How to get money back for a game if only now I realized that the game has started to enrage
@s0ar1n Ahoy matey!
So sorry to hear you are wanting to leave us so soon! Some platforms have strict rules about playtime and refunds so you may need to read the T&Cs.

start small and work your way up
once you establish a foundation for your piracy you have a place to land when seas get rough
take on short and manageable goals and sell often to minimize losses
If everyone that got frustrated over a loss quit there wouldn't be any players left in the game. We all go through it but it never needs to be large losses of time or loot. That's a choice.
Very few people are naturally awesome at something new. Most of us stink when we start. If you dedicate and commit to crafting your sessions for personality compatibility things will get better.
The skill wall to new players is absurd, the lack of any kind of tutorial (Maiden voyage is not the best tutorial to be honest) and no matchmaking for new players has this results, tons of them leaving the game on the first 15-20 hours.
Not everyone that got frustrated quits, but a huge % (A lot more than the ones who stays) of them does and there is the big problem. This game has an old school concept, getting good demands you to invest tons of hours and on today´s gaming community just want fast food games with zero challenge, only From Software games demands skill and there are tons of videos about how to skip certain bosses or abuse certain mechanics.
Trying to make them understand that SoT is not like the fast food games they devour on 15 hours is a hard task and that is the reason why we are at this point, with 30k players counting all platforms (basing my count on steamcharts and thinking there are the same amount of players on Windows and Xbox , 10k per platform) and loosing players every month.
I was like them, and I still thinking that learning at this game is horrible and the vast majority of players doesn´t want to invest 500 hours to be a decent sailor. For example, I started with 6 friends, on the first 2 weeks everyone left the game tilted AF, just me stayed and kept playing, If this happens on most of cases, the game has a big problem, because veteran players leave for the lack of content and new players leave for the frustration
Rare should take this people on consideration IMO.

Main reason crews fall apart is scheduling. It's very difficult for people to be able to keep schedules lined up for a game like this that consumes time.
and veterans that leave just burn out in general. Thousands of hours of anything burns people out on things then it becomes more of a chore and the frustrations feel amplified.
@elci-poteh
This seems to be todays gamers problem. Games give to much information to play just to achieve.
No one wants to play endless hours to learn. They want hand holding help and guided birds to give you full answers instead of hints.
Like the days of donkey Kong country. It was only by trial and error one learns some levels hand hidden barrels to skip majority of the level itself.
But frankly. This game is very simple to learn. Cannons shoot, gold is dug up or found. Skeletons are bad and pirates divide between honor and thug
Gamers, young gamers today just want a single player pirate game.@s0ar1n
seeing the amount of time you spent in game you wont be elligable to get a refund from any of the game stores
for the microsoft store, you have to get a refund if you use the game for less then 2 hours
and for steam its less then 48 hours, however your gaming history shows that:
you have played the game for 8 days, 23 hours and 27 minutes or a total of over 215 hours.
you first played the game on the 21st of october 2021 and played the game quite stabily over the next few months...from what i can tell from your previous posts, you got sunk at a fort (which is a server wide announced event in order to get player interaction, be it friendly or hostile)
this is part of the game and will always be as such.@elci-poteh said in How to get money back for a game if only now I realized that the game has started to enrage:
Trying to make them understand that SoT is not like the fast food games they devour on 15 hours is a hard task and that is the reason why we are at this point, with 30k players counting all platforms (basing my count on steamcharts and thinking there are the same amount of players on Windows and Xbox , 10k per platform) and loosing players every month.
369,000 players just in the gold hoarder emissary ledger this month, so those numbers are not just off but way off. Steam isn't the measure for the standard, it is the newest platform and only came about halfway through the game's life so far. Xbox numbers are probably way higher than either Steam of MS Store.
If your numbers are fine and Xbox has even more players, explain me please why do we Allways meet the same players on adventure when I have MM turned off.
I match with other player to jump on the same Server, and we get It in 2-3 trys, with that amount of players It should take forever due to the huge amount of servers and is not, It takes 5 mins to get matched with your Friends and make alliances or whatever.
With that amount of players, how is possible that I can stay for 2-3 hours farming crypts without being disturbed on Xbox only servers even with emissary flag rised up and as solo slooper.
That only can means 2 Things.
-
This players just join One week per month, achieve emissary lvl 3 and leave.
-
Alliances Servers are more than I thought and there are tons and tons of players doing stuff there.
Otherwise I don't understand.
Ah, and check Twitch, a Game with 369.000 players should have on the platform like 40-60k viewers, a good day with Twitch drops they have 10k.
DBD has 60.000 players maybe 80.000 and has 35-40k viewers. How is possible that SoT with 5 times more players has 6 times less viewers?
How is possible that the "Famous" streamers and partners has only 100-200 viewers on a Game with 369k players?
-
@elci-poteh Why are you so concerned about the numbers?
If you enjoy being a pirate, then continue to set sail! Let everything else sort itself out. 😉
Also, @Musicmee has already directly addressed the issue of the thread - almost everyone else is just making assumptions as to why the OP might be feeling the way he/she feels since they didn't specify why they were unhappy. Unless the OP responds, I think this thread should probably be closed.
@elci-poteh
No drops or giveaways yesterday and Boxyfresh had over 2600 viewers. Maybe due to their average age most of the community would rather play themselves and not watch others play? Not everybody watches twitch, it's more of a kids thing. Having played thousands of hours I have never noticed bumping into the same players.
You sure you haven't got disguise gamertags enabled? Seeing Adelheid a lot?
For that reason I just counted with 10% of the total population watching Twitch, that should mean at least 30ks viewers and we know is not.
I got matched a lot vs the same crews, we have added each other to friend list and if we are on the same match we fight or do some stuff. Not matching intentionally, just got matched by low pop.
I enjoy the Game @Galactic-Geek but that doesnt Matter when we Talk about how empty servers are at least on Xbox.

This is a game where sessions last anywhere from 30 minutes to 8 hours. Only a max of ~20 players per server but usually less on any server I have been on. The game doesn’t just constantly mix and match players on each server. Only when you join (hence many joining at exact same time getting on same server is likely), when the server lifecycle is complete and it is shutting down, or when the server population is low and migrates remaining players to an existing server with an opening for a crew of their size.
Other games sessions last usually a “round” which can be 5-40 minutes long and hence make it look like it is far more populated by the constant mix of players per round that occurs.
As far as twitch, I have played this game since year 1 and could care less about watching others play it. I am sure I am not the only one who would rather play games with my free time instead of watching them. You can’t compare viewer and player numbers, their definition is literally completely opposite. This game compared to others is also way less frequent with interesting action than let’s say popular shooter games. Not many people want to stare at someone sailing for 10-20 minutes waiting for action.

They're not empty though. It only FEELS that way. It's important to note the difference.
Also, I had 4 other ships nearby while sailing yesterday - made for deft dodging and rowboat getaways to maintain my Athena loot.

Xbox only servers are an extremely limited subset of players. Depending on your region and time of play, there may only be a few of these servers active.
Most of the playerbase plays in the crossplay environment.
Could be this and we are just a few with CP off, not all console players wants to suffer against pc xD

Most dont view it as suffering
@elci-poteh
We sailed on tuesday night for 2.5 hours and didn't even see another player ship, let alone an aggressive one. Galleon.. UK, US and Canadian crew on UK crossplay server. Just lots of skellie ships..
It would be interesting to hear from someone who has played on both as to whether there is something going on with xbox only servers that makes them more aggressive or not..
I don't know if Xbox servers are less aggressive, but I'm one of those players who thinks that crossplay transforms console players into piñatas for PC players.
What I can tell you is that we play very few because we are always the same, except for a new player, we usually cross the same players a lot.
I can't give you a recent example because I've been playing arena mode for about a month, but with the launch of season 5 there was an increase in the first days and then the servers were empty again.
That is why I have told that it seems strange to me that 370k players appears in the ranking, that would mean servers full of life and constant fights, which does not happen. Maybe it is that there is a lot of alliance servers or maybe it is that this ranking is a bit fakeRemember, Xbox only servers are not the default for Xbox+controller players.
For that reason, most of the people on there are somewhat seasoned. Or, at least, seasoned enough to understand why people would choose to segregate themselves.
The translation is that Xbox only servers have 2 types of players on them....Players who think they're safer....and players who hunt those that think they're safer.

I would play more cross play if I were you, there are a lot of newer, lower skilled PC players on the servers currently, most are happy to alliance, team up etc.
Facts right here!
I have no doubts about that, but I do not play with PC players due to my bad experiences in other games with Crossplay.
M&K gives a huge advantage to users, lot of keybinds and fast movements with mouse.
Crossplay between consoles is fine for me, we are playing on the same field, but IMO playing Xbox VS PC is like race with a Bicicle against a Moto GP bike.Add to this, cluncky Azure servers and you have the perfect storm xD
... also Rare would probably not make new content to this game, if there was not a good, healthy player base (a good enough number of active players (and new players)). Im sure they have some good statistics/numbers on their servers, that is not shared to us.
And we are getting more lore related stuff, new Disney stuff, and lots of small events.
Based on that it MY opinion that the game is alive and well. But sure new pirates would be more than welcome. (We usually try to leave clearly new players alone, and at least try to disengage if we can, just as we try to leave Tall Tale ships alone. Too bad mistakes do happen, and sometimes its too late to save a sinking ship.)
Just a couple of cents on the matter,
Ghostfire
