Open treasure chests.

  • Basically what it says on the top. Let us open the chests we find and take a gamble at more or less gold than the chests value.

This would also add to the wanderlust of finding high quality chests randomly placed on islands and in sunken ships.

  • Also you can decide which chest you leave as a decoy if you try to escape.

This seemed to be possible in an earlier build, as shown at 1:40 in their 2015 Trailer (see link below).

  • I think adding this “micro-function” wouldn’t make sense. Adding the contents of a chest to your gold balance would make it to easy. Emptying the chest into a heap of lots of small coins and other valuables would add way too much hassle.

I think it’s perfect the way it is. Fits into the fast paced / match based formula

Well I thought of this. Maybe get half of the gold if you open the chest (it takes like 10 seconds opening it). But you can still take the chest with you, that you can return to the Gold Hoarder without any reward. This way, if you get boarded, your enemies have to try and waste time opening the chest to:

    1. Maybe it's still full, but then you get 1/2 of the gold
    2. Maybe it's empty, so you wasted your time for nothing
    3. You decide to not open it, and risk to return it to the Gold Hoarder (you may get the 100% of the gold if it's full, or nothing if it's empty)

Now imagine if there were 10 chests and only the crew that got them knew wich ones are full and wich ones aren't.

  • I'd be happy with just a certain chest that can be opened and is full of trinkets or other small goodies to turn in
