Game crash on start not covered elsewhere on forums/support page

  • Hello,

I'm having an issue with the game crashing on startup that is not covered elsewhere on the forums. I am playing on a Windows 10 PC. I have been playing the game on this computer with the same account without any issues until today. I do not use Trend Micro antivirus and I have read through and tried all suggested fixes at this link:

My issue is that the game consistently crashes to my home screen just after starting, when the Rare logo is up. I believe the issue is related to my microsoft account that is linked to my xbox live account. When I log out of my xbox live account and then start the game, it then progresses to the title screen where it say "press any key to continue", however it then crashes to my home screen (presumably because it is logging me in to the xbox live account). I have tried logging into windows with a local account, and the game then progresses to the point where it asks for a log in to an xbox account after which it crashes.

I have tried everything in the above sources including uninstalling and re-installing. Additionally, I have an older laptop that has Sea of Thieves on it, that does not have this issue and I am able to log in despite using the same microsoft/xbox live account.

Please let me know if there are any other suggestions for fixes.

    Thanks

  • Am having the exact same issue you described, just purchased the Xbox Games pass and although I don’t have an Xbox account linked SoT just keeps crashing on startup. Have literally tried everything that’s been suggested and nothing has even come close to working.

  • @samandir is your graphics card up to date?

  • Hello, I have the same issue since yesterday... Nothing change on my pc.

  • Hi everyone, I placed a support ticket and they got back to me with a working solution. It seems that there are a couple non-compatible apps causing the problem presently. Here is the support response that worked for me:

We are aware of the issue in which you are having and have identified the problem. A quick solution is to remove the Nahimic and Sonic Studio 3 audio apps (though these can be reinstalled again after through the windows store). So we understand if you are unwilling to try this step.

    Press the Windows button
Type Add or Remove Programs and press enter
In the Apps and Features section search for Nahimic. Then once location click the app once and select Uninstall.
Repeat the last step with Sonic Studio 3.
    Boot Sea of Thieves.

Then once complete you can re-install Nahimic and Sonic Studio 3 either through the Windows store or Asus support site.

We are also looking to release a fix in due course which would not need the removal of those apps.
