I'm not sure where I would post this thread, so I apologize in advance. I live in the US and get good ping in every other game I play on PC, (in Overwatch 2 I average 32ms on Wi-Fi), but in SoT it's pretty rare for me to find a lobby with less than 100ms of latency. I get teleported randomly, find myself having to avoid PvP to not burden my crew or to risk losing my treasure. Not to mention some of these lobbies seem to be european or asian, and I really only speak english comfortably. Is something going on with the servers or is my account bugged? I can live with non english speaking crews, but the high ping and ping spikes are getting really annoying by now. Thanks.
Constantly placed in lobbies with high ping
Firstly, don’t join open crew, you can get matched with people all over the world. Start your own session and see what your native ping is. You can then set the crew to open if you want people to join freely. Or try any myriad of LFG options that exist, if you don’t want to play alone.
That said, SoT is a high latency game. Even people super close to the servers never see low ping like you do on games like overwatch. My ping on SoT is about twice what it is on overwatch. That’s just normal for this specific game.
You get used to it, the good thing to understand is we all have bad ping, though some significantly worse than other. Just be the person to set sail on the boat, start the session personally, and you’ll have your best possible ping.
@abjectarity I started a closed session to check what I got. I'm getting 56 average with 49 lows in latency. Much better although not perfect. Everything is immediately more smooth. Even opening chests and moving items around. The only downside seems to be that I might have to wait around for people to join in I guess. Thanks for the clear up anyway, appreciated.
