Longer server shutdown warning

    Why do we only get 15 minutes warning when a server is going to be restarted? That barely gives time to do anything.

    Can we get at least 60 and 30 minutes warnings?
    120, 90, 60 would be great.

    Last time I was caught in the middle of doing a vault.
    Today I was caught with a lvl 4 and a lvl 3 flag on my boat while chasing some players to the edge of the map. We chased 2 more minutes, turned around and we didnt make it to the reaper to sell our flags because we were in the opposite side of the world and we were against the wind

    • Their main and support twitter gave an hour warning

    You should make notes of update days because they always take the servers offline at the same time

    @kakaroto9766 And to be fair, maintenance/updates usually happens on the same days, so you should be a little prepared for server shut down? :D

    @kakaroto9766 I have to agree with @aribalam - Rare gave fair warning of the server shutdowns and it is always from around 10am BST/GMT when they close them down.

    Would be nice for players who don't at all pay attention to their social media, for there to be a day-long chat notification (which could be toggled off, of course).

    Also, losing 2 non grade v flags is hardly a loss, really.

    I dont follow any of that social media.
    I dont follow updates or announcements

    And yeah this is a big update, but I have had server resets which didnt seem to be tied to any big change, and if there's already a warning system I do not see why the time has to be so short. It couldnt possibly be hard to add 2 extra warnings 30-60 mins from the shutdown.

    The main page of SOT when you first log in has the "what's new" section...it's surprising they haven't opted to use that section to display their own tweets about planned server maintenance and even other fun stuff like events/drops etc.

    It is odd that unless you have social media, you only get 15 minutes of warning.

    To be fair, they have been adressing the new update for a few days now, but i also understand that not every people are reading theire facebook/twitter pages. So i dont think atleast 1 hour warning for people that are in game is to much to ask for.

    As @lizalaroo mentioned: shut downs are always on the same day and in the same time.

    I would suggest for you to be more aware of what Rare have been spamming for the past week or so, instead of expecting to be held by the hand.

    With the new season's system, there will always be a shutdown at the end of the season so new content can be loaded up. So fair warning, in three months' time we will be right back here.

    There is a timer for when the Season ends, that's your 3 month warning.

    You do realise there are smaller updates and server resets in the middle of the season right?
    During last season I am certain there was 1 or maybe 2 that were not related to season changes.

    And again, maybe you and other people do, but my entire life does not revolve around SoT, I do not follow their social media nor do I keep track of their servers, server times, or exact times they will be making changes.

    This is true matey, RL gets in the way, in some way for all of us.
    But coming on to the forum and exclaiming the 15 minute window is too short, when Rare do a lot to declare reset times and shutdowns is harsh.

    You are right though - Rare could add in a longer timer, but surely you must admit that you could also check as well? you must have known the new season was coming? The Renown bar even shows how long the season has left!

    Once you get the warning I suggest you turn around and sell what you have.

    Oh most certainly I could do better to keep track of server changes, but as I said I have other priorities, and I game when I have time. And when I have time some times I feel like SoT, some times I feel like SC2, or the witcher, or dont starve, or to try a new game and it also depends how many and which of my friends are online, and I do not keep track of every update schedule of every game I play. And hey I could be wrong, but I rather doubt I am the only one like this.

    Also if their server down/reset reminder system/function is half well done, adding 1-2 more warnings would not be more difficult than adding 2 more entries to an array or something similar. Literally 2 lines of code.

    @sshteeve rare gave 0 warning unless your willing to go out of your way to look at there socials, something the vast majority of the playerbase will do. this information should show itself on the game screen when you login

    @greatfailure82 there is literally a countdown for the season end. in this instance is that not enough? Mayne think it's going to end and do a quick search to find out more.

    the longer it is the more chance it could be pushed back/changed and have it confuse everyone

    15 means it's probably gonna be correct and not confusing if it changes to people actively playing

    I do not know their specific codebase (hence why I said IF their system/codebase is half well done).

    And I am a developer and I have worked on 2 games..so uh..yeah I know what I am talking about. A function as simple as that (Show a message at certain times) ...is not complex at all in any game X).

    They already have the system that does it
    They already have a system that does it every X time.
    All they need to do is add 1-2 more times at which it does it. Even a non developer should find that easy to understand.

    While I'm generally in the loop, I can empathise. I'm not going to jump on the patronising bandwagon here. I know some people are just not clued into socials (that's why some friends ask me to ping them whenever there are Twitch Drops coming). It takes real elitism to not account for people's various situations and belittle them for it.

    To that end, I have nothing against there being a longer server notice in-game if it's possible.

    no for 2 reasons

    1, being the most blatantly obvious that your expecting people to understand that a season ending = the servers immediately come down. i dont even know if thats even right. im PL been playing for 3/4 months and i cant answer this question so i dont know how you expect other people to be able to
    2, unless this information pops up for is on a screen which your unable to bypass to play the game then its not clear enough

    Even in the BEST CASE SCENARIO, where you know the season is going to end, and you are aware of the hour its going to end.

    ...While fighting other crews or doing stuff that requires your attention its not easy to keep track of time.

    Any gamer has experienced the "Oh Ill just do this 1 more thing" and all of the suden its 6 AM and the rest of the family is starting to wake up and you are like "Wt..f when did this happen...should I even go to bed anymore or pretend I just wokeup?"

    Which in SoT can mean losing your multiple hours worth of work only because you didnt have 5-15 more minutes to make it to where you need to sell and sell all.

    One other time I remember the screen of the game blacking out not 5 seconds after I sold my last chest and voted to lower the flag. Meaning that if we were 5 minutes further away from the outpost, we would have lost a big part of the loot and flag.
