How would this make combat any more interesting or less boring? It wouldn't. The more options you have the less choices you have.
Take any game in the past with lots of options for character load outs, what always ends up happening is where meta's develop and cement the game into 2 or 3 different play styles.
Eventually the playerbase would learn which are the best load outs and would keep using those. Now this is usually where players thing "well if one load out is too strong, then we can either nerf it or create something to counter it". The problem with that is if it gets nerfed then nothing changed, the player base will just move to the next load out which is the king of the hill and use that. The option to add a counter doesn't work because that basically means to beat that load out you would HAVE to play the counter load out.
See where I'm going with this?
Having more options in the game doesn't allow give your more choices for your playstyle, its the complete opposite, it forces you into play styles you don't even want to play just because someone is doing Playstyle A you have to use Playstyle C.
The beauty of Sea of Thieves is that you can literally use whatever play style you want and it all works against all the other ones. Blunder is good for close quarters but isn't 100%, especially if you end up in the water, sniper can't be hipped fired and the reload is slightly longer then most guns, pistol can be hipped fired and the reload is the shortest of the 2.
What they should do is just fixed combat completely. Combat is in a good spot right now but that doesn't mean its good. Its like a kid playing with blocks and ended up building something that is standing up right. Its standing but it shouldn't be standing.
Sorry broski, ideas like these are bad.
The less combat options you have the more play styles you actually have available to choose and play.
