Bounty System

  • I would love it if they implemented a type of "Bounty" System. Your crew's bounty would go up with every voyage you successfully complete(maybe like 100 gold or more per voyage). Bounties could also increase in a larger amount with every player ship you sink( maybe something along the lines of 1000 gold?). Every outpost could have a list of the current player bounties in your server and display their last known location(last island docked). Players could then hunt these crews down and pocket the gold after successfully sinking them. It could also possibly make more players shy away from griefing knowing that repeated trolling and killing smaller crews would have some sort of consequence. Just an idea we could build on and throw around. Let me know what you think. Thank you for your time.

  • Revealing players location would be horrendous. The most exciting aspect of this game is interacting with other crews. Befriending a crew with a bounty would be almost impossible as they would assume you were coming for the bounty. The best part of this game is worrying about the interaction and randomness of discovering enemy crews friendly or otherwise. It would be very bad to reveal location

  • Befriending a crew is already almost impossible. Most crews will attack right away(and why not? there isn't any sort of consequence). Even so I see your point, maybe your bounty could only go up with players killed. Gathering information on what crews are killing the most players and where their last known location(not active location)at an outpost before a voyage would help players out.

  • @shockdoctorfox The idea of a bounty system is an interesting one which has been suggested several times however I dislike the idea of bounties going up from PvE quests.. it should only increase from PvP... Having said that, I do like the idea of encouraging PvE players to engage in healthy PvP, I made a suggestion on the forum myself to such an effect:

Several different formats for a bounty system have been suggested so I wonder if Rare will consider implementing it..

  • @muertoamigo420 It's not revealing location, it's revealing their last known location. This is majorly different. Especially if it has a reset of 10 minutes or so, so every 10 minutes it shows where the currently are, or perhaps 15 minutes, whatever is needed to balance the game, but that is very different from where they currently are. It would give you a heading, and serve little other purpose.

  • I've rarely had a problem with crews wrecking the game but it may be fun to have a bounty on crews that have taken down lots of ships that aren't doing any normal voyages. The players and their ship could be issued with the black spot which would appear in the pubs and can be seen by any other player. They could then gang up with other crews to take down the ship maybe even earning more reward if teamed with more crews. That would be very exciting for the ship being chased but also good fun doing the chasing.

  • I am all for a bounty system but only if it is a game mechanic, like a bounty vendor. You pay gold for information on the last known location of your target. I do not support player created bounties as that is easy to exploit. This I think will work best but you will need a pirate reputation meter to track how “pirate” you really are. That way their is a way to track the worst of the worst and offer the highest rewards for sinking them.

  • Its an interesting notion. Last known location would be best as the location of the last battle they won. But I dont think there is currently an issue with PvP. I think alot of PvP goes on as it is and there is no need to add anything more to it, if you engage or get engaged and win you get their loot, if they have any and thats part of the fun not knowing what you might get out of it. There is a nervous joy about having an encounter with another crew in the blue, you never know their intentions. I have had a crew come at me then just as i thought there were about to attack, they sung songs at us. I had a sloop one day go by far out, change course to intercept me then herd them scream "HELP". They were being chased by a Galleon. I lent my assistance and they gave me 2 skulls for my troubles.

  • @chombie-won I think PvP could be made healthier personally. A lot of the bad feelings towards PvP is the sense of always losing everything if you lose the fight, plus if you are a strong PvPer it probably sucks to do a good job and then find oh.. they have no loot... I think some sort of progression/exp for successfully killing could be good, and this could also be awarded to pirates who are able to DEFEND against an aggressor. There are many ways in which it could be implemented but it seems bizarre that you can spent a significant amount of time doing PvP and not have anything to say for it in a pirate game, and get no reputation/progression either.
