Two Gunpowder Barrels Didn't Sink Galleon

  • Hey all, I was playing the Closed Beta and we had stored two gunpowder barrels. We took another Galleon by surprise and were able to get one barrel inside and ignited it and we also ignited another one on the out side. This was not enough to sink their ship. That is bogus IMO. Two should be enough. The only thing I can think of is that they were on the same end of the boat. Should we ignite them at different ends for more damage? How many barrels do you need to ignite to get a guaranteed galleon to sink? We were sure we would sink it and be an awesome moment, but they were able to repair from TWO DIRECT HITS FROM GUNPOWDER BARRELS.

  • So from what you describe, it's likely the 2nd gunpowder barrel was redundant, blowing holes where the first barrel already did. You definitely want to spread them around. On top of that, the only way it wouldn't sink is if the crew then patches those holes up ASAP. Try to lure the crew down into the hull near the barrels before you blow them up. Taking a few out while creating a bunch of holes is really hard for them to come back from.

  • @captain-soio Ok. This is absolut stupidity, and I won't believe you until you prove this. I can't believe that Rare would made this.

Really, I think two should be enough, too.

  • @captain-soio Yeah, sounds like you needed to blow them in separate locations. If you do two at the same spot, the second one won't contribute if all those holes are "already open". Was the enemy crew not onboard? Because they can also be repaired like any other damage.

  • @captain-soio
You don't need to ignite the one in the water, if you release it directly under the ship, it will float up & detonate on impact ;)
Each barrel will produce 4 holes in a ship, but as mentioned if they were in the same area it may have blown the same holes.
None the less, if it was a full crew, they could in theory manage to patch 8 holes, just!!!

I agree, they should call them firecrackers instead. I also think that we shouldn't have to place the barrels in separate locations. If two barrels go off, then it should make a specific amount of holes in the ship. 4-6 holes per barrel that goes off. Even if a crew is all on board, they should not be able to recover from two direct hits with barrels. Again, if they damage is going to be so low on them, they should just call them M-80s (Firecracker).

They should stack, even if the barrel goes off in the same place. So, the one that went off inside, which should do even more damage, should cause 4 holes to appear at the front of the ship. When the second goes off on the outside of the ship, it should just add 4 more holes to the boat, just where the other holes did not appear for a total of 8 holes. If a crew can patch that if everyone is on board, then it should be increased to 10-12 holes, to guarantee the boat to sink. Any boat even close to IRL would go down with just ONE barrel. I know this game is not realistic, but still, barrels should cause more damage, especially if ignited inside the ship. There should be no coming back from two barrels. The crew should be good enough to prevent two barrels from directly hitting the ship, if not, goodbye.

  • @captain-soio Jeah. I would go with that, even when I got shooted by you and your barrels...

  • Shrug directional damage matters. That won't change, and they're certainly not going to turn it into some instant ship kill.

  • I mean if the crew is there and quick enough, they can patch and bail the damage easy. It's not going to blow a massive hole in the ship that's unrepairable. You act like they advertised powder kegs as some super weapon. They're typically meant to deter chasing ships behind you.

I'm not worried about what kind of hole is made, I feel that the barrels should do more damage. Shame on me if I expected the barrels to actually sink ships. The current state of barrels are just annoyances, and if that was what they are going for then it works, but when they annouced the barrels I imagined something that would make sinking ships easy or easier, but that is not the case. Just a firecracker to waste crews time collecting. Not worth bring on my ship at the moment.

Well, kinda yea, if two barrels go off, then yea, is should kinda insta kill. I mean, they are two explosions.

  • @captain-soio

Then everyone would either farm for barrels to troll, or they would be too afraid to haul them around in case they go off.

To elaborate further, you mention that in their current state, powder kegs are just a minor annoyance? So are cannonballs, sinking, and PVP in general. They aren't meant to drastically impact the outcome of any situation just like the above.
