Ive been thinking about ship names, Ive always thought it would be cool to have a ship name or a custom sail that costs a fortune, just a way for pirates to recongnise you, for example "you made friends with another pirate on the seas and then come across their ship another play session knowing thats them because of the unique sails or their ships name on the front of the captains quarters and the back of the ship" this could be a nice way to reward veteran players so other players know who they are. I also would like to see the name of the pirates ship that you sunk appear once you have defeated them, or if you alliance "You have sunk the Black Diamond" or "You have allianced with the Golden cannons"

names? yaa. custom sail? nah.
Ship names could have the same filter as pet names, But sails? There would be two options:
- You would have to wait 3 months for you sail to get accepted,
- The sea would be full of pp sails.
none of that 2 options sound good. But again, I would love to get ship nameplates, I even writen obout it myself a couple months ago.

There's some rather disgusting pet names that I've seen slip past that filter.
Well, talks about naming your ship have been around since launch. If I remember correctly this was already somewhat planned for the Captaincy update, long ago, that have been put to the side for now. Who knows, maybe in the upcoming season two!
And the custom sails? I think it on paper sounds super great! Instead of it being something you have to get curated. Have it implemented in a system similar to other games, where they have a tabard/shirt/banner creation system. Where all shapes/images you can choose between are decided by Rare and then you can mix and match a few of these. BUT!
While this could be cool, it takes away from how sails work currently. When you check the horizon, looking at a vessels sail, you can get a general idea of their accomplishments, depending on which sail they decide to hoist. So personally I don't see where customization sails would fit in between starter, commendation and premium sails.
But I am not against the idea. If implemented correctly it could be cool!
