Getting reacquainted with naval

  • Hey everyone, it's me the silly person who hasn't played the game for five years again who recently asked about safer ways to do tall tales and other little side quest to unlock stuff like curses and accommodations. I have another well. This one's more of a question/asking for tips in this one I'm just asking for some tips on how to get reacquainted with getting a decent amount of hits on both on player and NPC ships this may sound but the one skill that I still decent at is ship management a.k.a. steering bailing and repairing, but I guess the saying if you don't use it, you lose it is true for me. That's with being able to get consistent shots with cannons. It's so here I am asking for tips and tricks on how to basically get to the point to where I was before. I stopped playing five years ago to where I can at least make most of my shots. My goal is basically to be able to stand my ground as funny as that sounds just in case say not so friendly player rolls up on me because right now knowing that I don't have my good naval skills like I used to. I tend to just run the other direction, but any tips and tricks on how to get better again with cannons are appreciated.

  • start out with some ghost ship voyages

less chaotic movement but still intense enough to build some naval routine

then go to skelly fleets/skelly ships

then attack player boats, you don't have to sink them, just use it as practice

One of the least productive things that players do in this game is try to be very very skilled players as casual players. Don't try to be someone else, don't try to be the best as you are learning, just get in the reps and develop the routine and style that works best for you. You can build the basics with the above but find your own style.

I've never watched a tutorial video, never tried to be anyone else, never tried to be the best or even good. I always put in the time to be effective for my goals, my interests, and my own way. You'll always be better as you than as a shadow of someone else.

Don't compare to what others achieve, just train to succeed in your own adventures. Play to your strengths and don't let your weaknesses lead you to burn out.

Everyone eventually makes gold, everyone eventually gets some commendations done, everyone has wins and losses, none of it really is that big of a deal. Lose some, win some, be nice in defeat and in victory, it all works out in the end.

Do you think Ghost Voyages are easier? Huh, I always found them much more difficult than skellie ships.

ghost ships have a pattern, a path

skelly ships can be more erratic, skelly fleets are in a high traffic area which can regularly increase the difficulty of that experience

when re-training the basic skills it's less frustrating to work the patterns and predictability, helps to create a rhythm.

Skelly ships sail wild, have cursed balls, one-ball people more, take more to sink.

Ghost ships are also easier to hit from long distances which can let people work on their angles and distance shots.

Nothing wrong with trial and error tho. Worst that is gonna happen is a sink and that's alright.

  • hey @WolfManbush I'd like to thank you again for being supportive in my journey of getting back into the game. I've played a bunch of games where I haven't played for a long time and me trying to get back in on the people in those games. Communities have been not so supportive of trying to relearn the ropes that means a lot to someone like me who let's just say I have low self-esteem in interacting with kind people helps that in a good way by improving it.

I always say this to people,

It's adventure. You're always good enough to adventure, you're always worth the effort it takes to adventure, there is always a spot for you in an adventure environment.

Books, movies, tall tales, true stories, it's always about the underdog finding their way through adventure. You're never bad at is as long as you respect and cherish the opportunity that it offers.

All you gotta do in SoT is embrace the fact that everything is gonna work out. It's not built on severe consequence, you get to respawn, you get a new boat, you get to try again. That is a beautiful thing and it's rare in life. Everybody is a piece of the whole and in that everyone has value and worth in adventure. Skill is just a thing, outcome is temporary, what lasts is how you treat yourself and how you treat others along the way. That's where you can find some peace and that's what will allow you to shine in SoT and in adventure.

You'll be alright in SoT, I don't have any doubts about that at all.
