Fake News

  • We all hear things that may or may not be true. What rumors or facts have you heard that are just not true? I'll start off... Skull fort skull turns red when Captain appears or there's a ship there - False, red eyes are the effect of Dusk and Dawn.

False, red eyes are the effect of Dusk and Dawn.

Really? I feel like I see red flashes pretty frequently. I'm not saying it's related to the captain. Just I'm not sure it's related to the dawn/dusk.

Yep. Tested and verified for me. Dawn/dusk is what causes it. Sorry for perpetuating the myth.

Anyway - mine: Forts are the best way to grind rep. They're not, unless you can do it in under 30 minutes.

  • Here's another... If a sloop can't be sunk , they must be modding - False, they're just good at patching holes.

  • @lord-of-goats good one!

  • @namnorisdog so funny how many ppl dont believe me when i tell them it's just due to dawn and dusk. l**o .. in other fake news . playign the chest of sorrows a tune will make it not cry

  • @p0pc0rnh3mer01d I see, hmm, maybe it depends on what tune you play? Happy or sad?

  • @lord-of-goats you would see it quite often considering one in game day is only 24 minutes, so every 12 mins you would see it .. I feel like ppl dont realise how much time is passing in this game , maybe set a stopwatch

  • @namnorisdog does not matter. we have spent hours testign this theory, with all the songs. feel free to give it a shot

  • @lord-of-goats ill add to yours as well.pll who say forts are good for rep .. forts are for lower levels over lvl 40 forts are a waste of time for rep .. even if you clear and deliver in under 20 mins

  • @p0pc0rnh3mer01d good to know, keep 'em coming!

  • @namnorisdog the equipment vendor at dagger tooth . if you ask him the best thing he sells he tells you a scrambled word that unscrambles to be tetrahydrocannabinol ,, fake news cuz he aint sell none of that there l**o unless those "raretea" are just green bails ..

  • dunno bout the chest.. but ive seen it at night turn red when multiple ships are fighting at the fort.. 1 is usually green contested is red

  • headshots. a lot of people believe headshots are a thing in this game but actually do not deal any extra damage. i have tested and confirmed this myself

  • @namnorisdog best fake news yet is the over 10 hours ive looked for this underwater door at wanderers refuge .. lying vendors be lying through thier teeth

  • @p0pc0rnh3mer01d they might be refering to the legend door. the riddles and stories in game are so vague..

  • Fake News: MA voyages earn you the least amount.

Truth: MA voyages take just as long as other faction voyages and sometimes are even quicker. If you are accepting voyages asking for Golden creatures, discarding the others after receiving the cages, and collecting extra animals in the cages from the discarded
voyages, you will earn a much higher gold per hour ratio

  • @hiyall1 no its not that vague they say there is a key hidden at that outpost somehwere .. they say it opens a door underwater jsut liek at wanderers refuge .. I already know what the legend door is so its not that

  • @hiyall1 not sure this is true, I've used the eye of reach quite a bit on skeles and killed quite a few pirates with headshots, but you might be on to something. Can anyone else chime in?

  • @zanzikahn im glad they limited the amount of quests available at the outpost to stop that blatant exploit ,. (somewhat). jsut do the quests.

  • @p0pc0rnh3mer01d maybe they just wanted to give them random gibberish to say then but chose to go about it all the wrong way

  • @p0pc0rnh3mer01d Uhhhhh. Or, you know, just look at the sky.

I said I wasn't sure. I'll definitely be checking it out. I just figured it was totally random, so that you're more likely to notice it. I feel (and I hate people who say I feel with no data to back it up, so I'm having to bite my tongue as I write this), but I feel like I see a red flash every 2-3 minutes, not every 12.

Also, regarding fort rep. I'm level 42. Perhaps it changes at 50, but right now I have a spreadsheet (see? data) that categorically proves forts are better for rep if you can get them done fast. At a very basic level, hoarder rep goes like this. 1 stronghold chest ~= 2 captains ~= 4 marauders, etc. There are certainly occasional exceptions to this rule (last night we got 6 captains from 6 digs on 2 maps), but you're relying on RNG. More often that not, you're doing 5 islands for maybe 8 chests, taking around 40 minutes, which will give you the same rep as a single stronghold vault with the gold hoarders. And at a fort, you get a bunch of stuff for the other factions as well.

"But wait!", I hear you cry. "Shipwrecks and beaches do the same for me, with skulls and crates and trinkets and messages in a bottle littered like candy." Yes, yes they do. But you have to spend time exploring for those. And in the case of messages in a bottle, sailing the new islands. With the fort, all the lewts are in one place.

If you're sitting at outposts cycling quests until you get 2 maps on small islands with 7 chests each, it's still likely you'll pull mostly seafarers and you need to factor in the extra minutes you spent buying, deploying and cancelling voyages, as well as checking the map for proximity and then sailing time between islands. With a fort, you just point yourself at the skull and go. And the beauty is, you can do it during your other missions.

We can argue the toss on this all day, but unless you have some data to back it up, I'll keep grinding uncontested forts over voyages every day of the week.

  • @namnorisdog i can make a short video on testing head shots

  • @lord-of-goats i assume you are talking about fort hopping? are you taking into account the time you spend hopping servers backing in and out until you find one and the time it takes getting there and back?? my friends and I saty in the same server all day and just win every fort there .. with the spawn times I say i can get more done in each factions grinding voyages than i do on a fort .. xp barely moves on each level adn average fort is 12k gold may I ask your levels btw so I can be put at ease im not talking to someone thats 42/39/38... also guess it depends how slow you are at voyages , my crew is efficient (every person is different some ppl might not hit the x on first dig every time) . I have most items bought and over a half mill in the bank

  • Fake News: It takes forever to get somewhere upwind.

Truth: Just like with real sailing, you will arrive at your destination much quicker if you zig zag in a way to maximize your wind potential. Tip** Take bigger zigs and zags if the destination island is far away and shorter zigs and zags if the island is close by.

  • @p0pc0rnh3mer01d

Oh, god, sorry, no. Not at all. That's like the biggest waste of time ever. I mean rushing a fort that pops on the instance you're playing.

42/35/31. I focus specifically on hoarders at the moment. While your point about 40 is interesting (and I've noticed the ridiculous slowdown since 40 on GH), the amount of rep you earn per item remains unchanged - it's just the amount needed drastically increases per level. So it doesn't matter how you get the things for rep - you'll get more total rep for a quick fort on average than the same time spent voyaging. I have noticed that I'm getting more sorrow/grogs (read: one every few hours as opposed to every few days), but that started when I was level 35, and the same day the patch dropped (and is also happening to a friend who's level 20) so I had put that down to the patch, not my level.

I don't even want to think what 45 looks like, because pixels for castaways is already depressing.

  • Fake News: There is no head shots in the game.

Truth: There are no head shots against other players. Skeletons are affected by well placed(back of the head does not count) head shots. Tested and confirmed by yours truly!

  • Fake News: You get nothing for defeating the Kraken..

Truth: You get an achievement.. If someone claims you get nothing, it's probably cause they didn't defeat it. :O Or their achievement is delayed. :P

  • Fake News: Pigs cost a lot of bananas.

Truth: A fully fed pig will take 15:30 minutes to completely starve and die. Just don't stock up for future voyages like you would snakes and chickens. Tested again, by yours truly. ;)

  • @zanzikahn said in Fake News:

Fake News: You get nothing for killing the Kraken..

Pedantry: you don't kill the kraken, you defeat it. Maybe you will get treasure if they add a way to kill it?
(sorry, I know that's a little thing, but I wanted to add it :P)

edit: and pigs are on a random timer which may be less than 15 minutes. I've personally fed a crying pig, run off to get a chest from an island and it's been dead 5 minute later. I also like to put pigs next to me on the wheel, and they've needed feeding twice between islands.

  • Fake News: You need to use the Xbox Hub to add a friend in the game.

Truth: If both players use the "Make Friends" emote while standing in front of one another, an add friend pop-up will appear.

  • All PC players are cheaters.

The kraken has an underwater body. Can't see it because the water is black.

Microsoft will give you a refund if you suck at playing the game and don't like it.

All outposts will be turned into safe zones in the future.

PvE only servers will be added to the game ''soon''.

Sending players to the brig will get you banned.

Drinking grog makes you 100% more accutate at fighting.

Sailing against the wind speeds up your ship.

The pirate wheel creator is faster than creating your own custom pirate.

Trying to show other pirates you are friendly will get them to leave you alone in your sloop.

Adding 4 man sloops will make the game more enjoyable for solo players.

Creating the same topics non stop will force Rare to redesign the entire game just for you.

Saying you have seen everything the game has to offer when you never reached pirate legend.

  • @lord-of-goats Sorry you are right, you defeat the Kraken, not kill it. :P

  • Fake News: Pointing your cannons skyward, keeping your lanterns lit and playing music in the vicinity of other ships will show others you are friendly and should not be attacked. "Passive mode".

Truth: This is more or less a youtuber's "suggestion" in how one can detect another friendly player and has very little actually meaning. Not many people are aware of this "suggested" etiquette. Do not rely on suggested etiquette as it will surely get you killed. Always use observation to determine your course. Make a move, watch, make another move based on their reaction, then watch. Continue this flow always.

  • @namnorisdog There is such thing as CNN in the game now sweet

  • Fake News: If you are being harassed, scuttle your ship and you will go to another server.

Truth: Scuttling ship has yet to ever send me to another server. Last example: We took the skeleton key, hid it on an island, then scuttled our ship so the galleon crew that defeated the fort and chased us for the key think we left the game. We went back to the island got the key and still fought said galleon. We did not in any of this process change servers. Even Scuttling in other instances for other reasons, we were never moved.
