  • That’s sounds pretty normal actually. Sea of Thieves is a CPU heavy game, unlike what you might expect. CPU is usually where the bottleneck is for it.

Just find the settings that work best for your rig to not overheat. My laptop needs cursed graphics, but model detail can be on rare, 80% resolution scaling, and 720p even though the computer itself is higher. I do live in a hot climate and I don’t want to use any cooling accessories. If I lived somewhere cold I could probably get a little better settings, but my laptop isn’t my main gaming rig anyway(about 30% playtime is on laptop, sometimes more or less). It’s pretty enough even on bad settings.

Unless you’re having a different issue than heat? What is it you’re trying to achieve?

  • Yeah that sounds fairly normal for your specs. I'm on an i7/rtx 2080, game is usually around ~20-25% average cpu and gpu

  • My friends have nvidia 3050 laptop his gpu usage is 80-90 percent he is getting so much more stable fps than me I am always getting fps shutters. Wrong part in my case is changing resulation and graphics not changing my fps always 40 to 60 fps in outposts.

  • @ere3n1677 if he has a better CPU, that’s probably why. People assume you need a great graphics card for gaming more than you need a good CPU and that’s true for some games, but definitely not all of them. There are quite a few games like SoT that do better with beefy CPU than GPU.

Basically, to simplify it, your CPU does the calculations, and your GPU just does the pictures. SoT uses a lot of calculations because of its waves. The waves aren’t just pictures, they are fluid and you and your ship move with them. And if you’re trying to shoot someone on their ship, thats a lot of calculations. But it is just water, the sky is just sky, so there’s less pictures. Outposts have more pictures, which would be why things go a bit wonky there.

  • Check to make sure that your laptop isn't in some kind of power saver mode or using the integrated gpu.

Also take note that laptop or mobile cpu's are weaker than their desktop counterparts.
