Parlay Isle! Arrrr!

  • Think Monolith Burger meets Galaxy Galleria meets Tatooine Bar. The tavern of taverns. An island where pirates can come quench their thirst, swap stories, exchange loot, fish, or whatever the pirate heart desires, without fear of retaliation (unless warranted ofcourse). It's Tortuga, but governed by the Pirate Code of Parlay (Basically this here forum, but actually in the game itself).

    If any pirate does not adhere to the Parlay code when within the region of Parlay Isle, either by attacking another player, ship or just happens to help themselves to loot not necessarily their own, their ship instantly receives a Bounty Flag for their indulgences, making them the sole focus of all the other pirates as any who happens to capture and return this flag to the Reaper's Hideout will be rewarded exceedingly handsomely for protecting the honor of the Parlay Code.

    [Update] Not sure how this would work, just spit-balling now, but what if the region of this Isle is a central space that is shared between all servers, e.g. once you enter the region of Parlay Isle (like when you enter through a portal to A Pirate's Life Tall Tale) you're transported to Parlay Isle (there is only one which is shared between all servers) and once you exit, you return to your server (or another server maybe?). That way Pirate Isle should always have its fair share of players hanging out there without burdening a single server by luring all its players away from normal gameplay.

  • The code is more what you’d guidelines than actual rules

    This is basically just a tavern just that it’s a designated PvE spot and reapers hunting emissary ships after which the reaper flag is wanted by trading companies so they’ll increase emissary if you sink a reaper.

  • A pve server within a server. Safe haven. Place to not be sunk or attacked.

  • This is a great addition to the social aspect of the game. They could introduce this alongside a set of tabletop like minigames to play ingame with other pirates. Imagine playing card games, wagering or even a drinking game which evolves into rumble and absolute chaos. Tortuga indeed!

  • Originally I was against the idea of an island like this, because giving pirates a place to hang out means they won't be out adventuring, which would make servers feel dead. With the tunnels of the damned though, server hopping is much easier now, so that is a natural solution to that issue.

    I am still against a bounty system, unless one is suggested which has little to no chance for exploit and/or trolling. I don't think that is possible though.

    Take your example: A crew shows up and completely blocks the exit. You want in or out? You have to kill them, but killing them means you get a bounty, which means they can sink you with no penalties, then just run back to the door and repeat the process.

  • Could be fun. But there simply aren’t enough ships on a server for this.
    If I’m in the mood to hunt, the fact there are ships on the server that I can’t attack and crews that are not gathering loot for me to steal… suddenly my server becomes a total dud.

    Still it could be cool otherwise.

  • @mostexpendable Definitely. For this to work, servers would have to be way more busy.

  • @cr4zyl00t3r love this idea. Loads of interaction potential between players. Imagine having an official duel between pirates with a designated shooting range on the isle. Count your steps, turn, shoot, earn reputation/renown for winning a duel.

  • I think the Arena Tavern could be a good spot for this, you can access it in adventure through the central spire but currently it takes you into an arena game, it could be good if instead it worked as a hub area where you can choose to start an arena game or just hang out with access to shops and grog etc

    Duels of this nature would be abused for leveling/boosting.
