  • Yes if they want to promote drinking in the game might as well promote smoking

  • I would buy a pipe instantly!

We all know what really is in this tea crates, don't we?

  • Lol yeeee

  • @ipremonitionz They have said before they need to be careful when adding this type of stuff, because it could effect the Age rating

    -Captain Swag Pants (RitchieSH)

  • Thats fine lol M is good with me i wany a pipe

Game with alcohol abuse, violence, guns and with a focus on stealing from other players.
adding tabacco and substance abuse might have pushed it to ESRB M (17+).

  • @hoppentosse it depends on how it works... for instance.. just having a pipe to smoke with no effect is rather pointless, and kind of a waste of the developers time at this current state with people demanding more features... If they add it so it has effects to it and more of a purpose, its a whole different story. Because if it looks like you are rewarding players for drinking and smoking, it can completely change the perspective on it..

Also online interactions, like the killing and robbing other players isnt rated by the ESRB. They cant control online interactions and how a player chooses to play

    EDIT:

@Sir-Rhavi : Game with alcohol abuse, violence, guns and with a focus on stealing from other players.

    This.

@sir-rhavi smoking a pipe is no substance abuse, it is what tobacco is made for :). But if this is a matter, give us "e-pipes". :)=)

Anything that goes on fire and in your mouth is considered substance abuse by the ESRB.

  • 100% yes! I’ve been calling for this! lawd please

  • @hoppentosse reminds me of a viral music video that came out recently. . .

@iPremonitionZ But yes, this would be awesome.

  • There is drinking so why not give us pipes. People will whine about it but pirates dont care yarrr!

  • Something tells me they had pipes but got rid of them.

There are a few concepts of pipes in the artbook, same way there are about drinking mugs, but the fact they never made it into game suggests they either had to remove them because of an age rating thing or that they never had the time to finish the work and since they added nothing to the game, decided not to put the resources into it.

  • @ipremonitionz I would love it but that will not happen, tobacco is a very delicate matter. this game is PEGI12

Why do you think there are no tobacco boxes? It is what pirates did most contraband.

  • Do you not think it's the cartoon nature of the game that makes the drinking and other violence ok? It is set at ESRB T - Crude humour, use of alcohol, violence

Also - drinking is waaaay more socially accepted across the globe than smoking is (by and large), which is why smoking would push the ratings up I reckon.

From a game point of view as well the drinking aspect has at least some impact on the game, but other than a coughing fit or reducing run speed for a spell I cannot see what smoking would bring to the game.

Finally, personally as a father, I would allow my girls to partake in alcohol consumption when they reach a suitable age (See legal limit) within reason, but I would never want either of them to smoke.. Seeing it in game would only promote it surely as it would be reinforced by the enjoyment they have of playing the game?

  • I do find it crazy, as others have pointed out, that robbing, in-prisioning, using guns, drinking grog, blowing up anything that moves with gunpowder and canons, stalking and all sorts of vile verbal abuse over mics is perfectly acceptable - yet a historically accurate (literally everyone smoked) immersive object - the pipe - would tip the game over the edge.

Are the more vulnerable minds that play this game going to start doing all of the above IRL? Perhaps, the tiniest minority - although that’s massively doubtful.

But, given the choice, I’d rather my kids smoked - than became murderous, thieving, alcoholic, gun wielding maniacs!

I guess the issue would be that they might become all of the above. But if that happens - a little bit of a puff isn’t going to make a difference!

I find the kids today are so well educated on the effects of smoking - they’re not that interested.

Just because smoking is in the game doesn’t mean that will be the thing, out of all the “bad” things in the game mentioned, they choose to do IRL.

The overwhelming vast majority won’t do any of it.

Although getting drunk and puking in a bucket will probably happen to most ;)

  • @ser-swag-pants Totally agree. Pipes should have some kind of use. Smoking just because it looks kinda cool and funny is pointless. In case of drinking one can use the vomit in fights, so if there were pipes one should at least be able to do smoke signals... though I don't have a good idea how this should be helpful on the seas

Why does it have to be tobacco? There are plenty of other things one can smoke ;)

And laws all over the world are slowly becoming a lot more relaxed on this issue.

I mean Gandalf smokes it! Can’t be all bad ;)

What about, if you smoke the pipe right beforehand, you could throw the embers onto the enemy pirate to give them an interface screw? Secret super combo: Puke + Embers = Human Candle?

  • I think that if a teen plays the game and sees a pipe, they probably won't start smoking pipe. Although I agree that glorification of such things should be limited. Since the drinking of grog is already in the game, I wouldn't have any objections to adding a pipe as a cosmetic item. As some said here already there's concept art available in the artbook or in the Tales of the Sea of Thieves book which looks quite nice. If they did add it, I'd say just as a normal clothing item no special use of effect.

Even though I don't smoke and have no intention to, pipes are somewhat fascinating item to see and have a certain charm to me. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if it's not added though :)

My personal view on smoking and drinking is that they both belong to the softdrugs category. From that category alcohol is the most socially accepted, but in my opinion also the drug that makes some people obnoxious to others with sidesteps to aggression. To each their own, do what you want and like as long as you stay respectful to others.

  • @ipremonitionz If they add pipes Australia will probably completely ban the game. We have a bad track record for letting everything bother us.

  • @hoppentosse said in i want a pipe i can smoke:

@ser-swag-pants ... so killing, robbing, wantonly imprisoned finds higher acceptance in society than smoking a pipe... ? Not to mention bad hair and clothing... mwuhahaha.

You'd be surprised what all you can get away with using cartoon violence. Just look at classic L****y tunes.

  • A lot of dedicated pipe smokers get to the point where just having the pipe in their mouth is enough. You don't necessarily have to light it.

  • In gameplay terms, one could use a pipe to reveal additional clues. Like the instruments and lanterns in the current GH voyages.

Native Americans used a pipe to formalize a friendly relation.
My pirate wants to share a peace pipe with a mermaid.
Could be useful for the upcoming Hungering Deep.

  • Tobaccy-o, tobaccy-o,
The sailor loves his baccy-o, so early in the mornin' the sailor likes his baccy-o.

  • if they add smoking they'll have to add taxes and a health care system besides fruit

Cartoon logic my good spaceman. Cartoon logic.

Exhibit A: A barrel nice and toasty over an open fire. (http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/lizardspider/screenshot/8901820)

Exhibit B: All crates stay exactly where you leave them. EXACTLY (http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/lizardspider/screenshot/8901818)

We don't need no stinking healthcare for smokers. God knows the stuff will work underwater, and might even help you breathe longer.

  • id like every1 who wants this to tell people to upvote n maybe the devs will see us
