Can i get some support ?

  • I have just made a disability feature request to the team and i would like to know if anyone out there is having the same issue than I ? Support would be welcomed.

I have an issue while playing sea of thieves. The game is too dark and it hurts my eyes, it hurts my head.

    • I know i can turn on lights in game but
      • i cannot fight with a lantern in my hands
      • it allows players to find my ship easily
      • others can turn the light off
      • even with the lights on, i still have issues
    • I tried to increase to brightness of my monitor but it doesnt solve the issue at all, i dont get more visibility
    • I tried to play in a dark pitch room closing the curtains, it helps, but the issue remains

I understand that this is for realism and i appreciate realism, but this feature is over the top in my opinion and hurts me. When there is a fire around, it gets way worse, to the point i cant look at the monitor anymore because of the pain. The screen flashes red because of the damage, everything is black, its a very bad experience.
(when i think of it, disabling the red flashing borders would be very nice too)

Pirates, back in the day, were using an eye patch to swap between obscurity and day light quickly and keep their visibility. One eye for dark areas, one eye for bright areas. Im sure you will agree that this is a great argument to nerf the obscurity feature of the game, especially since we can equip eye patches in game !

Thank you for considering my problem seriously.

  • The game is too dark and it hurts my eyes, it hurts my head.

I’ve heard of brightness causing headaches and hurtful eyes. But darkness? That new one.

Perhaps you just need to play when it is sunny and once it goes dark. Stay on the ship where you have lanterns? Idk

  • @unorthodox9256 far be it from me, or any of us, to question how you experience the game but from my own experience, I also find the darks too dark and play with the curtains closed, but yes, that does make the bright/dark contrast even more apparent. I have to turn my ship lanterns off so I can see the ocean or I'll get a headache from eyestrain. I've tried using HDR but the system default for that is somehow worse. The flashing red is definitely too intense for me - I've got one of those TVs with the backlighting which tones in with the screen so I have to turn that off or the whole wall is flashing red at me!

I don't quite understand what you mean about the eyepatch idea (I'm a bit brain foggy today) but I'm going to guess you explained all that in your support request so have an upvote and best of luck!

  • @unorthodox9256 what system are you on? afe you using dolby vision?

  • I think this issue has to do with what monitor/TV you're using, because I find that at night the game is too bright. In this picture I can still see everything quite clearly, even though it's the middle of the night.

  • the issue i ran into is that i moved my series x into my bedroom for a day and that tv has dolby vision…well apparently dolby vision makes everything darker…unplayable for me so i had to turn off dolby vision on the xbox and i was good to go…its probably a monitor issue

  • OP has specifically said this is a disability issue for them, I'm not sure how helpful the "change your monitor, fix your settings" suggestions will be, however well-intentioned.

  • im using an asus pg278qr, ive tried messing with the settings of the monitor without success. am i supposed to have dolby vision for this game ? im not sure what it is tbh
