Merchant Commodities Nerf

  • I was just wondering what everyone else thought of the value nerf. I personally don't think I will be doing them anymore because it isn't as fun and profitable as it was. I can make way more gold doing other activities and that kind of disappoints me because they are a cool feature but now my crew won't be doing it because we collectively decided to not do them anymore after the nerf.

It was too OP. At the beginning before any nerfs were added you could literally make 2 million gold in 3 hr 30 minutes. After the first nerf you could make 1.5 million gold in 3hr 30 minutes. (this is all without using the duplication glitch) I don't know what you can make now, but being able to make more than 400,000 gold every hour is pretty OP compared to every other voyage / world event in the game right now. Even the FoF when you're a grade 5 reaper only gets you like 350,000 on a GOOD day.

Nerfing commodities will mean that it probably won't get used. However keeping it like it was is not an option.

  • I think releasing cheese every update knowing it's cheese just to nerf it a week later builds resentment and negativity

should people be upset about it? I don't think so but if you give a kid candy then take it away for no reason they are gonna throw a fit so stop giving candy just to take it away lol

  • @kaijoi I haven't gotten to test, whats the new value?

  • I only tested a few crates, but didn't see much of a change to be honest. Assorted Gemstones was the most valuable, I think, it was sold for 11-12k with Grade V emissary and it still is, so...

Do you have any data on that?

  • I think I'm more surprised by the fact that this didn't come up during insider testing. Obviously making $1 mil gold in two hours is insane, but how was this not caught during testing? It's just an unfortunate situation that it was like this for a few days and then taken away (even though it's a very reasonable nerf)

  • @kaijoi Was it really that much? My crew and I must just suck at running them. I don't think we ever made that much money in 3.5 hrs. We would only sell the crates to the highest payer, going in a big circle. Maybe there was a better way? (besides glitching)

  • @daddy-sanctus that's what I was thinking too when he said that

  • @plankmaster2412 I was selling crates that used to sell for 5k for 3k. That's without the bonus

  • @kaijoi

Tbh that's not even crazy OP, if you PvP and go for high value events like the newest fort you can easily make that amount of gold in that time with some luck on your side.

  • @itz-majman

Correct in some things. PvP can absolutely yield more money than these commodities, but does that mean that commodities should still be like they were where you could make upwards of 2million gold in 3hr 30 minutes? I don't think so, PvP is supposed to be lucrative. While you COULD make 2million in terms of PvP in 30 minutes, more than likely you're only going to make a couple hundred thousand, IF YOU'RE LUCKY. The fastest that my crew ever completed the FoF this includes sailing time, fort time, loading the loot onto the boat time, sailing to reapers hideout, and selling. Our fastest time was around 55 minutes to do all that. And even then the MAXIMUM loot that you could get from the FoF (like I said in the above post) is 350,000, IF THAT.

Secondly, to do the FoF quickly you would need 4 people, however in order to do the commodities quickly you only need 2. It's actually a hinderance to have 4 because the galleon is really slow. Anyways, I don't think it's balanced to be able to make 2million gold in 3hr 30 minutes. I think PvP should always be the best way to make gold because it's so lucrative. You COULD find a PvE ship that's been stacking FotD's for the past 10 hours, or you could find a emissary grade 1 and get 1000 gold out of it.

But you can't easily make that amount of gold in that time

  • @captain-coel

    Idk.

I don't know what you can make now,

  • @daddy-sanctus

We used a couple strats to make things go as quickly as possible. First thing we did was always use the brig as our ship choice. It's faster in 6/8 of all the different wind possibilities compared to the galleon or sloop. Secondly we would always have 1 guy sell while the other bought and harpooned the cargo to make it go faster. And thirdly, 1 lap we would always sell at gold rush. For the first 2 hours we sold 8 crates at each outpost, but on the final hour during gold rush is where we made most of our cash.

We could've optimized it more by ONLY selling at gold rush and having the first 2hr 30 minutes just be collecting phases with no selling, but we didn't do that. We always sold when we reached an outpost.

  • I don't think it makes much sense to have something you can buy anywhere give you more profit than most items that you have to go find randomly or on a voyage. Consider comparing the value of one of these crates vs. something like a Captain Chest, Villainous Skull or Stronghold item; it's insane.
