A Galleon Spawned on Top of My Sloop

  • Just what the title says. I was finishing up an interesting morning of adventure, cashing in my loot at Ancient Spire. Suddenly I heard a horrendous noise from the end of the dock. At first I thought someone had kegged my sloop. But no. A big green galleon had spawned right on top of my sloop, knocking it aside violently. I jumped aboard to check for damage, but found only one hole which I quickly patched. I didn't think to check the galleon.

The really funny thing about it was that it was a galleon I'd harassed earlier in the game. I'd stowed away on their ship and killed them all a few times before they finally got me. Luckily, there were no hard feelings. I left them a couple skulls as a peace offering, as I explained what happened. We played songs until I scuttled, wished them luck and left them to their adventures.

What a very odd way to end the night!

  • Wow! So, this was a player galleon. Guess there is no checking to see if there is a ship already occupying the spawn space. Do not recall anyone mentioning something like this before. Must be a rare chance. Do you know if the server was full?

I like how there was some skirmishes on the open sea, but in the end everyone came together to play a shanty together. Nice to read such a post with all the other posts claiming the “community is toxic” and “give me a private server because all Pirate Legends are trolls”.

This is how life is and should be on the Sea of Thieves. Thanks for sharing a happily ever after tale @Genuine-Heather!

  • @x-crowheart-x My session actually started on a sour note. I'd spent a lot of time loading up on supplies and kegs, hoping to chance upon a ship cloud in the sky. I'd dropped an Athena voyage just to have something to do in the meantime. While I was at Plunder Valley, suddenly I heard an explosion. Sure enough, some sneaky pirate in a rowboat had kegged my sloop. By the time I got back they'd dropped another keg, and it was hopeless. My sloop sank along with all my supplies (and zero loot) I'd spent so much time gathering. So I was pretty good and mad at that point. I respawned pretty close to Plunder, so I hightailed it back to the island hoping to catch the rascal who kegged me. I didn't find him, but the two rowboats (his and mine) were still there. Then I spotted an approaching galleon. Thinking it might have been my attacker(s), I climbed in a rowboat and rowed myself on an intercept course towards the galleon.

I managed to catch the galleon, believe it or not. I jumped out of the rowboat, climbed up the ladder and managed to best the entire crew. Mind you, I'm not a great PvPer, so I was feeling pretty pleased with myself. I climbed into the crow's nest looking for a keg to drop, but no luck. I figured I'd never get the anchor up before the crew respawned, so I had a seat and waited for them to get back underway. They searched for a while but never checked the crow's nest. Eventually they gave up and raised the anchor. I decided to just enjoy the ride for a while, plotting my next move. Finally someone started climbing up to the crow's nest, so I knew the jig was up. I shot him with my flintlock, and the fall finished him off. I slid down and killed the whole crew a second time.

By this time, I was sure I'd attacked the wrong crew. They didn't seem experienced, crafty or bloodthirsty enough to have kegged my sloop. But by then I was just having fun with them. They'd dropped anchor again, and when they were dead I tried to raise it. I didn't make it quite in time, and finally they got me. More power to them.

After that I continued roaming the seas, fighting skellie ships, plundering shipwrecks...just being the scavenger I am. When I docked at Ancient Spire to unload, I thought I had the seas to myself. I was mightily surprised when that same green galleon suddenly materialized right on top of my sloop. I have no idea how full the server was, but it was certainly a shock. I so wish I'd had the presence of mind to record that, or at least take a snapshot. It was crazy and a bit Douglas Adams-esque.

I'm glad the crew were good sports. :)

  • @genuine-heather Didn't we have a discussion a long time ago about you being upset when you were attacked after spawning in? (and also when shopping).

It's good to see you've embraced the darkness.......

  • @genuine-heather
It's certainly a strange thing, I think I've experienced this once only, glad they took your peace offering and no hard feelings - sounds like quite the adventure :D

  • @genuine-heather

Awesome story. It is how things should be. Yes, we can get mad when someone gets one over on us. Especially when we lose a lot of what we collected and feel we wasted time. However, if we do not give up and sail on we realize the sea has a way of washing away the bad as the wind blows us to new possibilities for fun we did not see on the horizon at the time.

Sometimes it is not about turning in the loot. Not about gaining rep or unlocking the next grade of a commendation. It is about the time spent on the sea with all the ups and downs. There are times that things do not go as planned or always our way, but when we log off we can still say it was fun and have a cool story to tell.

  • @x-crowheart-x So true!

  • Have experienced this a couple of times myself, and I believe there are a few clips of it happening out there.

Except in my cases, it was always a fresh spawned ship and crew.

  • Had that happen once. Fresh galleon spawned in ours. Theirs sank as ours was launched through the air, landing upside down and then sailing in circles. I have a couple clips of it as it sailed around upside down. The crew that came out of the bar blamed us for sinking their boat. They didn't realize theirs had spawned inside ours.
