Why do people even try these things???

  • So a HUGE repetitive issue with players is, NOBODY responds properly to a mega keg threat. To quote my buddy sovereign Archibald over at Ancient Spire; "WANT TO HEAR MY SHOCKING EXPLOITS???!!!" (love that guy) I have 3 mega keg stories to share, 2 ended in the players killing themselves. 1: So my friend and I raided a shipwreck on a sloop, and we ended up SOMEHOW getting attacked by a sloop, and galleon, and brig (OH MY!) at the same time (galleon came first, but brig and sloop came in just as we were finishing the galleon off) Sank the galleon, and the sloop and brig anchored around us, and they tried to kill us. (Back when the galleon came and attacked us, we had just started, and I had sent up a mega keg and a chest. as the galleon approached, we pulled anchor. As we circled them, I insisted we grab the keg ICE, And a good thing we did!) So I said "why we just standin around glaring?" and grabbed the keg. I swam to the brig, and bro saw me a mile off, but tried to shoot the keg IN the kill zone. Killed himself with a well aimed shot XD. He sank, so I boarded the sloop, threw bone callers to distract the guy, killed him, set his cannon of rage up on deck and started shooting till it overheated. For good measure, I threw some firebombs in. He scuttled. I was to busy celebrating to notice the overheating cannon. BANG!! 2: We raided a Reaper fort and got attacked by a solo sloop girl. We sank her, being in a galleon, and did the fort. During a phantom wave, our ship sank due to 2 ghost ships and the fact that only one of us were on the ship. So one of us went to bring the ship back while myself and another friend squatted the fort. The solo sloop girl, seeing we were gone, came back. We didn't use cannons, we wanted to be sneaky. My friend held off skellies while I grabbed a Mega keg. She anchored, and harpooned the fort. She got on the island, and walked right past me! XD Just as the moment of dawning comprehension came, I had already gotten in range and lit the fuse. She, unwisely, followed, and got kegged herself. She didn't bother us again! 3: I was soling, and was bored, doing a smuggling run cuz no world events, and I saw some grade 5ers grinding eternal guards. I went near them, and they fired upon me (normally, I am a peaceful player, and avoid pvp when I can. The only times I will attack is if they fire first, are on FotD, have something of HUGE value, are toxic, or just doing hourglass) So I just sailed up to them, abandoned ship, and started swimming with a mega keg. All 4 of them saw me, and were all lined up trying to kill me. I took the blows, but kept swimming (those kegs make good shields!) I got in range, and BOOM goes the megakeg. Luckily, my ship was in no poor state, so I went back. And what a haul!

    MEGA KEG SAFETY 101
Please players, a lot of pain and rage quits can be saved by taking these precautions:
IF A PLAYER IS COMING TOWARDS YOUR SHIP WITH KEG:
-Don't panic, and don't assume he wants to hear your shocking exploits.
-If they are in range, DO NOT TRY TO SHOOT THEM. Grab a grapple gun and take the keg from them. shooting could set off the keg
-If you can't stop the keg, GET OUT OF THE WAY. Surviving a keg blast could save you and your ship, or at least give you a chance to tuck.
YOU HAVE A KEG AND CAN'T GET RID OF IT UNDER PRESSURE
-If you are anchored at an island, harpoon onto the island then harpoon the keg. dispose of it there.
-If you are on open sea, light fuse and toss overboard. You should have time to get away
-If you are anchored on open sea, and can't get the ship moving, TAKE THE KEG AS FAR FROM SHIP AS POSSIBLE. Getting away could reduce risk
-The best option is to use it on attacking crews, but if you can't get away from your ship, dispose of it in crow's nest. should minimize damage.
    GENERAL TIPS AND SAFETY:
-On sloops, in my experience, the best place to place kegs is on the barrel in the center of sloop. cannonball splash damage can't reach it.
    -Otherwise, crowsnest
-If you know a keg is coming, grab a grapple right away.
This probably isn't helpful to the veterans of this game, but if you do struggle with kegs, this will be useful. But seriously, WHY DO PLAYERS THINK SHOOTING KEGS IS A GOOD IDEA????

    Firebombs, Blunderbombs...splash damage can.

    Otherwise, crowsnest

    Sniper/Pistol shot.

    Big boom is big boom.

  • @burnbacon Technically there is no safe spot on the ship, but for PvE and players who shoot just cannon balls, center barrel. Burning blade… just hold it in your sweaty hands. I am saying why do people shoot kegs when players are about to use them on them?? They are gonna to die shoot or not unless they smart about it

Why shoot kegs ? The opponent might be in a less dangerous spot for your ship & crew than when you let them continue walking or swimming with the keg. It will also guarantee the opponent is going to the ferry as well.

  • @lem0n-curry I am talking about when a dude is in range of your ship and you shoot the keg and destroy your Own boat

I'd rather have the keg explode a few feet away and cause only a few low tier holes than have the person board and cause more damage.

Or are you talking about shooting at a keg while the shooter has kegs on board and thsoe will explode as well ?

  • @lem0n-curry I am talking about when people bail out and start shooting you when you are next to the ship

A few holes won't sink the ship, plus the opponent goes to the Ferry.

I'd rather have that than the keg with or without the opponent on my ship, causing more damage when it goes off and maybe ruin the wheel and / or break a mast.

  • @lem0n-curry Ha ha... Yeah... I need to send you a screen recording of what happens. The mega kegs will sink pretty much any ship almost instantly, and if all crew members are in the water trying to shoot the keg that in it's position would sink the ship either way, then get in range of the keg and kill themselves and sink their own ship. The smart the to do is to grab a grapple and steal the keg from him

Assuming you're closer to the ship or even on the ship, you now have a keg on board or even closer than the opponent had which can be easily shot at or thrown at (fire bomb or other) and therefor cause more damage to the ship.

I haven't sailed much on anything bigger than a sloop since the black powder kegs, but they've been nerfed and you can easily recover when alive and someone is on the ship.

If the whole crew is swimming & shooting, then yeah, they need (better) communication so not everyone goes after one opponent.

  • @lem0n-curry Well the black powder is very hard to set off, and takes about 15 seconds to explode once the fuse is lit. It deals enough damage in a big enough area to take out even the BB if you are 20 feet away. Pretty easy to get rid of. I have stopped possible bombers with a grapple gun. just have a grapple and EoR. That should clean it up. Then hide/dispose of the keg.

  • @snugplayer18335 said in Why do people even try these things???:

sloop, and galleon, and brig (OH MY!)

    lol

  • @europa4033 Well if all players in the water are running around shooting, they can’t get there in time. Was it Athena, stronghold, or black powder? You can recover from both Athena and stronghold, but black powder is nigh impossible. Yeah. The smart thing is to either grapple away the keg, or get away if you can’t eliminate the player

My galleon crew and I dive to a server to see a FotD up. We sail over to it, and see a galleon guarding, with a brig and 2 sloops there doing it. They were all in an alliance. We sail over, galleon turns and starts coming after us. We sink the gally first. Then the brig comes after us, we sink them next. One player on the fort dives in the water, and we get mega-kegged. We recover, and sink the sloop. Then we get hit with another mega-keg. We recover again, and here comes the gally, and shortly after that, the brig. We sink them both at the same time. I have the video. These players suddenly turn friendly, and suggest we do Glitterbeard. While we all go off and do it, my flex stays behind, finishes their stacked FotD, and rowboats all the loot to sell to Reapers.

I think the secret to a mega-keg, is to stay alive. If you can do that, it's not an instant-sink.

Wow you really like that story dontcha? That's the second time you've posted that LOL.

Yeah, I noticed a few replies on the forums were getting duplicated for some reason? Regardless, I deleted it.
