Bilge Rats?!

  • Who are they?! What will they bring to our game?!

I've been discussing with some friends in our private group, some people think they be a new faction, some think they'll be mercenaries.

Me, I think they will be a small group dedicated to a new activity.

    What activity could that be?
Well, Rare talked long ago about a faction related to fishing.

    Why fishing and why now?

    • This new DLC is all related with the water, the life on the water.

    • The home of this new scenario is based on Shark Bait Cove, and what was Shark Bait Cove, a fishermen Islands.

    • We can see all the fishing equipment around the shores, the fish remains, the worship to the "Good Shark".

    • The lore around this island, seems to tell us a story about ancient fishermen who couldn't do their activities because of the "Bad Sharks Hunting them. So they performed "rituals" to summon the good one and made it offers to let them fish quitely.

    • The new Main NPC, Merrick. He seems to be part of the Bilge Rats too.
Who does he seems to be? Due to the trailer he seems to be one sort of a Merchant. (Maybe one not allowing to give his belongings to the "Good Shark" and that's why he ended up without a ship, all wrecked with his stuff on that island? And he just don't want to talk about sharks at all.) And during that trailer we saw a new kind of wildlife too, the crab (could this means that will be one of the new requested items of their new activity?)

    • Rare said this DLC would bring a new way on interact with the world and other players.

Let's see how things are/could be:

    • Since this last patch our seas are plenty of Hungering Sharks (Could those be the "Bad Sharks" ancient ones told us about on their stories?)

    • If we needed to go underwater to fish, wouldn't that be so unbearable hard?
Wouldn't we need to perform some sort of already spoken ritual to summon that monster from the depths and make it some ofders to help us being undisturbed? (Wasn't this already been talked about?!)

Another thing that makes me think they'll be sort of a new faction is:

    • All the other 3 factions are related to some cosmetics aspect of the game.
(Sovereign - Gold Hoarders , Sea Dog - Order of Souls, Admiral - Merchant). Why no Bilge Rats Connection to anything?

Or maybe I'm a simple way, Bilge Rats will only be responsible for new body cosmetics like Tattoos and Scars (maybe Piercings and Earrings too?)

    Let's hear your thoughts!
Comment what you think this will be..

  • The Hungering Deep website explains that they're thrill-seekers, and that we'll be partnering with them to figure out what the new monster is (even though we already are 99% certain).

  • @nunoazuldimeter I'm just hoping that we'll see these pirates inside the taverns at the different outposts. The taverns feel so empty currently.

    We will. Check out https://www.seaofthieves.com/the-hungering-deep

  • Maybe they will be pets we can purchase that will help bail the boat.

Yes I read that too. But after the campaign ends?
Will they became useless? Or will they bring a new sort of thing to remain on the game, would that could be in a form of an activity?
I would really love so. Ahah

Yep this will definitely happen. They'll be inside the taverns. But with some sort of reason?

They'll probably dish out the weekly events or have some tie to that.

Yes. That could be the reason to.
    NPC dedicated to new events.

  • I’m on the line that this whole event deals more with players working together to get this beast to show itself than most are thinking.

That’s speaking Trumpet is one clue. That helps players passing along information. Wonder if it’s something like doing stuff on one island and have a crew at a Fort to do another at the same time and such.

Then in the video they kept talking about getting players to interact and working together towards stuff. Should be an interesting event if this plays out somewhat true.

I partially agree, but I'm more of the mind that we'll be sacrificing a chicken to pacify the great beast, allowing us to do some activity in an area, instead of fight it. The language in the reveal video kinda lends towards that, and less about fighting it. I may be wrong, as that would certainly be less fun.... but it's the impression I got.

  • @drunkpunk138 only way I’m sacrificing chickens is if a Pirate named KFC shows up. I’m still leveling Merchants and those things are Gold!

I’m hyped for event. I’m just hoping it’s fun. Like the kind of fun that people come together, do some awesome stuff and some dumb stuff and at the end of the day laugh their butts off at it and make new friends during it.

I suspect it'll be that kind of fun regardless of how it plays out. I'm not worried, every scenario I've thought of with the information given seems like a blast and will only add more to what I consider to be a great game.

Also, I'm with you. I usually carry a chicken with me into every battle I seek. Sometimes one on each side of the wheel. I don't plan on sacrificing them, no sir. They are valuable members of my crew.
