Last Ship Standing Mode

  • Arena takes way too long to get going for me to want to even try it anymore.

I spend more time waiting in the tavern than actually playing the game.

However i think a new game mode to breathe a little more life into it would work well. What better than a proper arena game mode?

Several ships, last surviving crew wins.
The devils shroud closes in slowly forcing encounters, shrinking the area.

Start with ample resources but not enough to last the entire fight but there are scattered barrels with ammo in.

Basically its a new take on a battle royale game mode except its totally different.
The crews life force is tied to the ship. So long as your ship doesnt sink you can respawn.

I think this would prove to be somewhat popular, Even better, enable it so even solos can participate.

4 modes too.. Sloops only, brigs only, gallys only and mixed.

  • I like the idea for this, it would add a new concept for arena.

But I do think you just got a little unlucky with the arena tavern because I'm in the tavern and in the seas within 4 minuts.

20 mins ago me and my friend won a game.

A great idea though I would love to see this added.

    Happy sailing!

  • +1

It gets rid of the winners that farm an afk galleon.

  • @stryps3071tv Admittedly...ive not tried arena in a long time now. The last 3 experiences havent been good so i avoid it now.

Its good if its gotten better though :)

  • That’s a good idea. A battle royale mode would def encourage more popular streamers to try out Sea of Thieves and potentially get it trending again. I think adding brigantine and mixed modes isn’t a good idea though. For fuller lobbies, it’s best to funnel players into solo/duo (sloop) or squad (galleon) modes. Maybe even make that specific mode FTP so that newer players are introduced to the game and more likely to spend the $40.

  • I used to be against this idea.
But the scoring system is so flawed and "exploitable" in the current Arena that I would much rather see a last ship standing mode arrive.
And yes,, the map would have to shrink over time so the match eventually ends.
And after a set amount of time with no winner??
The least wooden planks used wins!

  • @yungkrusty Main reason i suggested a “mixed mode” is because you can choose what you wanna play in with your friends and face off against other types of ships.

Ive seen duo sloops wreck gallys and other stuff and i think its cool to have the option. Let the players decide what they wanna fight in.

Of course there are other modes too such as sloop only, brig only, gally only etc.

    😁

  • @needsmokes maybe not a timer because the koolaid sea shrinking would cause a fight in it that would sink ships quickly. I don't SEA it going super long even with no timer.

  • @daringclarky yeah that would be fun, but adding more modes means less activity in each mode. takes long enough to matchmake in arena with the 2 modes we have already. I can’t imagine what 4 modes would be like.

  • @yungkrusty

The events could be on a monthly cycle, as to not favour one over the other. That would probably help now too, 1 month sloop arena, 1 month galleon.

  • You could use mechanics like cursed cannonballs , barrels and the new fire skulls to encourage players to explore the islands while trying keep their ship alive and hunt enemy players.

Cycling the ships by month would likely serve to ostracize player who play with a regular crew of a set size. Or prefer to play solo.

I would prefer Cycling gamemode, rather than ship.

With the player numbers they have (3m according to the last sot stream) and having no player experience ranking system. The arena wait times have likely been down to technical issues, Which if my last few game are anyhing to go by seem resolved.

I think they should be able to accommodate the 3 ship types, a solo mode.
And an any option for quick matches.

I like fighting larger ships, but the original arena that the insiders tried was mixed and i hear it was a balancing nightmare.

  • The goal in Arena is to earn silver, not to sink ships. A crew can't be at fault or held accountable for another crew being short-handed or AFK, and if you're not taking advantage of such crews, then I guess you're just not pirate enough, because like it or not, it is a valid and legitimate strategy. It forces you to make a decision - go for the chest in the hopes that you can turn it in before they get 1k silver, or sink them to slow them down while they're low on supplies and vulnerable to attack. Priorities...
