Possible Potential for a Monkey Island crossover?

  • With talk of Disney crossovers once again gracing the Sea of Thieves thanks to a recent theory from the one and only Captain Falcore regarding the true identity to our hook-handed Captain of the Dark Brethren, one which I also subscribe to, one crossover has rekindled much interest for me, Monkey Island.

Over the many years Monkey Island has regaled adventurous Point-And-Click Puzzle solvers with the humorous exploits of one Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate. In June of 2021, many a keen eye had come across a rather interesting easter egg in the recently released "A Pirate's Life" tall tale, which sported a vessel in the Sea of the Damned named The Headless Monkey, formerly The Mad Monkey. This vessel had been surfaced by one Captain Kate Capsize, a former glass-bottom boat charter turned fugitive due to the antics of Guybrush Threepwood on Phatt Island. This a resulted in her pursuit of Guybrush based upon a rumor that said that both he and Elaine had chosen to honeymoon in the Sea of Thieves, a pursuit which ended in her presence in the Sea of the Damned and eventual coming to terms that revenge is not worth losing one's life over it.

With all that said, was it truly just a rumor?

During a recent stream by PhuzzyBond, he had informed me and others that Disney had entered a 5 year deal with Rare, one which still leaves us about two more years for possible surprises from them. The hook-handed Captain of the Dark Brethren aside, I believe this would be a grand chance to see the likes of Guybrush Threepwood and the fearsome Ghost Pirate LeChuck come to the Sea of Thieves, even if for a stand alone or small set of tall tales. With the new title due to release later this year, who knows, there might already have something being cooked up.

That being said, there had been a number of things I could certainly see being added should such a crossover were to occur.
    Collectors Pets:
Pyrite Parot of Petaluma: This fool's gold parrot might be keeping mum, but to those who know its history might still be able to hear it repeating "It's me, Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate!"
Three Headed Monkey: Self Explanatory, but for those who don't know, it is a running joke in the series.

    Costumes:
LeChuck: Would come in both a Ghost/Zombie Pirate and Human/regular form.
    Guybrush ThreepWood:
    Governor Elaine:

    Emotes:
Rubber Chicken with a Pulley String: Another running joke
Murray the Demonic Talking Skull: Don't let his ramblings of dark intent fool you, this chattering skull is more than willing to strike up a deal.
Voodoo Rootbeer: Serve up ghost-destroying* justice with this rootbeer filled seltzer bottle. Warning, contents are not viable for actual ghost removal.
Stan S. Stanman Special: Who could ignore such enthusiastic arm waving?
    New Playable Songs:
Pirate I was meant to be
    Monkey Island Theme

While some might see this all as silly or never going to happen, I think it could still be interesting to see something come of it. Plus, could be a great way to drive up more attention for the Monkey Island series as well.

  • I want that so much...

  • I'd pay for that. One question tho, the 5 year deal with Disney means they will have to take down the potc talltales in about 4 years?

  • btw i hope return to monkey island will be released for the xbox in the next months,

the funniest thing would be a tall tale set helping guybrush threepwood become a piratelengend in the sea of thieves

  • This was well thought out and written up

I'm fairly indifferent on it but would definitely participate to some degree.

It's awesome that the games are still coming out and that people are still passionate about the franchise.

I still remember first seeing point and click adventuring all those years ago
