Let’s talk about the Safer Seas / High Seas divide
I know this is a heated topic, but I wanted to share my experience. I love the vibe of this game, but honestly, there's a massive wall here that I think is hurting the community. Right now, I feel like the player base is split in two, half of us just want to enjoy the game we bought in a relaxed way without being retroactively punished for it, while the other half wants to preserve the High Seas thrill they love.
I get both sides, I really do. But we have to admit forcing a specific playstyle on everyone just doesn't work in the long run. Honestly, it clearly hasn't been working, because you see tons of these types of posts every single day. If people were happy with the forced balance, we wouldn't be seeing this much pushback from the community

The Skill Gap is actually a Time Gap.
I play with my partner, and she’s not a lifelong gamer, She’s never going to be on a sweaty PvP level it’s just not happening! I recently got the game for my brother too, and he doesn’t want to get slapped around by 4 man crews he has no hope of escaping. It’s not just the big crews, either, even sloops are a nightmare if you don't have years of experience with the "janky" movement tech or elite sniper skills. We have jobs and lives we can’t put in 5 hours a day just to learn how to survive a 40-minute chase. -
The "Predator" problem.
Just yesterday, I was targeted at random with zero loot on me. I was literally followed by "sweat gods" for nearly an hour. When they finally got me, they just spawn camped me on my own ship. They even told me they do it because the "game feels dead" and it’s all that’s left for them to do. If the only action left for veterans is hunting new players who clearly aren't a threat, then something is broken, people aren't interested in being "cannon fodder" for someone else's toxic goal. -
A better vision for Safer Seas.
I think we need a "True" Safer Seas. Two things can be true, PvP is a core part of the game, BUT the game is going through a rough patch with numbers. If we could actually play Pirate Legend stuff and do all the missions in Safer Seas without the lame restrictions on gold and rep. I bet the player count would double. I’m not asking to remove anything from the High Seas, But forcing everyone into PvP just leads to people leaving the game entirely. If Safer Seas was a full experience, it wouldn't hurt the PvP crowd at all they’d still have their mode. Why be worried about us having a better experience if it doesn't affect yours? This is the part I don't get, If you’re a High Seas player who loves the risk, the combat, and the 'pirate' life, then me having a full experience in Safer Seas doesn't take a single thing away from you. You’d still have your mode, your combat, and your thrill. -
The only reason to be against a 'True' Safer Seas.
The only reason is if you need players like me to be forced into your servers just so you have someone to sink. If the only way your mode stays alive is by forcing people who don't want to fight to be your targets, then that’s not 'risk vs reward' it’s just gatekeeping. If Safer Seas was a full experience, the only people left in High Seas would be the ones who actually want to be there, which would probably make the PvP better anyway.
It’s a win-win, so why the hostility? Sea of Thieves has so much potential, but I think it’s lost its way a bit. Adding a proper way to play the full game safely wouldn't kill the game it might actually be the thing that saves it. -
It’s also just about the time spent.
When I finally get an hour to sit down with my brother or my partner after work, we just want to go on a voyage and see the sights collect treasure and fight some skeletons. When that entire hour is stolen by someone who just wants to ruin our night for fun, it doesn't make us want to try harder it just makes us go play something else. We're not asking for a handout, we just want our time to be respected. At the end of the day, I purchased this game just like everyone else. Why should my way of playing be seen as lesser or lazy? The people who love the PvP side get a whole mode (Hourglass) and the full High Seas experience with total respect from the devs. But for those of us who want the PVE side, it feels like we’re treated like second class citizens who don't deserve the full game that we also purchased. I just want the same respect for my time and my purchase that the "sweats get". Wanting to play a pirate game for the adventure and the vibes doesn't mean I should be locked out of half the content.
