Suggestion for improving positive relationships in the game - Social Area in game

  • Over the past eight years of playing, I’ve often heard people say that the best thing about Sea of Thieves is the chance encounters and the positive relationships the game fosters, and I wholeheartedly agree with this view.

For this reason, I suggest creating a Safe Zone where players can enter to meet others without the use of weapons and without treasure on board.

    Concept:

    • Remove all traders from the outposts and relocate them to the Sea Dogs Tavern. This is intended to encourage players to interact and meet one another under the guise of cosmetic shops.

    • Unlimited ship resource refills.

    • Fun mini-games like those in the Monkey Island tales

Access to the Sea Dogs Tavern is only possible by diving in, so that the area cannot be used to escape combat and lose all the loot on board. It would be truly unfair to use this trick to stash loot in the safe.

This is a mechanic that already exists, and from a coding perspective, I don’t think it would be that much of a problem.

You can leave the area by sailing normally, as alliances useful for achievements (e.g. thrones, Glitterbeard and the like) may form thanks to the people you meet, so you remain on the same server.

These are all mechanics already present in the game and could greatly enhance the gaming experience for those genuinely seeking positive social interactions.

Perfect place to attack people just trying to shop.

Only safe space is. Safer seas and Ferry
Anywhere else would just be exploited and more of a place to run to and hide.

At this point is a hassle to shop for my clothes having to leave a server every time just to join it. No thanks.

But!! a social hub is always welcome. Just have nothing in it.

Without weapons how you can attack?

Safer sea is for only 1 crew. This mecchanic would push the social area in High sea.

Anywhere else would just be exploited and more of a place to run to and hide.

No because you can't expoit the diving. Its the same if you run out in HG or Tall Tales.

Its optional, no one force you to join the hub.

  • @mogetius-ita I think the concern is with the canons/ ships right outside the safety barrier? Plus, kegs?

  • You just described how it was in the Arena while waiting for the match to start. Different crews all bunched together having nothing better to do but exchange insults.

No, the communication should be organic, crew to crew, pirate to pirate when they meet.

  • Safe zones are a bad idea to be honest.

One might imagine an area that acts as a shield against cannon fire, a sort of invisible barrier (much like our beloved invisible rock in the middle of the sea)

Why? There’s no real benefit to it, and it couldn’t be used as a refuge to escape open-world PvP. It’s simply a way of enhancing player interaction.

Since you've been playing for eight years I assume you remember the Arena days and how we had to wait for a match in the Sea Dogs Tavern with random contestants and it was just players blasting trash r&b and hip hop, brain rot and nonsense speech.

I think removing the shops from the outposts is a bad idea as well, the outposts don't feel populated enough as they are and removing those stores and NPC's would make it feel more noticeability dead and empty.

I really don't like criticising people's ideas and suggestions but I don't feel this one would work very well.

What we really need is an adventure co-op mode to bring players together in a common goal without the risk of losing progress by participating with eachother.

I don't know if you ever played destiny raids but I think something like that in the SOT world would be good and better than a static safe zone location like a virtual chat space.

You know what I mean? A challenging cooperative raid adventure with puzzles and bosses with RNG prizes for completion. Maybe 4 to 8 players.

You could host a hang out space when open seas arrives and see how it goes? You could use the sea dogs tavern too.

  • @mogetius-ita
That would be great. My concern is of how others would exploit it.

  • I get that the intention is to foster better interactions on the seas but I don't think this is the best way to do it. Instead, the game designers need to focus on real reasons for teaming up, to distribute loot according to the Trading Company, and to also have specific reasons to approach them.

If Emissaries were able to select 'trade perks' (on Grade III and Grade V), that were unique, and able to be solicited by other crews, it would be a reason to be approached knowing that another crew is coming for your assistance and not your loot.

Of course, the entire thing could go south, and everyone could blow each other to bits if they wanted—that's part of the game—but having a good reason to approach a crew is the step in the right direction. Right now, there's no real reason to do so unless you're really struggling with some PvE.

  • @mogetius-ita I think people (including you) tend to forget that SoT is a pirate game
