Server Merge doesn't end, treasure is lost

  • Hey everyone,

    my friends and I are consistently encountering a game-breaking bug during server merges. When a server merge is initiated, the notification text appears on screen (e.g., 'The world is changing...'), and our characters become unable to move, which is initially expected.

    However, the issue is that this notification text then remains on screen indefinitely and never disappears. We are left completely stuck and unable to resume gameplay.

    To resolve this, we are forced to close the game (either via ALT+F4 on PC or by ending the application through the Xbox menu on console).

    Upon restarting Sea of Thieves and selecting the option to 'Rejoin previous session,' we are not returned to our ongoing session. Instead, we spawn into a completely new, fresh session: we wake up in a tavern, and our ship (which was previously out at sea and laden with treasure) is found at the dock as a 'fresh spawn,' completely empty. All treasure, supplies gathered, and any voyage progress from that session are lost.

    Anyone experienced this too? Maybe this is part of the migration issues that are being resolved rn, but I'm not sure...

    I’ve had this happen before.

    I waited it out for a long time and it finally went away, but by then my crew had already disconnected and moved on.

    Huge waste of time.

  • This happened to me yesterday 12/05 AM with a ship full of Hunters Call limited voyage Festival of Fishing fish.

    First time it has ever happened to me. I presumed it was a similar issue to the infinite dives that has been reported previously ie finding servers etc

    Particularly cruel when it is a server merge as you are not 'opting in' to a change of server, can happen at any time and can have treasure onboard.

    This was before the hotfix so hopefully it does not reoccur.

    Thanks, I sent them a ticket. Even if it was somehow solved with the recent update, I want to know for sure before I set sail again. It happened now for the second time in a row, so I have every reason to believe that it will happen again next time...
