Cursed Rum?

  • Although many people don't like season 17, I think lore-wise it has been a system reset from the storytelling dumpster that was Tasha's skeleton curse ark... ("the power of Friendship turns her back into a human" is legit the end of that story ark; please pass the bleach)

Today, I want to talk about rum. Some of you might agree that we need more drink options in Sea of Thieves—rum, Near Grog, coffee, tea, etc.— that's not my focus right now. I'm referring to the new rum introduced in the first act of Season 17. Sure, at first, people dismissed it as a cheap reskin, and some still do, but there's much more to it than meets the eye.

first off, these rums each relate to a variant of the skeleton curse.

    Floral fate: Salad skellies
    Dark Demise: Shadow skellies
    Golden Greed: Golden skellies

sure, that could just be a coincidence, perhaps just some smart branding or they were brewed in a unique way related to that kind of skeleton?...

    But.

If you talk to starbright Ix, and ask what the smugglers smuggle, she will say

"We are interested in high-value contraband. Cursed rum, high art and high explosives! And this is just the start."

    Cursed Rum.

if you talk to the other smugglers and check the journals, however, you learn they do, in fact, drink said rum.

So I ask for you all today to keep your eyes open, and don't drink any of that rum until we get more information in it's curse.
