Why keep gildeds so rare?

@nextgenjayp This was my third pass with the Gilded Voyages. The first year it was a great surprise, and the next two years I very much looked forward to the Gilded. Not only is it meant to be a gift for the player base, but it also draws in players during a time of year when people may be off from work or school and can play any number of games (including those acquired as gifts) during the time off.

If they release it more often than they do, it may lose it’s luster and effect.

@promotordj But if they were released consistently, wouldn't that keep players engaged more rather than once a year? Would give veteran players more things to do, after reaching PL it is a tall order to get excited about one voyage a year..

@nextgenjayp They’ve done a pretty good job at the monthly cadence of new content which drew players back every month, but if memory serves, December updates have always been a bit light on new content (I don’t exactly recall the past December updates). The Gilded has always brought players back in December. You make a good point that it draws both types of players back though (PvP and PvE players)

@promotordj IMO the rarity could be retained by just making it very expensive in doubloons. After all, there really isn't that much to spend them on anyway. Players can grind doubloons with the reaper's chest quite easily, maybe they would even light up the FOTD once in a blue moon.

Only for awhile then it would fall into the same spot as normal voyages

Scarcity makes things valuable and naturally people will make use of it when it is in high supply as to not miss out on the financial gain

take game sales for example

when games are expensive less people buy it but when it end up having a sale it becomes cheaper making people want to buy it because it is cheaper now than it was before

now why not keep it cheap all year round well because by the time the players who bought the game on sale would play it and then possibly recommend this to other people stating it is a great game and worth its value the sale would end so by the time other players come around they tend to buy the game for its full price because of recommendations and reviews

this is called customer interest and it works we've all fallen for it atleast once in our life we fall for it all the time in normal convenience stores

if the interest matches the customers desires the customer will buy and sales increase interest

just as it is with gilded voyages

people will naturally play more when gilded drops to get to the goodies the gilded voyage offers and naturally play more to complete the gilded voyages as often as possible increasing playtime and when it vanishes people will return again when it drops because of the same interest

if gilded voyages was offered all year round the gilded would drop its value and become less of an interest overtime and people wouldn't bother with them

and also having gilded voyages around all the time would severely mess up the balance in economy even further in this game

They are valuable because of their rarity

if all of the voyages and gilded then none of them are. the loot pool is already oversaturated bc people get to PL way too quickly. this would only make that faster.
