@wolfmanbush I'm not for the idea of chase guns alone, and especially not ones that fire specials. But wouldn't a centered stern gun help balance against off-centered chase guns as well as brigs at plaid speed?
I think if they either bring brig speed against wind down or sloops speed up against wind it them opens up for the fun potential
The issue with the brig v sloop now is that they are so fast that slowing them down doesn't even really matter.
As it exists now and as it has long existed a sloop can run brigs into islands, they waste player resources with spam boarding in the moment, the sloop takes off into the wind, and brigs still catch up even after being outplayed.
This largely makes it pointless to fight brigs or run from brigs as a sloop if they are highly aggressive (many are) brigs with even just a bit of experience on board.
It's a boat that rewards poor performance and imo that needs to be addressed first. If sloops or galleons play as many aggressive brigs do they either sink or they will never catch up, that should be the same for brigs, they shouldn't be able to just spam board nonstop, hit every island along the way, get outplayed, and still just zoom up on sloops.
Brigs entirely rely on the highly aggressive speed in every direction strat and the fact that it works no matter how the crew performs is just poor design imo.
Sloops have improved significantly post hg because they had to, they had to improve at naval and capitalizing and decision making in combat.
Brigs haven't had to and it still shows, it's all about speed. Even now after hg anyone with experience can still run most of these brigs into islands, they run into islands all the time because their entire strat is that speed.
"mess up until it works" should not be a viable combat strat lol
