Season 17 suggestion please read!

  • Ahoy Rare Crew,
I’m writing with a mix of respect and mischief, because as much as I love Sea of Thieves, I wanted to raise a thought that’s been echoing across the community: why not release all of Season 17’s treasures at once?
First, let me say this — I absolutely love the new season. The Smugglers’ League, the hideouts, the voyages — it’s some of the best work you’ve ever done. You’ve charted a fantastic course, and it shows how much care you’ve poured into keeping the seas exciting.
But at the same time, I think staggering the updates takes some wind out of the sails. Many pirates feel the staggered approach makes the seas a little too calm between drops. While it stretches content, it also leaves stretches where players are restless, waiting for the next voyage to begin. Even our favorite Sea of Thieves YouTubers — who keep the community buzzing with adventure — have said it’s tough to keep content fresh when they can’t explore everything right away.
If all the updates were hoisted onto the deck at once, it would give players and creators alike the freedom to chart their own course — whether that’s binging through every voyage or savoring them at their own pace. It could spark a tidal wave of excitement, creativity, and player-made stories that carry the season naturally, rather than by trickle.
Of course, I know you have a captain’s chart plotted for good reasons — balance, testing, pacing — but from the deck of this humble pirate, I can tell you the crew is eager for one grand treasure haul. Even if it’s not possible, I hope you’ll consider how the staggered model affects the community’s winds.
Until then, I’ll be on the horizon, spyglass in hand, waiting for the next tide you bring in.
With respect (and a touch of mischief)

  • Meh. The best YouTubers don’t need fresh updates or something new to create content. That lazy writing. As storytelling just that, telling a story by making things up. Create it yourself.

Example. Just because we have one voyage atm, doesn’t mean we can make our own. Stockpile those black kegs and sail until you meet a ship…

  • I did all of S17 comms in 3 days and now I'm just doing S16 stuff again. S17 basically doesn't exist from what I've seen. It would be nice if they just like... did a yearly update, or maybe every 6 months, instead of something like this. 3 months and all we get is a bunch of retextured loot we already had.

  • @burnbacon but it would get boring if we got just a video of someone stacking barrels and blowing someone up and it would make content creation so much easier and better if they just released it all.

  • @alphadruid7474 If they dump everything at once, content will be explored within the first month and the last 2-3 months of the season will be "boring". If it's staggered, there is at least something fresh every month.

They already have done content the way you are suggesting and have changed it to this way because of those reasons.

  • @alphadruid7474 yeah sots dead, pace was playing WoW 6 months ago and hasn't stopped last I checked, its been my favorite game for over 3 years at this point, and as much as I love it, I've even stopped playing it bc there's nothing to do other than grind hundreds of hours of meaningless commendations. Rare needs to recognise that a large part of its older player base wants pvp, and making another off-brand merchant voyage wont excite them or even make them want to come back. What they need to do is 1. fix hourglass and related bugs to it 2. legitimately look at what players want (not more go here pick up this go here sell this voyages) 3. make things that actually will get players to play on high seas again (Burning Blade was amazing for like 2 months) 4. add some kind of ranked/competitive hg or arena type system or a tdm mode. I know that this seems like a lot, which it is, but they're running a live-service game, which the whole thing with that is they kinda have to keep it entertaining or all the players leave

  • @d3adst1ck I agree but the way I’m suggesting would be the quickest and easiest way to do it they could find a better way than this like making the beginning update the biggest one then get smaller overtime so it could build excitement towards the next update.

  • You did not get the point, the reason why they dividing season into months, aint out of greed, its just to have time to provide more stable and polished updates.

  • Reason this season is called "Worse" is poor marketing. There big show off, Cinematic trailer, and the First patch was just a Voyage with 1 good new item (and a Non-Faction) which they should of cleared up the misunderstanding. For such a show, it was let down compared to others.

If they released everything at once, Im positive it would still be the same thing. Players calling it boring, worse update and waste, Along with multiple bugs and crashes due to so many new things added in short time.

  • @d3adst1ck Yeah dude I'm so happy for this first month of commendations for S17. My favourite one so far is to read 8 books, but deliver 15 kegs is a close second... What do you mean dude? S17 content was done with in 3 days for most players, no one still has comms to do for S17 by this point unless they just aren't interacting with it. By this point, you could have done all the S17 comms without actually trying to. As long as you loot any smuggler shipwrecks you see, you're guaranteed to get all of the commendations
