Ship hijacking

  • I think it would be interesting if every player in a crew is boarded and killed a specific amount in a specific amount of time it would be interesting if they would just respawn like their ship has been sunk. While their ship would be left to the other crew it could create interesting playermade finds and maybe other crews would be able to sell or salvage materials form said ship. this would be really epic and im curious about how this idea might be expanded if its included together with captaincy.

  • @kapitein-banaan idk about this. Seems like it would reinforce running to drive-by sell and scuttle once you realize you won't shake the boarders or you are the smaller crew.

Instead of the boarding meta, we would have the running meta (10x worse than what it currently is guaranteed)

  • Not to mention server limitations. There would 7-8 ships dragging the server under instead of the 5 it can (?) do now.

I don't think it is the quantity of ships that stresses the server, it is the quantity of players. I could be wrong but I figure they would lower the maximum quantity of skeleton ships before player ships.

  • @jojo-buddy-v2 the player ships are a heavy load on the server, this is mainly due to all the calculations happening in regards to their movement on the waves.

The skeleton ships don’t have nearly as much of the wave physics applied to them and they also are selfpowered instead of wind powered which again takes way less calculations.

It is indeed the players ships that are the limiting factor for the servers not necessarily the player cap.

Nowadays they are able to limit the servers both ways (set a player and a ship cap) where originally they could only limit the amount of ships. This change was mainly put in place so that the servers could be balanced out more in terms of ship types.

After the ships it is the amount of loot some people are carrying that can bog down a server.

  • I would worry for the game stability amd how it could make sinking worse than boarding.

  • Sounds like a roundabout way of making an Alliance server to me. Just hijack ships and invite friends until you own the server.

Interesting idea, but a hard no from me.

  • @kapitein-banaan Hard pass. This would basically leave the losing player/crew stranded. Imagine what the game would feel like for them. This is a terrible idea. It takes away the ability to scuttle and get back to playing the game.

  • Think about all the new complaints from new pirates in there first day one.

They weren’t sunk, there ship was hijacked…

  • This seems like it could bring up issues not intended, generally a 2 man sloop can be powerful, but if they took a ship, that would functionally create 2 solo sloops, which i would say is more powerful than a single 2 man sloop, however, i do love the idea of having something to salvage from a ship, but i feel like supplies would be better than something you can sell, like maby a bundle of wood or a pile of fruit that consists of some percent of what they had in their barrels.
