I see far too many pirate legends using the default ship sets.

  • @theoneocelotz but some of us enjoy looking "noobie" as time goes on most noobs actually rock more "colorful" ship sets. I on the other hand am max stats but I rock the Mercenary Sails (Which look white and can be deceiving from behind) Reaper Hull, which isn't that show offie I just like the contrast of white and black, then everything else is shark hunter cosmetics or previously they were bilge rat cosmetics. Plus the merchant bird figurehead which most players don't recognize.

A lot of seasoned pirates enjoy the look of the run down ship set or even run down pirate look.

Just never assume a ship is easy pickins'!

If I ever want to assume someone is new/bad at the game I just see if they have lanterns on, once I investigate I look to see if they are angling sails, "noobs" typically drive a galleon with the sails down and anchor dropped, that is another tell for spotting a noob.

As a seasoned player I would rather attack a ghost set ship than a new player because typically they are carrying somewhat decent loot (if any) maybe a captain's chest or two, maybe some villainous skulls or gems. Ghost set kids or as we "big old meanies" like to call them "Glowsticks" are typically average or just get cocky and get themselves sunk.

Merchant Alliance ship set is better. Change my mind.

    It does look pretty spiffy

  • I’m also in the camp of pirates whom shift away from the default ship set. It makes it fun to look through the scope and see what ship sets people have or prefer. It brings some nice variety to the Seas.

To expand a little, I also like encountering crews who wear unique outfits instead of the gold-standard tuck outfits.

I know both Default ships and Tuck outfits are viable play styles that some people have, but it makes it boring to encounter ship after ship of just another default ships containing a crew full of generic tuck pirates.

  • i don't ever use the Legendary shipsets ... For two reasons , Firstly : What is a Pirate Legend ? It is someone who has invested time in this game , in the beginning it took many people a year to become a Legend , later that time got very shorter because of many treasures that floats around, is found as flotsam , the big treasure heaps in fortresses and the Emmisary options...
But ... A Legend is a person that has reached level 50 in three factions...But that doesn't always mean they are all " Rambo" Pirates who can kill you by looking at you...
Many Legends just love the game and fight average , i look to myself and say i fight very , very misarable. So ,i would only make a fool of myself when dashing around in these posh Sails, hulls and so on , knowing that a toddler of age three can beat me...

The second reason is that these shipset, and some others radiate so much light that you can see me from many seamiles away , and i rather sail in peace when i'm playing solo. i rather have and keep a free choice

  • @theoneocelotz You are portraying yourself to be very delusional, don't.
some people (myself included) just simply don't care about ship cosmetics enough to waste time equipping them, there's no incentive to do so either as its only visual, why do you see this as a problem may I ask? because its really not...

also being pirate legend is anything but hard work now unlike it used to be.

  • although i have all the cosmetics, i like the default set, and use it more often than not. it just seems like too many sets are so garish.

so far as 'noob', nothing screams 'noob!' on the seas louder than that ashen set.

  • @theoneocelotz How about a no on that. There are many reasons some of us Legends use the default livery - and it isn't always about deceiving others (not that there is anything wrong with that). I for instance will not take the time to dress the ship if I'm planning on a short session when I have little time to play, usually before I go into work in the morning.

Just a lesson that you shouldn't judge a ship by its cover, expecting an easy kill or haul. Just the other night I got on with the only goal to gather Umbra's notes on Crooked Masts for the current event. So as I was solo slooping with my plain ship towards the island, I picked up a tail from a Brig that turned to pursue (also wearing the default set FYI). I was almost there when they followed so I led them on for a short while. They tried attacking but never landed a shot, failed to pull alongside as I hammered them with my own shots causing them to back off a bit - and this was while I was going with the wind in a slight cross breeze (which should have given them a significant speed advantage). They only managed to attach a harpoon once, but failed to capitalize on it. I did manage to turn around and go into the wind before I got to the Roar, and they followed for a while only to give up chase around Shipwreck Bay. Good thing for them too as I was going to lead them right to the grade 5 Reaper on the map at the hideout and let them deal with my tail. I was then able to turn back and accomplish my goal, albeit that I did have to lead them around for about 15 minutes (which was still less time than it took me to nail the landing to get the notes, LOL!).

Long story short (I know, too late already) - don't judge a book by its cover and assume that a plain ship is a noob or easy target. That brig that was after me learned that, and lucky I wasn't in the mood to go after them to teach them further lesson from that book.

  • @theoneocelotz And who might you be, to tell me how to dress my ship?

  • It's because pirate legend isnt respectable anymore, nowadays if you wear the pirate legend outfit you get bullied

  • @theoneocelotz

Many people simply use the default ship as a way to trick people into thinking they are new. There are ways to tell. New players leave their lanterns on. Any veteran players will put their lights out because it does nothing but let other players know where you are.

I personally don’t like the legend cosmetics. I love the Silver Blade cosmetics given from the insider program. I also treat every ship as a hostile ship and avoid them at all costs. I occasionally scuttle my ship if there are enemies chasing me and I have no treasure on my ship.

The basic ship livery is nothing more than a player wearing all black tucking clothing. It’s a tool to fool your enemy. Unfortunately, this tactic has been used so much that it doesn’t always work

  • Should this decision not be left entirely to player choice? If some one doesn't want to equip a specific ship set - or any ship set other than the default for that matter - then they are free to do so. You may not agree with them but ultimately, it isn't your choice. It is the choice of the individual player and every pirate legend.

  • @theoneocelotz It’s ship customisation for a reason. Let the people use what they want, if you attack a ship, you attacked a ship, regardless of their ship customisation. There is nothing wrong with wearing default ship. Further more, cosmetics don’t grant any strategical advantage in the real scheme of things.

  • What if we just like looking like a Pirate? Not an admiral.

  • Each to their own.
I personally can't sail in default sets. But why be bothered by how others play the game?

  • @theoneocelotz

Titles, Appearance, Ship Sets, Gun Skins mean absolutely nothing in this game.

Halfway through year one of this game is the only time you stayed away from "Pirate Legends" when you saw those sails in the distance because you know they meant business.

As far as Content Creation and Player Interaction for Streaming Purposes... Sometimes it's fun meeting actual newer players to the game and posing as a newer player to have some fun with them and see what they know about the game, then switching up your outfit or title to see their reaction, no harm in that..

It's sad to say the Pirate Legend title means nothing anymore. Nobody wears the outfit or title anymore maybe except for that 1%, and if they do wear it I def do not "Fear" them or "Respect" the Title or Outfit when 11 year olds are Pirate Legends now lol or people are getting that status in 1 day from Grade 5 Server Alliances.

Day 1 Eye Patches or Brave Vanguard titles to me is what I enjoy seeing the most, and being a humble person and not Toxic is what I respect the most..

As far as how your Pirate Looks or Boat Looks, I'm sinking you and stealing your loot regardless if you are a Day 1 Pirate or literally your first day on the Seas lol

    Cheers.

  • @theoneocelotz said in I see far too many pirate legends using the default ship sets.:

Give people a reason to fear or respect you.

If you're rocking the PL ship, there's like a 99.98 % chance that you're bad at the game or you just hit the PL. Noone sensible uses any of the PL stuff.

  • Let people play the game as they see fit. They paid their money sane as you. Why do u care what their ship looks like?

You can tell a competent crew from a noob crew from more than the cosmetics they put on.

  • @theoneocelotz some players just dont like the PL cosmetics. Certainly I do not.
And what's bad about posing as a noob? That's sea of darn THIEVES for ya, and thieves can be tricky.
