@archaell said in Fort Vault loot distribution via lantern system:
@galactic-geek I could if I weren't in the middle of Europe with words having no meaning to the neighbors. The language barrier makes splitting the loot up more difficult and this suggestion could be easily added to the chat wheel to help with that.
Well, the words are already there within the quick chat wheel:
"I'm moving the loot."
"I'm dropping the loot."
"Take this off me."
The diplomacy... it needs help when there are no laws to protect the diplomats. Imagine that your pirate could get deleted if you betrayed an Alliance - then the diplomacy could actually work! Backstabbers would feel what PvE players feel :3
This would be a bad idea, as it forces players into a certain playstyle that would inherently make the game less fun. Imagine playing for over a year, unlocking all kinds of exclusive cosmetics, only to have a crewmate betray the alliance and have your pirate deleted as a result.
Any additional second spent on the Fort after it's completed increases the chance of the positive social interaction failing and becoming negative social interaction of betrayal. People are weak and know that so they don't even attempt positive interactions and choose better safe than sorry.
In my experience, honoring an alliance is 1 of the easiest things to do because once you're in 1, honoring it literally requires no more action on your part. It's those pirates that get need said action, or who get bored, who don't care, or who don't see the long-term benefits that shatter alliances. Even during the attempted coup, the crew may still brig them and salvage the alliance (though, at that point, they know that they are not dealing with a very stable crew).
Tools like the one mentioned here are needed for the concept of "are their friendly or not" to work, because right now they want to sink you 95% of time and you can't even enjoy the other 5% beause at least one person in your crew decides to sink them instead and the diplomatic mission is failed.
See above; a tool will never truly be able to interpret One's intention. A person, however, may be able to intuit their intent.
More tools for non-hostile interactions are needed in these hostile seas to balance the odds.
As I've said, the tools are already there: instruments, grog, speaking trumpet, quick chat wheel, loot...
It's not the tools that are needed, but the actions of an honorable sailor - a peace offering, or a show of non-threatening nature (such as lanterns lit and cannons fully raised), for example. A few kind words never hurt either.
