"Safe Waters Outpost"

  • A request of mine:

Yes i know this is a pirate game, yes there should be more PVP experiences, but could we have at least one "main" outpost be a "safe water" outpost, where you can get to safely instead of pulling up and having people ambush you before you can carry in your treasure. We came back into harbor with 6 chests with a 4 man crew, so of course, each of us grabbed a chest and when we got on the beach and because you can hide very well in bushes and your name not be present over your head, we all got ambushed and killed. Im not asking every outpost to be non-hostile. But i would love a "friendly" one where you know everyone has good intentions and the Tavern is full of drunks in good spirits. It still could be a far voyage for some to get to this "safe" outpost, which could add to the riskiness of choosing to sail to it, which i think would be awesome.

Just a proximity around the island where being able to wound others could be turned off while your there.

  • Rare studios has already said that there will not be any safe-zone in the game. Primarly because as you said, it's a Pirate game. So, the game will be as realistic as possible in that sense.

The game it's also been developed primarily for playing in team. It facilitates the teams who search new adventures, and by doing that, they must be careful to all the possible problems, enemy pirates included.

By acquiring experience, you will not make the same mistakes. And I can assure you that the game will be more more fun. :)

  • @rayvegaxs A mentioned in previous posts. A Newbie starter outpost with NPC protection would work. Nothing to put a new player off than waiting over 30mins before they safely dock or until the griefers get bored.

Or getting killed by idiots every time they respawn...

Yes its a pirate game, but let new players at least get a foothold in the game for an hour....

  • if there were players there, there would of been a ship. With your crew with a huge loot pull should of used spyglass and checked the port before docking. My crew and I ALWAYS spyglass EVERY single island and port we go into. if there is a ship or movement at the ports, we find a new heading and go somewhere else. I hope this tips helps. Keep your eyes open and stay aware. you will never get genked once you and a crew and learn to spot. it helps alot.

  • @j3r8z I know that, you know that but a new player is not going want to sit doing nothing for an hour waiting for a ship to leave when he starts playing.....let them at least be able to do something when the game loads for them.

  • @doxthafox I think its a good idea because in the history of pirates they were pirate havens like Barataria Bay, Port Royal, and Tortuga. Places where there was a sort of truce and where pirates could repair - restock and spend their gold. For me you could still attack the others but breaking the rules in those havens could involve a bounty on the crew that doesnt respect the rules of peace. ye scurvy daawg

  • The long term player retention will suffer if there is a multitude of groups griefing at islands rather than exploring. The game will be no fun to new players if they are constantly getting trolled by big groups who think this sort of thing is fun.

  • @bulletbill153 If...and IF they do put a safe "ring" around one island people will still camp it. and if they do make a "safe" island then players should NOT be able to turn in gold there. They could just farm gold and run to the safe circle and make it unfair.

  • @j3r8z I guess I am just thinking of a starter 'tutorial' outpost...that cant be returned to once you leave it......

  • I 100% disagree with this thread.

  • sorry guys where I can find people looking for someone for the crew are new

  • @groundrat471570 https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/category/3/community-the-shipmates-quarters has lots of posts looking for crew..

  • I like the idea of a safe port where newbies can start out. There is a surprising amount of mechanics to get used to. However, I like the idea of having to cache in your gold somewhere unsafe. I always sail solo so sneaking onto a ship while the crew is away can often be my only chance to "Pirate" some gold in a more thrilling way.

  • @bulletbill153 To me that is just a random waste of space on the map. I don't mean to sound mean but there is no tutorial. you kinda just learn it. just like real life, if your drunk on grog and get shot in the back by a pirate player...that's how it goes. i just don't see the benefit of having a useless protected island but to stand around and do nothing.

  • I would also like to see a safe harbor, but for mini games and interacting with other players and possibly making a crew. I wouldn't want the merchants there so that players can safely turn in chests because getting the chest to the merchant should be part of the risk/fun in the game.
But a safe harbor, for mini games, and maybe even shopping and just to hang out with other players would be nice.

  • Kind of curious, why would you wait for an hour for someone to leave an outpost instead of just going to another outpost?

  • @j3r8z Not always certain. I have seen people sink their ship to surprise you at the outpost and steal all gold.

  • @tombie Then you look for the mermaid. there is ALWAYS a sign that players are there. always.

  • @j3r8z The mermaid is pretty hard to spot when it is not your own. As it got no smoke. Do you normally circle a island twice just to spot a mermaid?

  • @tombie The point is, dont just come thundering into to turn a chest in. scope it out. it helps immensely.

  • @j3r8z I get it, and trust me it wasnt fun at all to spend two hours of voyages to have all your loot taken from you.

This particular instance was a very large and tall island and apparently had two ports, one with nothing on the end, which we didnt know, and the other where apparently the enemy ship was near the merchants. We didnt see the ship at all from the direction we came in. I mean we even had an instance of going to an outpost turning in our treasure and just a random ship coming by and sinking our ship just to do it and consequently had to spawn on a totally random island again. Its not the end of the world and yeah using the spyglass to make sure everything is clear before we go in is not a bad option, and one i will use from now on! √

I didnt see one little island on the huge map that we have in the beta as a "wasted space" as mentioned above. And wasnt trying to get the game to hold my hand at all, my bad :/ From now on i will just assume anyone you see out in the world is out to get you .

  • What hapanned to you and your crew is so pirate style!! Lol!! Very funny! This is what this game is about, being tricky, not trustable, treacherous. You can do the same if you want! Yesterday i sank two small boats like mine just for fun, my fun for sure! I got sunk two! This is cool man. The psyglass tip above is what you should do. Nevertheless, i’d like a safe island where the only purpose is meeting people and form crew insede the game. Maybe get drunk together and stuff.

  • @doxthafox I am for, but an outpost, with NO place to sell the coffers.

  • @kim-rod1984 I agree.

Maybe with a larger map and more populated, the problem of having some people there and some out in the world wouldn't feel as empty. I do understand the fear of having a safe haven with 3 or so crews just playing music on the beach could result in the seas being empty for those wanting to destroy others. (which at the max could be 12 people/3-4 person crews) and apparently there are only 16 people per server? Which i wouldn't want to happen. The world would feel empty. Maybe we only need more NPC's running about and hanging out in the tavern with us.

  • They could do some easy things:

    • Reputation of being a pirate murderer gives you a modifier for turning in items, the more evil you are, the less the certain guilds want to do business with you. (and perhaps a new one that DOES...)
    • Players of disrepute will be held in the afterlife longer.. annoyingly long.. like perhaps for every player they killed in an outpost this session, they stay one more duration. This way when you die to them, you respawn and go hunt them down.
    • Players of so many outpost kills "lately" who die, will be respawned far on the outside of the map, essentially hindering them from their plan.

These things don't take much coding, unlike NPC patrols, and allows them to still play like they want, but with some.. penalty for dastardly deeds.

I like the anticipation of approaching an outpost, not knowing if another vessel is there.

This game allows people Solo play, but it should not be built around it.

Having the crew stick together to bring chests, drop them at the sight of danger and engage is thrilling.. and should not be taken away.

  • I completely agree. Yes, it's a pirate game... But even pirates had camps and islands that were safe havens where there was a truce of sorts. New people will not want to play if they are constantly griefed everywhere.

  • It's up to us as a community to develop certain ports as places people go to socialize (save Haven) everyone's saying that these ports like Tortuga were safe havens. Which for all intensive purposes they were places that were safe-ish but people were still killed in cold cold-blood. For anything from valuable items the Pirates were flashing about two arguments over petty issues. It may have been safer, but there was by no means a strict law for not harm each other because as everyone else is saying that's not the pirate way. Over time places will become safer, I for one have attacked and downed galleons with my crew that were clearly picking on a 2 man crew. I could tell from game chat that they were the aggressors... The community needs to have each other's back. I've made an Xbox club for just such players. All players who aren't complete a***s are welcome to join. It's called "The Super Best Mateys Club" just started but I want a positive place for players to be able to meet up with other people who want to not only crew up but team up with other crews to take on strongholds and forts as well as the kraken if it shows up. I'm not going to check any responses so haters go ahead and hate, those that like the idea feel free to search and join.

  • This has been addressed too many times but here we go again:

-Keep an eye out for ships at outposts
-look for mermaids at outposts (this means the ship is gone but players are there)
-Send one person to scout the island maybe with a cheap chest to bait campers
-If there are camper; fight or flee to another outpost

There is one outpost for every ship on the server so it is nearly impossible for every outpost to be occupied. Outpost camping is a very inefficient way to make money. The other people may have just dropped off chests and saw you approaching and took the opportunity.

  • This is the same as asking for safe zones and should go there.
That said ive played another 8 hours today to go along with all my other play time. From solo to 3 man galleon and again today not one time was i ambushed at a outpost, unable to avoid pvp, get griefed or spawn camped.
In fact on our last 2 man mission i needed to log to rest my leg and we said screw it lets sail into a port with players. Yup they attacked us and hit a powder keg ( oops) and we sank.
5 chest floated up and we managed to take all 5 one by one to turn in with no problems. ....then we killed them and logged.
So even when we begged to get griefed we still got our chests turned in AND that combat could have EASILY be avoided but i needed to go asap.
Leave game how it is and learn situational awareness.

This is so true. Ive seen it happen in and kill several games. The players who are bad beg for safe zones then get the safe zone then all sit in them because they are terrified to leave them.
The players wanting to fight learn half the players are all in one spot and go to where they can find a fight and camp the safe zones.
Then safe zoners complain they need BIGGER safe zones and the circle just continues until the game dies.

    Definitely share this in there!

  • Why is it assumed the enemy crew was camping?

They could've been there to turn in treasure, then seen the other ship coming in and decided they wanted their treasure too, that's not camping

Happened to me and my crew last weekend, had just turned in our haul when we saw another ship foolishly coming to the outpost we were at, so we waited, killed them and cashed in their treasure, then we were off on our merry way

  • @doxthafox No

  • or just spawn you away from other players. i got to my ship to find someone already waiting to shoot me. ran straight to it so wasnt wasting time etc. shirt sesh sobdidnt get supplies or mission. then tobtop it my controller disconnected, this is a new issue in this test and i have sent a report.

  • @lumpaywk report on disconnecting not the other players lol
