Ok, I can deal with a lot... But I can't count how many times now I've spent 15+ minutes stocking my solo sloop only to have some dirtbag roll up and sink my anchored ship while I'm on the other side of the outpost looking for supplies. Seriously, I can handle being razzed by other players here and there... But There really needs to be a place Players (Especially ones who have no friends who play the game) Can go to just enjoy Sea of Thieves without that nonsense. Take the reapers bounties, fleets and forts ect out if you want, but something needs to be done about solo sloops constantly being harassed by fully crewed gallions or shot up at port before they can even stock a ship to set sail.

@dark1nate this is a pirate game it is in the title of the game sea of "thieves" just keep a better eye out for players.
Pvp free servers would go against the entire premise of the game.
@dark1nate if someone can get to your ship unseen that is on you. Look around! Be aware of your surroundings.
This is a shared world, play accordingly. How will you choose a response if you are not spotting them. #BeMorePirate
@dark1nate - The problem isn't with the game. The problem is you're still learning how to play. Experienced pirates don't get caught by surprise. You can't take PvP out of Sea of Thieves. It's an integral part of the game. But you can learn to adapt to the various threats you're likely to encounter, including other crews. Getting attacked at the outpost before you even leave port is very rare, and it can be avoided. When you log in, just find a high point and take a few minutes to scan the horizon. You should easily identify any imminent threats. If you see a galleon heading in your direction, you know you don't have time to muck about collecting supplies. Depending on the direction of the wind, you can be long gone before the galleon can roll up on you. If it looks like they're going to pursue, just turn your sloop straight into the wind and square your sails. Bye bye galleon. Brigantines are harder to lose, but you should be getting the point. It's all up to you. This is part of the game.
Never been caught unawares or “Griefed”(Which isnt a thing) in 6 months and im a solo player!!
The problem is within yourself my friend.
Take my advice, practise practise practise.
Also dont spend 15 minutes!
Sail to an island and find a storage crate then stock up.If you get sunk, slink away in a rowboat taking your resources with you and you've lost no progress.
Eventually you will find you dont get sunk because you spot them a mile off.
You will learn how to escape the ones that try.
Honestly though who doesnt love a good ship chase?
Literally its whats best about this game.
Having tons of loot because you should of cashed in but didnt, then having to try and escape a galleon when you have stuff to lose....then escaping them!
I love that!!
Gets your heart pumping and your brow sweating. If you dont like that about SOT, you’re playing the wrong game 😂
A galleon tried to get cheeky with me and my partner today and wound up at the bottom of the sea. It's all about position. Use the maneuverability of the sloop to your best advantage. When you need distance, pull a couple of maneuvers and sail straight into the wind. They'll never catch you unless you let them.
As a sloop captain, I'd rather fight a galleon than any other ship.
@genuine-heather I feel like everyone keeps saying this game has to have pvp. The thing is, the pvp sucks. There's desynch, it's slow and not satisfying at all. Me and my son was playing tonight, just wanted to do a Thieve's Haven Athena's, when a galleon shows up and starts picking a fight. I kid you not, we have an hour long fight with this ship, we were pounding away at them with God knows how much firepower: cannonballs, chainshots, fireballs, everything. They had a megaladon on the as well at one point. They even stood completely still with one of us on the cannon and the other on their ship killing them off.
They STILL didn't sink. It's ridiculous! PLEASE make the pvp consistent if it absolutely HAS to be in the game.

This is not a singleplayer game, get a crewmate.
Otherwise, accept the risks of playing alone... There are plenty of youtube guides on how to be a solo-slooper in Sea of Thieves... Just know, it will always be considered "Hard mode" because this game isnt meant to be played alone, even though it allows you to.
And please, wait until you have at least 25% completion on sea of thieves before you start criticizing the game.

The fact that you think there are hurricanes in this game, suggests you know so little about the game, that you don't even know that there are no hurricanes in the game. xD

You have to shoot galleons below the water line to punch holes in their bottom deck for them to start taking on water.
What you experienced, my friend, is your own lack of knowledge... Not a problem with the game. :P
You can shoot them in the middle deck 999999999999999999 times, and you will never sink them, unless you punch a few holes in their bottom deck. xD
And be sure to protect those bottom deck holes, so they never get repaired. ;)

I've played this game since the beta, "my friend". I know how to play. You need to keep the whole crew dead constantly for like 5 minutes. The pvp is far from fun, and this game is supposed to be about fun.

Yes, and there's a reason they keep saying so. Because they're right. Sea of Thieves is a multi-faceted game, but the threat of other ships on the seas is a fundamental part of that experience. This is the game you purchased. Embrace it for what it is and stop trying to change it.
Me and my son was playing tonight, just wanted to do a Thieve's Haven Athena's, when a galleon shows up and starts picking a fight.
Okay, so you "just wanted to do a Thieve's Haven Athena's." What makes you think that should be a breeze? There's a reason it all happens on one map. It's intentionally designed to draw players together into one area. PvP is to be expected. It's part of the challenge of the voyage. It's a legendary voyage. It's not meant to be easy or uncontested. There are all kinds of things to do in Sea of Thieves these days. If you wanted to just kick back and relax and not have to worry about PvP, you chose the wrong voyage.
I kid you not, we have an hour long fight with this ship, we were pounding away at them with God knows how much firepower: cannonballs, chainshots, fireballs, everything. I don't know what you found to be inconsistent in this case? It's entirely possible the crew was simply better than you. That's the way it goes sometimes. If you were pounding them with waterline shots, spreading out the holes, while disabling or killing the crew, they'd have sunk. They weren't kept afloat by magic. Maybe they were just a good crew and you weren't able to beat them. I'm not sure what needs to be made more "consistent". You can't win them all.
@genuine-heather We won, the "they were just better"" argument didn't work this time. It just took 2 hours because if someone just keeps bailing a ship never sinks. Not because anyone's good or bad, just because the game works that way.
No one said we thought it was going to be a breeze, please don't put words in people's mouth to create a false argument. I've spent a lot of time fighting in this game and my opinion is that it's not fun. Honestly, it was more fun in the earlier days, felt like it actually took more skill then.
@theeodee it took you 2 hours!!?! To take down a galleon ? Then in that case you didnt win the match, you win the fight when they sink and you kill off the remaining stragglers and backspawns.
Even solo on a sloop it takes no more then 10~15 minutes to take down the ship, the fact is that even a sloop with all of its holes punched open to the max size holes can be kept afloat by 1 or 2 sailors.
A galleon with 5 medium sized bottom deck holes is a challenge to keep afloat with all 4 pirates bailing for their lives.
1 bailor cant keep a well damaged galleon afloat, its simply impossible.
Key to taking out a galleon is spreading out the bottom deck holes all around their ship, making it harder to get to them especially with water at waist level or higher because it slows them down, however if you hit the same spot multiple times with cannonballs the holes get larger and flood in ALOT more water.
Larger holes also take way longer to repair.I have checked your in game stats, and for someone that played since the beta they are mediocre at best, this is not meant as an insult But if you take breaks for months at a time (which is visible from your achievement dates) you cant expect to know all the intricacies of the battling at all times, especially with changes like extended damage, fire, chainshot and blunderbombs etc.
-
chainshot is meant to take masts down, it does max damage to capstan, wheel and masts. On all other parts of the hull it does minimum damage (aka a tiny hole that is fixed in about 1 second)
-
fire is an anti personnel weapon, it takes ages before it does any viable damage to the ship itself, plus as toon as the floor starts filling with a bit of water below deck it will be extinguished there doing zero damage at that point.
-
blunderbomb is again an anti personnel weapon, it does ZERO damage to ships apart from maybe pushing them a bit, the main use for them is the knockback and on direct hit it does 50% damage to a player Be it friend or foe
And then there is the fact that a galleon sitting there with sails up and anchor up is still one of the most dangerous ships on the sea, they just need to keep you in their broadside and wail on you with cannons.
Like multiple people above have stated, a smart way where you could have saved a lot of time, if you would have prevented them from bailing/repairing it would be done, and no you don't need to keep them dead for 5 minutes, if so then you have not put enough holes in them.
Also if killing doesn’t work just cause havoc, throw fire around, throw some blunderbombs and just kite them all over the place. It was actually tested and the fastest to sink with the single same sized hole is the galleon.
Then for the OP:
Be a good sport. Sea of Thieves is a pirate game, and stealth, stealing and battles are all part of the fun. All pirates on the seas accept that, but be a good sportsman in both victory and loss.

Following we have someone that asked the question on twitter aimed at Mike Chapman (creative director at Rare) here is his answer:
If that still isn’t enough to make you see that Rare isn’t going to add PvE servers the following URL is of the live stream they did on February 4th 2020, at 55:18 the big question gets asked, “PvE servers coming” which Jon answers with e stern “No”
Private servers are coming however, these just are mostly useless for most people, why ? Because there will be completely no progression as these servers will be meant for people and communities that set up events like but not limited to:
- Race of Legends
- Sea of Champions
- The Cursed Captain (as hosted once by @kattruewalker and @eredhar)

Griefing is most definitely a thing. Just as his situation explains, there is necessarily nothing he could have done as he was searching for supplies on the other side of the island. To believe griefing doesn’t exist is willfully ignorant. Just because it is a strictly PvP game doesn’t mean that it can’t be inherently broken at times.Don’t pay attention to some of the “big guys” in this forum. Many of them are incredibly toxic and more often than not retort with character attacks and toxicity. Many of them are not even worth conversing with, I really wish Rare was better at moderating their forums.
Welcome to the Forum! Don’t feed the toxic 1000 day people that never want to see change.
@madxlad I can name something he could of done. He could of ran over to the other side of the island and killed the guys attacking him... Calling someone toxic is attacking someone's character I thought?

No, it’s calling you out on an individuals negative behavior. Different than a character attack, like differing to using someone’s skill as a means to insult them. Learn the difference. Number one rule of this forum, don’t be an aggressive jerk to everyone that pops ideas in, it don’t belong here.
@madxlad So by your own logic calling someone bad isn't a character attack. It is calling out an individual's negative behavior.

Your story, suggests otherwise... :P
And how long you need to keep the crew dead, depends ENTIRELY on how many holes the ship in question has. I don't have problems sinking galleons with my sloop crewmate, we don't care what kind of ship you have, if we want to sink you, you sink in around a minute. : /
Btw, i looked you up on the Xbox companion app, and your achievements-to-statistic ratio seems a little bit confusing.
Supposedly, you're been playing as long as i have, your stats show it:
https://i.gyazo.com/f2ce4b15ddfc698dfeaa052ff1a04ed2.pngYou're going very heavy on the merchant alliance compared to me, though... I can't stand merchant alliance voyages. xD
Anyways, here's what mystifies me:
https://i.gyazo.com/2366a41f54b6e507ce01aef4cdc3b23f.pngWhy are you so far behind on achievements? o_.
Did you not do the Tall Tales? Are you not pirate legend yet, or something? :o@sweltering-nick How can I see mines? Do I go on xbox app for it? Mines is probably awful, me and my friend do nothing of importance.
Also to the person saying you have to keep the crew of a galleon dead for five minutes to sink them that is not true. Me and my friend use to sink galleon all the time and this was before the fancy cannon balls. Just get a good angle on them and pepper them non stop with cannons(lower deck), also we would sail through rocky areas and sometimes the galleon would crash lol.

PvP is not griefing, under any circumstances... However, sabotaging your own crew IS griefing, like if a crewmate dumps all your treasure overboard, or keeps dropping anchor all the time, or keeps detonating gunpowder barrels on your own ship, etc etc... THAT is griefing...
But PvP, is a FEATURE, not griefing.

I don't have the time or patience to give you a written guide with pictures, so i'll give you the short version:
- Bring up your Xbox companion app.
- Write someone's Xbox tag into the "Find clubs or people" window, located in the "Friends & Clubs" tab.
- Press enter. :P
You appear to have enabled some kind of privacy setting though, i can't see your achievements:

no you just have to watch when you get to you're ship and be ready for a fight when you get in the server and people do this so they can sell without someone attacking them
Only time I will ever agree with PvE servers is disabled progression/gold/doubloons. The server could be used for either events, RP or just chilling with friends but once you throw any form of progression in that will kill standard PvEvP servers turning them into strictly PvP servers as anyone who grinds the game will just play on PvE servers because why have risk = reward when you can just have reward.
You really shouldn't be spending 15mins + stockking a sloop. Sloops are one of the ships you don't need to stock all that much. Even if you are cleaning out an outpost you still shouldnt spend 15mins stocking. If you are spending this much time there might be an issue with the pirate not the game :)

You said there was nothing he could do?Why not check the horizon for ships before you search?
If you see a ship move away.
Dont stay too long away for your ship.
This is basic stuff.Your also wrong in saying this is a PVP game.
It isnt.
Its PVEVP. Basically a shared world.A kracken is a legitimate threat same as any other player.
You get owned by a kracken what do you do? Learn how to beat him or escape.Exactly the same principles apply to players. Get beat by players learn how to beat them or escape.
To say that griefing is a thing in a pirate game does nothing other than expose yourself to being either a noob, or a lazy gamer.
Im not saying you are either by the way but when there is tried and tested methods like the ones people above have posted, And you find people still dont listen, then die, then continue to complain and want a PVE invulnerability speed ship or whatever crutch they cry out for, its quite dumb really.
Its not ignorance, its truth.
The truth hurts but it doesnt make it any less true.
It certainly wont stop me sinking ships and it certainly wont make Jo Neate wave his magic developer wand to make cry babies have invulnerable ships either.Griefing doesnt exist.
Only winners and losers and i know which id rather be.
Do you?
