I want a bud to join but a rando gets in first. You ask them kindly to leave and they wont....so you lock them up. For me personally if we just spawned it we'll restart but if we have a stocked ship or treasure it sucks to have to restart. The brig becomes a non issue once you can control who joins your crew.

Yeah give the people in the brig a dead fish and a chain to play around with, also please make it so that every player who leaves the game while in the brig is replaced with a skeleton lying on the floor so we can tally how many twelve year old kids we've locked in the brig for lowering anchor instead of raising sails

I haven't experienced it myself as I prefer to solo, but my step-daughter got thrown in the brig and called useless her first time playing with a crew because she was new. Instead of them trying to help or give her time to learn, they ruined the game for her. She refuses to try the game again. I don't have a solution but I think the brig system is very broken.

Again the problem is the game. The game is failing at basic MP functionality and the people that brig you when entering have multiple reasons to do so. What if they don't speak your language and just brig you in hopes you get the message? Demanding people to politely ask you to leave is unreasonable.

And if they are rude just leave. It's not a good reason to be vindictive. You're just as bad, if not worse because they don't have the option to block you from joining the game or kick you if you're being terrible.

Whether or not it's the game's limitation is irrelevant; we still have control over how we behave within the confines of the game's parameters. In addition, you're posing a hypothetical when I gave you an actual occurrence of what I'm describing.

We don't have to wonder about some other scenario where the players don't speak my language because these players did. They had the ability to communicate their desires but chose not to. The only reasonable assumption at that point is that they weren't waiting on a friend but simply wanted to be jerks.

It's not unreasonable to expect (or demand) politeness. I've been here since the beginning and this community was perfectly capable of polite behavior within the current parameters of the game. What changed is the barrier to entry was removed and now we have people who don't understand how to be respectful, considerate, or polite playing a game that provides tools for them to abuse and bother other players who are simply trying to enjoy the game they paid for.

You can side with the briggers all you want. They aren't the victims.

Yes, they are. Everyone is frustrated over poor grouping functionality, no vote to kick, no private slots. The only thing we have is brigging which allows players to hold the slot anyway. And you knowingly doing this and feeling like its a duty because of your perceived victimization is far worse than the act of brigging someone. There are plenty of reasons to brig someone when they enter, especially if you're going to ask them to leave since many of them... like you... throw a tantrum and behave like a 4-year-old.

It's just a bad situation for everyone. And it's kind of clumsy to leave party chat just to ask... and that's assuming they can even speak your language. Brigging is a universal way of asking please leave. You taking it personally is childish. And even if they are hostile. It's still better to leave instead of just choosing to p**s them off even more. You don't know what their day was like... be the better person.

If I join a session and the crew politely asks me to leave, either over mic or via text, I leave. It's no issue. I understand where they're coming from and have been there myself. However, if I join a session and I'm immediately thrown in the brig without warning or so much as an explanation, you can bet your salty bum I'm going to park my behind in there and enjoy the fruits of their labor. At that point the onus is on them to not be jerks.

In the latest instance this happened to me, one of the players was actively on mic laughing at me. The rest of the crew repeatedly came down to visit and taunt me. I stayed in the brig for 40+ minutes while they gathered loot. I got paid, by them, for their rudeness. I would have much preferred, however, to have helped them gather said loot.

Do you not see the difference between that and what you're lamenting?

You can side with the briggers all you want. They aren't the victims.

If they choose to punish someone for not filling their arbitrary qualifications the least you can do is ensure they aren't 'victimized' again by having an additional random player join that doesn't meet their lofty standards. You're being honorable and helping them not be traumatized by the s**m players that have the audacity to try and play a game. Staying in the brig, right where they sent you, is your duty as a pirate of that crew.

What is vindictive about staying in a game where the players mistreated you. You're blaming the victim. It's not fair to join a game and get immediately thrown in the brig for breaking an arbitrary rule the crew had. Throwing a rubber band on a controller and catching up on your shows is the least that you could do to the actual bad guys.

That's by definition vindictive. You feel wronged therefor now you're going out of your way to abuse other players you perceive as bad guys.

It's not the crew's fault rare failed to deliver basic and necessary MP functionality...
