Play with friends on same server!

  • Hello, I am sure you get this a lot, but I recently made a few friends in sea of thieves and we have to spend at least an hour to jump in on the same server. It does get annoying since some people does not have the patience. Can you please add a way to jump in on the same server. Thank you

  • @anabanana35 won't happen, if you want that, you have to be patient and work for it...

I mean if you have a way for solos to guaranteed run into two ships and 5+ players regularly, give me a weapon capable of killing more than 1 at a distance and I would happily be onboard.

Honestly they would need some sort of server for crews larger than 4 players only/fleet servers if you would want this. Same 4-6 ship max but only 2-3 ships per alliance. You would also need a server queue if there aren’t enough ships to launch a server, same as arena, to avoid any private server type cheesing. Rare would have to get it right up front this time to avoid even more alliance server garbage.

  • @kommodoreyenser with yesterdays update and 16 player cap/6 ships, it will be pretty hard to make an alliance server with just the server-hop-method...

Man it had been brought to light they use 20-25 players and spawning in individual ships coordinated by a countdown until they get a full server (usually only a handful of times is needed).

There are also players using this trash which IMO should get detected at some point as server MM manipulation and be bannable: https://www.fleetcreator.com/en/

  • @kommodoreyenser I don't think it should be banable, they kind of worked for it to get on a server together...
But trying to do this for hours is just boring and probably would make me not wanna play anymore...

I wonder, with the actual change, how much lower the highest emissary ledger numbers will be next month...

So I could create bot accounts, use an external piece of 3rd party software to get my own private server, and that would be okay with you?

Personally if that even hints at becoming the majority of gameplay at some point, that would be the end of this game for me. I would rather deal with people owning me 80% of the time than the majority of the player base just off grinding in some locked away room.

To be clear, I am not opposed to people playing in fleet servers, even using software to accomplish it quickly and easily, as long as their account gets wiped after the session. If playing in peace is the one thing that matters to them, they would have that. THEN we will see that they actually complain about not being able to cheese the gold/cosmetics, the true heart of their argument.

Cosmetics are the only thing that matter to anyone in a game like this. Honestly it has become very delicate at this point as most have been cheesed to death. Once it gets to a point, there really isn't much reason to play anymore as nothing would feel special.

  • This just ruins balance of the game. Server hop, that's your only way. I am not dealing with coordinated alliances. They are very rare and I do not want more, because they are unstoppable if they are semi-competent.
Also, alliance servers would be so much more common and that's alt text

Yeah, I mean the wording on that software site pretty much sounds like they are currently working on a way to push players to low/no pop servers that are in the process of spinning up to guarantee a quick private server. That is troubling. The whole thing currently with just showing what IP the server you currently on is not so bad as you could simply learn command line and do it yourself manually, it just takes actual intellect out of it and makes it so any potato brain could pull off an alliance server.

  • @anabanana35

For my side, it will be all gucci when you can create private server and hop in with up to 15 friends, but you wont get any rewards out of it.

If you could invite other ships to your server it's so easy to outnumber the other ships, bringing them to leave and as I learned yesterday, one could standing around on an island and deactivate any kind of server merge.

It is completly enough to play with up to 3 friends, just split your group and everyone plays in smaller groups on different servers. Don't see any problems with that.

Also the alliance system works fine how it is, you probably trust your alliance partner, but you cant be sure for 100%, and thats another interesting part of the alliance system.

Doing that with bots is a nogo, I agree
But I'm talking about people, who coordinate together to get on the same server...no problem with that

Can you tell a bot Xbox live account from a terrible or new player? If you can't I am sure there would be no way to do it on the server end.

If they want to hop into the same server using discord to coordinate clicking set sail at the same time fine. Using VPNs in an en masse attempt from the same IP geolocation, 3rd party software, or other means to force a low/no pop server scenario to make it extremely trivial is an issue.

All that does is scan your connection to the server to get the server IP and port and then you use that info to determine if you're in a server with another player, because they will be on the same IP:Port. It doesn't force creation of alliance servers in any way.

It's not detectable because it doesn't interface with the game at all. You can accomplish the same thing using the Reaper's Mark.

You missed the "private server" option which they claim is in the works. "Private Server - The place where you can set your private server (Not ready yet)"

  • @kommodoreyenser Do you know what that does? It could be presets for custom servers, which aren't ready yet because custom servers are not available to the public. Custom servers are private.

I investigated. Firstly they have a free version but accept "donations" for the app. Pretty sure Rare might have an issue with someone doing that.

Also, the private servers they are speaking of is a feature to hide your server's IP so no one else using the app can see it and join/attempt to join the SoT server you are on. Pretty much locking out the ability for someone to use the app to hunt alliance servers. It is actually active but only for groups of 4 or less unless you "donate"

Yeah, so it doesn't do anything with the game. It doesn't create private servers, I assume it just doesn't broadcast your server info to other users of the app. It doesn't prevent players from joining your server if there is a slot available through the in-game 'Set Sail'.

I don't think Rare can do anything about the donations because it isn't selling something that doesn't belong to them. I guess it's a convenience tool, but donating seems like a waste when alliance server operators just use mass set sail and the in-game reaper flags to figure out if they are together or not anyways.
