Forged In Flames
Rumours are spreading like wildfire of a ritual intended to rebuild Captain Flameheart’s forces, but the sailors of the Sea of Thieves are not sitting idly by! Grand Athena’s Run Voyages have arrived to pit Pirate Legends against one another, ensuring that they’re filthy rich and ready for anything. Even the armaments available have been expanded thanks to the hard work of local weaponsmiths! Meanwhile, Stitcher Jim’s name is being cursed once again as he seemingly seeks out Flameheart alone. Will you follow in these perilous footsteps?
IN SEARCH OF EVIL
Rumours abound that Flameheart is rebuilding his power and his allies. Stitcher Jim and Sir Arthur Pendragon both seek the Skeleton Lord’s lair – so will brave pirates like yourself venture into a gauntlet of flames to find out more? The time has come to seek the truth and stop whatever’s already in motion!
This new Tall Tale begins in The Devil’s Roar and explores the aftermath of Pendragon’s fateful mistake in ‘The Seabound Soul’. The ghostly adventurer fears that the souls of his late crew have been bound to a mysterious chest. Can they still be saved? Prepare to face the heat from new and deadly traps while investigating the hidden lair of the Sea of Thieves’ fiercest foe.
STARTING THE TALL TALE
The Quest Book needed to start the ‘Heart of Fire’ Tall Tale is located in The Charred Parrot, the tavern at Morrow’s Peak Outpost in The Devil’s Roar. Why not stop by and speak to Tallulah, the tavern keeper? You’re bound to be parched anyway after sailing through this roasting region.
Once you have the Quest Book, speak to Captain Grace Morrow, the infamous protector of Morrow’s Peak and a woman who already has a bone to pick with Stitcher Jim. Then prepare for a Voyage into hot water!

A CLASH OF LEGENDS
Regular Voyage handler Duke is offering a special kind of Voyage this month: an Athena’s Run! This is only available to Pirate Legends, pointing them to Thieves’ Haven and its surrounding islands to seek buried treasure. Not just any loot will satisfy a Legend, of course, so the Pirate Lord has sent forth some new, special riches for which the Mysterious Stranger in the tavern will pay handsomely.
Expect crews to clash as Legends descend on the fated island, but will they work together or against each other? Even if you’re not a Pirate Legend yourself, you can still crew up with one to take on this Voyage, or ambush one and prove that there’s more to pirating than a fancy title…
STARTING AN ATHENA’S RUN
To take on an Athena’s Run, seek out Duke in any tavern. He’ll only sell them to Pirate Legends, and there’s a Doubloon cost attached. But these Voyages will be available indefinitely, so with enough Doubloons you can earn plenty of Athena’s Treasures – and you don’t have to be a Legend to cash them in with the Mysterious Stranger!
Completing five Athena’s Runs will earn you a Commendation and access to the special all-in-one Legendary Treasure Seeker outfit. This can only be purchased by Pirate Legends, and marks the debut of a brand new cosmetic type to be expanded upon in future updates.
Keeping things sporting for wealthy pirates with their eyes on bigger prizes, the Pirate Lord urges everyone to seek out new Athena’s Treasures! These beauties are worth plenty of gold, and Athena’s Fortune reputation too.
Stay alert for shiny Chalices of Ancient Fortune, eerie Crates of Legendary Voyages, explosive Kegs of Ancient Black Powder and other treasures as you sail the seas. Take on Athena’s Run Voyages this month for your best shot at unearthing one. Commendations and Ghost ship cosmetics can be unlocked by cashing in enough of each treasure type!
Athena's Treasure Rewards
When two cannonballs fall in love and get married, they’re connected by an unbreakable chain. This also makes them brilliant at wrapping around masts, colliding with capstans and generally wrecking weak spots on ships!
Though chainshot isn’t as good at punching holes in hulls as regular cannonballs, it’s great for destroying a mast, capstan or wheel in one shot. Use it to ensure that your next victim can’t escape, or that a likely aggressor has a tough time pursuing you.
Throwing things that explode seems to have caught on in pirate society, with the weaponsmiths now crafting Blunderbombs that detonate with a forceful impact! Operating like a blend of blunderbuss and firebomb, these devices can give mobs of enemies a real headache.
As well as inflicting damage, Blunderbombs are great at knocking back foes, so consider them as a solid tactical option if you’re being pursued by savage skellies or just trying to keep other pirates at bay. Never run out of new ways to cause chaos!
