Problem: The Brig has no counter-play. Once put in The Brig, the only option is to leave.
Solution: Prisoners can now break free from The Brig if they deal X damage to the cage bars. Sailors can repair the bars, reversing the prisoner's progress.

The brig is the answer to people greifing their own crew. It's not meant to be escaped unless an agreement is made or they leave.
It's also for locking your friends up and throwing up on them.
It's also frequently used to lock up players without warning or reason. This is usually because the crew is trying to get them to leave because they're waiting for a friend (which I would consider to be griefing because they're intentionally trying to ruin the player's enjoyment). Either way, it's no fun for the player who did nothing wrong but ended up in the brig anyway.

Yeah that does suck but if they're going to lock you up as soon as you join you're better off not playing with them anyways.

Or perhaps just spin in circles and collect free loot.
I do this each time I'm immediately locked in the brig with no explanation. I sit, enjoy the ride, and collect my payday.

they need private sessions and vote to kick. the brig system just leads to people being vindictive. See above post.

What is vindictive about staying in a game where the players mistreated you. You're blaming the victim. It's not fair to join a game and get immediately thrown in the brig for breaking an arbitrary rule the crew had. Throwing a rubber band on a controller and catching up on your shows is the least that you could do to the actual bad guys.

That's by definition vindictive. You feel wronged therefor now you're going out of your way to abuse other players you perceive as bad guys.
It's not the crew's fault rare failed to deliver basic and necessary MP functionality...
You can side with the briggers all you want. They aren't the victims.
If they choose to punish someone for not filling their arbitrary qualifications the least you can do is ensure they aren't 'victimized' again by having an additional random player join that doesn't meet their lofty standards. You're being honorable and helping them not be traumatized by the s**m players that have the audacity to try and play a game. Staying in the brig, right where they sent you, is your duty as a pirate of that crew.
@steelroots55 said in Suggestion: Upgrading The Brig gameplay:

Yes, they are. Everyone is frustrated over poor grouping functionality, no vote to kick, no private slots. The only thing we have is brigging which allows players to hold the slot anyway. And you knowingly doing this and feeling like its a duty because of your perceived victimization is far worse than the act of brigging someone. There are plenty of reasons to brig someone when they enter, especially if you're going to ask them to leave since many of them... like you... throw a tantrum and behave like a 4-year-old.
It's just a bad situation for everyone. And it's kind of clumsy to leave party chat just to ask... and that's assuming they can even speak your language. Brigging is a universal way of asking please leave. You taking it personally is childish. And even if they are hostile. It's still better to leave instead of just choosing to p**s them off even more. You don't know what their day was like... be the better person.
Then don't play the game. Once you've started in the game you accept the rules. If you act like a tool knowing the rules that you have no excuses. Period.

If I join a session and the crew politely asks me to leave, either over mic or via text, I leave. It's no issue. I understand where they're coming from and have been there myself. However, if I join a session and I'm immediately thrown in the brig without warning or so much as an explanation, you can bet your salty bum I'm going to park my behind in there and enjoy the fruits of their labor. At that point the onus is on them to not be jerks.
In the latest instance this happened to me, one of the players was actively on mic laughing at me. The rest of the crew repeatedly came down to visit and taunt me. I stayed in the brig for 40+ minutes while they gathered loot. I got paid, by them, for their rudeness. I would have much preferred, however, to have helped them gather said loot.
Do you not see the difference between that and what you're lamenting?

Again the problem is the game. The game is failing at basic MP functionality and the people that brig you when entering have multiple reasons to do so. What if they don't speak your language and just brig you in hopes you get the message? Demanding people to politely ask you to leave is unreasonable.
And if they are rude just leave. It's not a good reason to be vindictive. You're just as bad, if not worse because they don't have the option to block you from joining the game or kick you if you're being terrible.

Here, I do Think the game need a better sollution, perhaps just a choice of "random crew" and "just invited crew". Would solve much of the problems with this. Perhaps not the devs intension with the game, but seems to be neccessery.

Whether or not it's the game's limitation is irrelevant; we still have control over how we behave within the confines of the game's parameters. In addition, you're posing a hypothetical when I gave you an actual occurrence of what I'm describing.
We don't have to wonder about some other scenario where the players don't speak my language because these players did. They had the ability to communicate their desires but chose not to. The only reasonable assumption at that point is that they weren't waiting on a friend but simply wanted to be jerks.
It's not unreasonable to expect (or demand) politeness. I've been here since the beginning and this community was perfectly capable of polite behavior within the current parameters of the game. What changed is the barrier to entry was removed and now we have people who don't understand how to be respectful, considerate, or polite playing a game that provides tools for them to abuse and bother other players who are simply trying to enjoy the game they paid for.
@playfuldreaming

Apparently, you don't if you feel the need to contribute to griefing if someone doesn't politely ask you to leave.
Are you saying you'd leave if you were just brigged quietly? Because I don't believe that's what you suggested at all. You're just using someone else's behavior as an excuse for equally terrible behavior. You have the option to leave, they can't force you to leave and have no option to block your entry.
If someone is rude your not justified to be equally rude. You're just as bad at that point. The thing about being a decent person... there is no justification to ever not be.
It's not unreasonable to expect (or demand) politeness.
The obvious perception problem is that brigging is some how wrong as a way to ask someone to leave. It's not.
The game is broken with regards to partying.
This doesn't surprise me as it's human nature, but what does surprise me is that you're so adamantly defending this behavior.
I'm not defending them. I'm saying YOUR as bad if not worse for choosing to grief when they want you to leave... even if it's poorly articulated.
I'm saying the game is poorly set up and people are frustrated not being able to control who joins their group and the tools available for removing griefers. Just be a decent human being and your unwanted just... leave. No need to be vindictive... it doesn't benefit any one long term and it's what contributes to people insta brigging / being rude.

Wait, you believe that my staying in the brig, in the example I gave you, is griefing? There's the disconnect.
We are done discussing this.
@excitedcaius I'm with you in this brother. Your colors your ship. I'm not leaving to let some [mod edited] run my founder sails
Griefing is thrown around way too much when it isn't and staying in the brig is hardly that if you have the time to waste. I personally don't have time and wouldn't if I was in that situation. I haven't experienced it myself as I prefer to solo, but my step-daughter got thrown in the brig and called useless her first time playing with a crew because she was new. Instead of them trying to help or give her time to learn, they ruined the game for her. She refuses to try the game again. I don't have a solution but I think the brig system is very broken.
@BoggleWash
Yeah give the people in the brig a dead fish and a chain to play around with, also please make it so that every player who leaves the game while in the brig is replaced with a skeleton lying on the floor so we can tally how many twelve year old kids we've locked in the brig for lowering anchor instead of raising sails
@excitedcaius It's the only option due to the broken party system. I want a bud to join but a rando gets in first. You ask them kindly to leave and they wont....so you lock them up. For me personally if we just spawned it we'll restart but if we have a stocked ship or treasure it sucks to have to restart. The brig becomes a non issue once you can control who joins your crew.
