Sloop vs galleon is unfair

  • I suggest they make different types of servers to select the experience that you desire to have, such as: pvp servers- play the game how it is originally played, pvp sloops only- only sloops allowing for only fair combat among ships, no pvp- allowing players to explore and get gold without the worry of sinking and losing hours of progress. I personally travel with my brother on a sloop and do voyages, today we were overpowered by a galleon and we both quit in frustration because we spent an hour or two collecting skulls and lost them all. I'm probably not going to play again until they make at least galleon only servers and sloop only servers, as it stands right now the pvp is unfair although the game promotes fair fighs. The game says you can't buy upgrades because they want a fair fight. Galleon vs sloop is all around unfair and abusive.

  • Nope.

  • sloops just need to flood a little faster you know its broken when you can keep something that resembles swiss cheese afloat by yourself

  • It’s already balanced, for a sloop is too easy to escape when a galleon is attacking, you can turn real fast and anchor is fast too.

You can also go against the wind so the galleon goes slower.

    Fights are balanced too

  • @deadlyrythem this has been covered many times.
Best tip to learn on a sloop that doesn't want to fight a galleon, sail into the wind. Galleon can not keep up. Then turn on the 90s music and play M.C. Hammers "Can't touch this" with the megaphone. They may hunt you down later for the song, but it makes the getaway a little more pleasurable.

The first few times you're sunk are learning experiences. We believe in you. You got this. Once you sink your first galleon, you won't mind seeing them on the horizon.⛵

  • I had a blast when this one galleon was terrorizing the server today just being plain uncooperative jerks. I ran into them and they gave me chase.. I ran into a storm (which they'll take more damage then I will).. when I looked back to see them sinking from the Kraken.. lol

The sea served some justice today.. especially since they kept killing me at the fort when all I was trying to do was get the go skellies.

  • Sloop vs Galleon is unfair

Then don't engage galleons. Keep clear, and keep your distance. Make yourself an inconvenient target for your foe.

  • @deadlyrythem Both ships have strengths, both have weaknesses. Personally I think the galleon is easier but the balance is pretty decent all things considered.

  • @deadlyrythem As others have said here, just keep at it. While I don't know enough of your sad tale, the key would be to play the strengths of the ship that you are on.

Here's my own experience when I was being chased by a galleon while I was all by my lonesome. Perhaps it may help?

I was in the wilds. Can't recall exactly what I was doing there. Probably wandering around or conducting a survey on one of the fringe islands (Black Sand Atoll was it?). Anyways, as I was sailing around, this galleon spots me and changes heading towards me. My friendly 'Ahoy' and waving was met by cannon fire. So I turned tail.

They were decent and persistent. I would try to lose them but it was taking a very long time to get any distance from them. We ended up heading to the Isle of Last Words. Fitting place for what happened next. I swing around one side of the island and positioned it between me and them. Once they committed to going around one side, I turned the other way with the wind at my back and got myself clear. They couldn't maneuver fast enough to make the same change and not run aground on the small island. They gave up after that.

Again, play to the strengths of the vessel you sail. Whether that is Sloop or Galleon or the Brigantine when it gets added down the road. But above all, keep at it.

  • You could've turned your loot in sooner - there's no rule that says you have to hold on to all of it until the voyage is complete.

  • @deadlyrythem I had a different experience. I and another in my crew (Creed of the Seas) went to a fort with the galleon, to have them sink us and we had nothing to do about it. When we tried to sail away they dropped anchor so we sunk. After that, we sailed ti the fort, as they finished loading up everything. Then a huge fight went out. They tried boarding once (with their only gunpowder barrel. We didn't sink tho) and we chased them. It lasted for around a half hour of me and my mate constantly ramming with me boarding, so they were occupied with me while he shot at us. They made it to the outpost and try to swim the skull over. But i boarded and did it for them xD. At that point they were furious at that and they stopped fleeing to sink us. Probably thinking we still had it. We didn't tho. And after constant ramming (mainly us ramming them to board) they eventually were hurt so bad they all went below... then crashed into rocks south of the outpost. We rammed one last time, dropped anchor, and saw only one plank left. We were low on planks as well, but a gallon with not planks, and more holes coming from my friend, they were toast. After i died... again... we went to ram again, but stopped when we saw the captains quarters dive below, and the ship giving a bow before disappearing below the waves. The crew tried boarding to kill us but we killed them all with no deaths. Then we recovered and sold the loot.

It all depends on the skill of the crew. And resources. And possibly if you rage quit or not.

  • @deadlyrythem it's actually easier to sink a galleon than a sloop as a sloop

  • Sometimes you get lucky and the crew isn't that good. I usually stay away from galleons thought when I am slooping it up.

Execpt for the crew size of course

That’s right but we have to consider that in all kind of battles it’s needed to bring a good amount of people, if there’s a fight and a team doesn’t bring enough people would be it’s fault, it’s like in real life, if someone wants to win he would have to recruit members, so it’s fair but yeah if somebody can’t recruit enough people there would be a disadvantage but a deserved one as it would be the price for not being able to successfully achieve the recruitment

  • @deadlyrythem

I play 95% of my sloop games, and with my buddy I can tell you that there is not a lot of galllion or sloop flowing!
good navigation, a good gunman and in front it flows!
do not forget, the base of the game is piracy! you have to know how to sink, lose and go back to sea to progress.
Crying and asking for simplicity is not in the spirit of piracy;)

  • The sight of another sloop strikes more fear in me than a galleon these days. Once you learn a few tactics, galleons are pretty easy to avoid. A sloop on the other hand is evenly matched. If they're determined, they will catch up eventually!

Personally I like the differences between the two ships. Each keep you on your toes for their own reasons.

  • I'm starting to think Rare should make a server or two for players who keep whining about SoT being too unfair or difficult.

They could have no waves and a totally calm ocean, bright rainbows everywhere, players toss bundles of flowers instead of shooting guns, swords are only soft foam noodles, kraken tentacles give hugs to players and pet their ships, megalodons just play fetch with floating items, player skip happily along instead of running, ships that accidently ram eachother do no damage and just produce kissing noises, cashing any loot gives heart shaped currency to everyone equally.

Rare could make a few of these servers for all the whiners complaining about unfair and difficult the game is. xD

  • @deadlyrythem

    Ahoy there!

As mentioned above, this is a topic which does come up once in a while. There is a thread here, which although aimed at solo sloop captains, has tips which apply to duo pirates as well.

As others have also said, with more experience, handing in rewards often, practicing different tactics, plus the superior maneuverability and into the wind sailing ability of the sloop, it's often possible to run rings around galleons.

  • Horded treasure. Failed once. Change game!

  • In a game where you have a choise to play with just 2 people you chose to do so.

It's all about choise. Are you just going to let the Galleon roll up and overpower you or are you going to run away? Well you chose the first. Bad choise if you ask me.

It's been said too many times but keep your eyes open. A galleon doesnt manifest out of nowhere it's a huge hulking ship thats really fast but is slow to start up and slow down so there's enough time to see it coming and enough time to react UNLESS you chose not to pay attention.

If it was a sloop rolling up and just killing you it'd be the same, you don't pay attention you might lose.

  • @walperr thank you for this crazy laugh! it becomes ridiculous to read the post of guys who cry that the game is too hard, not balanced etc. THANK YOU for this humor that I love!
