Console and PC and PC has a huge advantage over console players; from hotkeys for all equipment to precise aiming with a mouse and render distance. I play a lot better on PC then Console however most of the time I'm playing on console.
There needs to be an opt-in option as this game is a perfect example of why crossplay with the PC is a bad idea (and I doubt people on PC play with controllers).
