Thanks for the experience but I’m done

  • You’ve made a beautiful game, the sunsets and sailing are fantastic. The islands are fun to explore and experience.

The players are simply another story. I’ve only played about 7 days yet each day ends the same, with some random pirate killing me while my ships at anchor, and my respawn finds my ship sailing away and sinking. At no time did I have loot on my ship outside of my two chickens being lost and not being able to finish that voyage due to a lack of chicken coop availability. It did not matter if I was at an outpost or on an island, the mo was always the same. Kill, sail away, scuttle. So, bravo to you brave pirates!

Mayhap you should impose a penalty for raising an anchor and sailing a ship that’s not your own. I don’t have a solution, only a result. I like the game and used a free week of game pass to test it out. Had I a good enough experience I think I would have paid $$ to own it, now I will not.

    Good luck in your future

Why is it so hard to comprehend my post. I have no issue with sea battles or the fear of being raided on way to port. My issue is with a segment of players that find fun in attacking an anchored ship at port. They simply want to sail your undefended sloop away and scuttle it. I’ve tried to get back to my ship when I heard the cannon shots, but in each instance was killed only to respawn on a sinking ship.

Again I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OPEN PVP! I actually welcome it anD feel it adds a demension to the game that makes it enticing.

My problem is with ATTACKING AN ANCHORED SHIP WITH SAILS UP! Mostly at an outpost, this is against the pirate code and will crush this game. Killing and camping at the place everyone must go to receive and turn in quests must end.

I refuse to jump off my sailing ship to return a chest or circle the island while my teammates do this,

A system should be implemented that prevents this issue or penalizes those that utilize this tactic. Once a ship sets anchor within some to be determined distance from an outpost it should be flagged no go. If another ship shoots it, sinks it, or boards it, there should be consequences. A notoriety and or bounty system should be installed. Maybe causing the player and his ships to turn a color that lets others know there is a bounty on them. Outpost should be zones where players can interact and share stories and grog. The inns and stores should simply be no attack zones period.

Anyway, as I said before I have no answers, just suggestions to make this cool online world fun and dangerous all at the same time.

    Last update. Sorry so long.

So Easter morning I awoke and decided to give SoT one more shot. Right out of the gate I found a sunken ship and an low an behold a captains chest. I sailed to 3, yes that’s THREE outposts and one hell of a storm before I found one not camped, And turned in the chest. It was exhilarating to say the least! I took the advice here and put my cannons up and my sail was up.

As I returned to my boat a galleon was sailing in, so I turned and sailed away, allowing them to turn in their chests without worry. I took a long half moon arch to my destination and as I anchor see the full sail gallon sailing to the island across from me. They must have thought I was easy pickings and on a chest. So they sailed over, but the island has cannons and the skeletons fired (my plan of course, I parked inside the bay and they could not shoot at me), so the gallon turned and fled. I swam back to my ship to repair a cannonball hole, and as I was repairing was greeted with a blundebuss to the back of the head. I respawned 4 times and tried to ask the player why he was griefing me, he only said it’s not agains the code and shot me, every time as my boat slowly sank.

I ended up on the island with my merhelper in the water so I patiently waited watching. Soon enough the gallon was back! I saw three people go onto the island so I swam over, slowly raised the anchor and sailed her away. Exploring I found one of them looking at a wall so I ended its life. I climbed into the crows nest and waited. As expected the crew returned and I jumped down and killed two. I was almost dead so I jumped overboard and swam to an island, found bananas and ran up the hill.

As I looked out at the sea, I saw the gallon anchored and a cannon sitting by the cliff, imagine my delight! They were in range so I began a volley of shots and hit multiple times before I ran out of cannonballs. I noticed two of them running toward me so I did the appropriate response and flanked them. One swam toward my merhelper for what reason I do not know. The other was on the beach watching so I dispatched it and waited for it’s partner to return. He never did return, I figure Mr grey suit had a snack.

Anyhoo, my quiet Sunday turned into chaos, I exacted my revenge, and uninstalled the game. I’ll check back later and see if rare has woken up to certain undeniable facts. Griefers will destroy this game.

Edit 4-6-18 well a Microsoft glitch renewed my game pass for a full month after the trial even tho I canceled the auto renew. I re-installed the game and it seems many people were correct, lots of the griefers vanished. So far I have not seen the massive numbers of outpost campers that I witnessed last week. I’ll play on and off this month, hopefully they decide to implement some changes for he better! If so I will rethink my stance and possibly purchase!

See you on the seas! If my cannons are facing the sky, sail over and say Hi!

  • @boca-g Waaahhhhh people are playing the game D:

  • I don't even know what to say... it's a PvP game, and I think it's mostly just you. I've been sunk TWICE in over 40 hours so far. Pay attention and you won't be surprised out of the blue; don't sit for an hour doing nothing... and who cares if they sink an empty ship? Respawn, and get on with it. Someone turns to attack you? Just run away, like the rest of the cowards in this game. The only legit griefing in this game is having the people you killed over and over keep coming back, and they're addressing it. I think you're just a bad player.

  • You both don’t get it, and you most likely never will. Enjoy your pointless attacks on an anchored ship. Violate the pirate code and amp the pvp game claim to your hearts contemt, it still does not change the facts. The game will gain zero traction and have a slow death, overrun by children.

  • @boca-g said in Thanks for the experience but I’m done:

    Yep.

  • "pointless attacks" : Actually you can always take some ressources and stuff for your boat so there's no "pointless attacks". But I assume you don't play this hard lvl of strategy.

And hey mate, if someone is chassing you all around and killing you when you respawn why you stay on the same server ? Just leave in 2 sec change lobby and go play with better people, I don't know, it feels like the game is taking you as an ostage.

For the last part about giving a penalty for raising an anchor that's not your own.. uh, that's.. completly against the meta of the game.

EDIT : For thoses who are totally dumb and just stick to my words, hard lvl of strategy = the way experimented crew does it.

  • @sir-kush-walker

Lol @ hard level of strategy! Every island has resources, even the smallest! Hell resources float around in bunches of barrels on the open sea. Hard level of strategy, what a hoot, you sir made my day!

  • @boca-g I've never said I was doing it (cause I suck at the game right now) but, for the real pirates, that's an easy way to get some stuff. Just sayin'

  • @sir-kush-walker JUST JOIN ANOTHER SERVER BRAH well sorry jimmy some of us have real lives other than school 6 hours a day and if i have to server skip twice to get no trolls then next time i will think "to hell with this, i'm not wasting my time server skipping." that's not gameplay. i hate the people that have made the "circle around and run past the griefers to turn in loot" the way this game is played, i am sure Rare envisioned actually being able to immerse yourself in a fun pirate world, not using game mechanics to troll/escape from trolls.

  • @boca-g Hey man, Many adventurers have walked in your shoes. This game is about improvisation. Those that adapt love the thrill of evading and even sabotaging the scourge that roam the seas. You don't have to be a master pvp'er to exact your revenge either. Just be creative. The kids are the easiest to dispose of because they lack organization. It sounds to me like you got stuck in a rut creatively. No biggie though

  • @sir-kush-walker HARD LEVEL OF STRATEGY? Are you playing SoT or a different game?

  • @boca-g I have the opposite problem, join a server, sail for six/eight hours , and never see another ship...

  • @d0wnt0wn711 a dit dans Thanks for the experience but I’m done :

@sir-kush-walker real lives other than school 6 hours a day

Hahahaha, dude, first of all, school is real life.
But I'm done with this since a long time so no I'm not. But you didn't understand the point of my message. I'm just saying that you should play the game instead of crying on the forum that "bruh people are killing me they play the game as a PVP game I should uninstall :(".

If you play with trolls/griefers as a crew or as enemies, you shouldn't hurt you more and just go play somewhere else.

But this is a temporary solution, of course Rare needs to do something against that at an higher level.

  • @sir-kush-walker Hard level of strategy? The game is as deep as a kiddie pool.

  • @simply-nephalem said in Thanks for the experience but I’m done:

@sir-kush-walker HARD LEVEL OF STRATEGY? Are you playing SoT or a different game?

    Beat me to it.

  • @esd-v-vonboom Indeed. that's my biggest problem , LACK of fools to sink. If this guy is in a sloop and cant avoid the enemy, idk what to say, tbh.

  • @boca-g goodbye ! Harhar!

  • I've edited my post for all the kiddo

That was a joke, a metaphor, an image or anything you want but ofc I didn't meant it as you think.

  • @beast-8year-old
You evidently did not pass reading comprehension son. At no point in my post did I mention a problem evading an enemy. Go back, re-read the original post, re-organize your thoughts and by all means discuss. Otherwise go back into the illiterate hole you crawled out from.

  • Do you play mostly at "prime time"? I mean I have played since release and yeah faced couple of campers. Then I took it as habit to circle outpost to see if there are ships near or mermaids in water. Never been ganked at island after that. When doing voyages I always anchor near island and check my surroundings. Unless it's flying dutchman it's really hard to surprise attack even a 1-man sloop. If you had enough that's a fine decision also.

  • @cinnumann
Yes mostly after work and that would make it prime time. I too scan the outpost and have a 100% chest turn in rate. My grief comes when at anchor after turning in a chest or while I’m in an island. In 100% of the cases my ship was at anchor with sail up. In every case it was borded, sailed away and scuttled. I see no point in that, as there is no cost to me and no deficit to the player doing it. Hell even in GTA when you steal and destroy a players vehicle it costs you. I guess I just see the writing in the wall being a gamer for over 30 years. I’ve watched games ruined in totally open sandboxes, Chaos has no longevity.

  • I guess keeping an eye on the horizon would prevent your anchored ship from sinking...

You can't expect people to go all PvE on a PvP based game.

  • You get the chicken coops from the dock lady. The same one you turn the TNT crates into. You take one from her...put it on ship..comeback for another...and so on. Also just watch out for enemy ships..It happens and it could be frustrating to some I guess, but they are pirates lol..pirates want loot and gold.

  • @i-am-oddgirl you can’t get them twice, once you lose your coops you can’t buy more. These pirates want neither loot nor gold, they want to grief that’s all!

  • @boca-g said in Thanks for the experience but I’m done:

Hey Boca G, it sounds like you should change that "my" into an "our". Have you tried playing with friends? It's a tough sea out there and it is certainly more enjoyable with at least 1 other friend to help you watch and guard your vessel! Some games are not for everyone. And that's OK. But I think you should try playing with others before you throw in the towel!

  • Keep an eye out for enemy ships. I have had a galleon do that to my sloop while I was on their ship raising it's anchor. Both ships sunk in the end.

  • entirely agree. been playing on a free trial also and have no intent of staying around atm. the game is fun at its core but the players are generally terrible. you folks realise this is a pirate game, right? your supposed to be role playing as pirates! its not an a*****e simulator, playing as an a*****e is a different game entirely.

i havent been sunk once on open water (well, ok, once when i let my friend have a go at steering and he ran me into a rock and jumped overboard, damn you mark), ive faught until i ran out of cannonballs and had to outmaneuver and flee, ive sunk a couple of gallions, but have only lost ships while at anchor.

occasionally i will go out just looking for a fight, but if i find a ship at anchor somewhere i dont shoot it, i fire a cannon into the island to let whoevers there know im nearby and wait for them to board up so we can have a fight. because thats fun, fighting is fun. shooting an empty ship that doesnt shoot back or move at all.... yeah, this game isnt for pirates it seems. ive been a pirate in other pvp games (eve online) and we really did have a code of conduct to follow, because pirates live on their reputation.

  • You must have a target painted on you then. I rarely have trouble solo, and I enjoy any attempts made to seize my cargo. Win or lose it adds to the whole pirate feel.

  • @grogandbooty dijo en Thanks for the experience but I’m done:

But what if that kind of relaxing moments is what he wants? maybe he doesn't want to be afraid and just enjoy the sunset, or sit for an hour doing nothing...

The question is, the "pacific" gameplay doesn't interfere with agressive players, but the other way around does. If you want to kill and do pvp, at least go fight somebody who actually wants to instead of playing the cat and the mouse, forcing somebody to be the mouse.

  • Listen I’ve had my fair share of time wasted but if your going to solo all the time it’s a waste you need to find a crew and your issue with getting grieved will be solved and I’ll tell you this a majority of my time spent in this game is solo can I also just add that I very fondly remember gta 5 online being just like this when it first started not much to do aside from the base online game or kill other players but now look at it I mean this is pirate gta 5 online you just need to give RARE a minute to optimize pvp add more content and use the amazing platform they made

I would want to play solo too. I like being alone and looking for secret entrances on islands or just stay around the tavern to socialize and hang around. But the game (as you just said) forces you to play in a crew for being ready for threats at every moment.

If you want to play solo and just chill, this is not your game. Sadly, because it could have been...

  • @tucupa well it can like I said most of my time playing this games solo so why is it that I’ve been able to get as far as I have if the games not playable solo it is it just is geared to have a crew which it should be I mean after all it’s an online game not single player and online just online they want you to play with others

I’m around people all day, I relax playing solo in games for this reason. I love to explore online worlds, especially when the creators spend the extra time on the environment. I still fondly remember my first steps through snow in world of Warcraft, as well as exploring the back sides of things that are never seen but for some reason the artist went the extra mile to decorate.

I enjoyed finding random Captins chests deep under or way on top of an island and the trill of getting it back to port without being raided.

I also enjoyed battling ships alone on the sea on occasion and the one time I sailed towards the huge eye glowing skull in the sky. To be sure that was a mistake, but the 5 ship battle will be one of my best memories of my short time in SoT.

However as stated in my original post, sitting at anchor with sail raised makes you an easy target. With no rule or penalty against this the game will slowly die. Every open pvp sandbox I’ve been involved with had to make drastic adjustments for this same reason. Players are at their worst when there is no repercussions to their actions. I understand Rare wants open pvp sea battles and I agree, but something needs to be done immediately to adjust for pure greifer tactics.

They where about to add a death tax but the community said no this was the consequence planned but they scraped it id say instead of leaving the game help make it balanced and more enjoyable for everyone AT ALL TIMES I don’t mind so much if I get run up on by another ship cause I prolly didn’t scope them out from afar like I should have and boogied out I’ll agree more consequences need to be added but also more incentive to work together with other crews
