How to upgrade your pirate without it being vertical gameplay

  • The fact that you can only change your cosmetics on your character and ship gets kinda boring and I think it would be cool if you could really change up gameplay by being able to increase ONE stat on your character.

    It could go like this

    • you can give your pirate +25 health
*you can give your pirate +10 damage per hit( not really sure how this would work with the blunder buss hehe)
    • you could give your pirate extra speed
    • you could give your pirate a 2X's gold boost
    • you could give your pirate a VERY LITTLE health regenerater
    • you could even make your character have a tiny bit more of an aim assist to increase your aim

There would probably be many more upgrades to go along with this but I think this would change up the gameplay quite a bit and would be really fun.

  • Very bad idea. The beauty of this game is that everyone is on equal footing; not only are your ideas unbalanced (some of them are outright terrible ideas for obvious reasons, namely increased damage or aim assist)

This idea would very much be balanced by the fact that everyone would have to choose one of these option from the start, and I'm not a game developer this list was an example so I wouldnt know what would be balanced and what wouldnt be.

That's not balanced, because other players have no way to tell which "upgrade" you picked. If i shoot someone with pistol and sniper, that's 120 damage; how would I know if someone picked +25 health, or if one or both of my bullets just didn't register (which happens very frequently in this game)?

Sounds like you just dreamed up a list of things you want the option to buff, because those things would all solve a perceived disadvantage that you think you have skill-wise.

No 80 damage(from EOR) + 50 damage (from pistol) =130 damage and that would take someone out if they had a +25 health upgrade.

because those things would all solve a perceived disadvantage that you think you have skill-wise.

And I dont know what you mean by this

    Wrong. EoR is 70%.

How would this make combat any more interesting or less boring? It wouldn't. The more options you have the less choices you have.

Take any game in the past with lots of options for character load outs, what always ends up happening is where meta's develop and cement the game into 2 or 3 different play styles.

Eventually the playerbase would learn which are the best load outs and would keep using those. Now this is usually where players thing "well if one load out is too strong, then we can either nerf it or create something to counter it". The problem with that is if it gets nerfed then nothing changed, the player base will just move to the next load out which is the king of the hill and use that. The option to add a counter doesn't work because that basically means to beat that load out you would HAVE to play the counter load out.

See where I'm going with this?

Having more options in the game doesn't allow give your more choices for your playstyle, its the complete opposite, it forces you into play styles you don't even want to play just because someone is doing Playstyle A you have to use Playstyle C.

The beauty of Sea of Thieves is that you can literally use whatever play style you want and it all works against all the other ones. Blunder is good for close quarters but isn't 100%, especially if you end up in the water, sniper can't be hipped fired and the reload is slightly longer then most guns, pistol can be hipped fired and the reload is the shortest of the 2.

What they should do is just fixed combat completely. Combat is in a good spot right now but that doesn't mean its good. Its like a kid playing with blocks and ended up building something that is standing up right. Its standing but it shouldn't be standing.

Sorry broski, ideas like these are bad.

The less combat options you have the more play styles you actually have available to choose and play.

No it wouldn't be balanced... 2x gold, speed, very little health regen versus 10 damage, 25 health and not to mention aim assist... really? Do you get how PvP meta's work? There will be one to rule them all! If you don't pick it... you are going to not be equal, but at a disadvantage. The premise of the game, all pirates are equals...

  • @minegamer-1016 this unfortunately not the best idea. all pirates are equal. that is a corner stone to this game.
