Athena's Fortune Voyage - Skirmish of Freedom

  • A large Ashen Fortress emerges within a few fixed locations in the Sea, and in the name of Flameheart. The Pirate Lord has hired you to destroy this Fortress, and leave no survivors.

Upon arriving to the massive fortress, a battle similar to the end of Legend of the Veil will commence. You must break down the main gate of the Ashen Fortress while under heavy cannon and sniper fire from the Fortress, as well as a makeshift Volcano. Gunpowder barrels can be used at X5 the effect of cannonballs to break down the gate, but will be prioritized by the defending Skeletons.

When you break the gate down, you must then enter the Fortress and sabotage the Volcano to cause it to "Self Destruct". To do this, players must attack gunpowder storage rooms guarded by Ashen Skeletons and an Ashen Lord that contain Obsidian Kegs (I'll admit I was a bit boring on this because I couldn't think of some lore reason). These kegs do not deal damage to ships, but harm players and the stability of the Volcano. When you attempt to detonate one, nearby skeletons will attempt to defuse it, so you must defend it well.

Once the Volcano has been destabilized, the Sea will begin to shake. Players must now make a quick escape with their ship and escape the Fortress. You will need to sail away from the Fortress to avoid the massive map-tile sized detonation that will come a few minutes after. This explosion is akin to a world marker, and can be seen and heard through the Sea! Failing to escape the blast will result in your ship gaining all its holes and will most likely kill every Pirate on board. You do NOT want to be around when the Volcano detonates!

After the detonation, the voyage is officially complete! Players may now return to the wreckage of the Ashen Fortress to obtain a handful of Ashen CoFs for their work. Be careful, as this loot can still be stolen!

  • I would play this all the time

  • "Makeshift volcano" really kinda takes this apart. You can't make a volcano properly, there is no such thing as a "makeshift volcano". Having to leave and then come back, especially going a whole map tile away is a bad decision. That just makes it take longer for no reason other than because you want it to be more tedious. Beyond all of that, this really just sounds like a worse version of the already bad sounding Ashen garrisons they're going to add in S18
