Large list of Suggestions. Some suggested before, some not.

  • Got a few suggestions my group chat have thrown around lately. Some have been posted but I wanted to throw all my ideas into one big post.

    ACTIVITY SUGGESTIONS:

    • Bottled Treasure Maps
It would be cool if when exploring islands or shipwrecks, you could find voyages in the form of messages/maps in a bottle. This way, you don't have to purchase every voyage, and scouring every island you come across can benefit you.

    • Mineral Collection/Possible Crafting
Islands need more things going on. Fruit should be found on trees, and be able to be collected and placed into crates, and once filled (Say, 10-12 of a fruit type) it becomes a tradeable item to either the Merchants Guild, or maybe in the mines, ore or gem veins could be found and mined and collected in a similar vein, and they can be turned into a different faction or NPC to maybe earn different cosmetics. (Say you need to collect a crate of emeralds, iron, and pomegranates turned into them to create a red-dyed jeweled cutlass)

    • Tavern Games!
This one has absolutely been suggested a million times, but I would absolutely kill to see card or dice games implemented into the game. Stopping off at a tavern after a voyage and starting a calm game of poker or liars dice, maybe gambling a bit of gold with your pals, or maybe you meet some nearby passive folk and want to duel with your cards not weapons.

    • Fishing!
Yet again, another commonly suggested activity. Only comments I could add to this is that A; we could collect amounts of raw fish in the way I suggested above with other materials, and turn them into either Merchants or maybe a new Fisher's guild. B; Having fish as extra items could create the opportunities for more consumables for health, speed, etc.

    • Worldwide Collectibles
This may be something already planned for the game, who knows. But every island should definitely have some kind of hidden collectible sort of item or two to encourage searching every last inch of each island. Maybe they're something simple like a cursed Piece of Eight, a rare mysterious gem in the vein of Stones of Berenziah from Skyrim, or maybe some kind of magical tome that gives insight into the hidden world and magic of the Sea of Thieves.

    COSMETIC SUGGESTIONS

    • Trinkets!
One small cosmetic idea with enormous possibility is trinkets your pirate wears either around their neck, or their waist. Maybe exploring you could find a fancy jeweled amulet, or killing enough skeletons you can wear a skeleton bone around your hip to show off your prowess

    • Wearing equipment on your person
I've suggested this before, but it would be awesome if you could choose a few things to be visible on your pirate at all times unless they were equipped. Such as the Eye of Reach being on your back, pistol at your hip, and compass on your belt. This way you don't just have to have items held to show off your fancy cosmetics.

    • Displaying cosmetics in captains quarters
This is one of my personal favorite small things. Say you earn a really fancy pistol from defeating the kraken, but you really really like a different model of the pistol, so you put up your hard-earned reward in a display case for anyone that comes to your crew to see, and you can still use your favorite one. Or, vice versa even.

    GAMEPLAY SUGGESTIONS:

    • Various Gameplay Items
There needs to be a bit more reasoning for exploration and killing skeletons apart from just cosmetics and "findables". There needs to be some gameplay involved here. My suggestion is, instead of random hidden treasure chests on islands, maybe there could also be useful tools found instead. Maybe hidden in the caves you find a Bronze Skeleton Key, capable of opening a Castaways chest, and you could find higher levels of them to open rarer chests, or stockpile them and trade them into the gold diggers for a massive reputation increase and no gold. This way, you can risk taking the treasure chest AND key back to them for tons of rep + gold, or play on the safe side and instead of risking running back to an outpost, you crack open a few chests while still at sea. Maybe you get less gold this way, but there is the opportunity of having a cosmetic item from some kind of set inside the chests. Same goes for finding say, some sort of magical item that lets you dispel the soul of pirate captains skulls, providing the same style bonus for the Order of Souls as well.

    • "Cursed" items.
Along with the above suggestion, maybe you could find "Cursed items" that alter your progression for a time frame. Say you find a Cursed Shovel, that doubles the speed of digging, but can only be used X number of times. Or you find a Cursed Pistol that vastly increases your damage, but disappears after all 5 shots are used, and all sorts of extra variants of all the items.

    • Ship Restock, Repair, Respawn etc
From now on, when a ship is sunk, whatever materials were on board at the time need to remain static, and barrels dumped to sea for your enemy to claim.Newly respawned ships on Non-outpost islands need to spawn without ANY materials. You should not be able to suicide run whoever sunk you over and over until you eventually whittle them down and sink them. It's broken and a bit unfair. After being sunk, you should have to run around and restock from your island, or return to an outpost. Along with that, the shipwright needs to provide the opportunity to restock a ship to the standard amount, and to be able to completely remove holes from a ship. This way, you can't just give up on an empty ship and sink it for a free restock. There needs to be a tiny amount of sacrifice once you lose your vessel.

    • Different Alcohols
Pirates deserve to have a larger selection of brews than just grog, and they need to provide more. Grog needs to be the standard, gets you drunk decently quick, and needs to heal a slight amount (Say a glass is about as much as a banana), this way you can "top off" your health from a small fall without wasting an entire banana. Along with this, maybe other alcohols can provide vastly different bonuses. Drinking rum could increase your digging speed for a time frame but get you drunker faster, Ale could provide a speed buff, and wine could provide a larger healing, but be far more limited (Maybe only found hidden away on islands, or cost more?), and the tavern barmaid should be able to stock your ship with one or two choices down below.

    • Shipwrecks Despawning
Right now, Shipwrecks seem to stay forever even if they've been picked clean. My suggestion would be that once all chests onboard are cleared and no pirates are within a grid space, shipwrecks should sink back under and despawn and a new one should spawn elsewhere.

Alright. That's it for now. I love this game and I want nothing for it to succeed so this is just a bunch of stuff that I think would make the game better and create a stronger gameplay loop and more things to "strive for".

    Thanks for Listening.

  • I’d like to add to this with:

Maybe we can have ur pirate crew be cursed and be undead or maybe be like sea creatures like davie Jones’ crew in pirates of the Carribean

  • Also pet parrots

  • There were some things I noticed would really add to the games overall great playability.

    1. flare gun. Or some way to alert your crew of the whereabouts of themselves. I found many times where 2 members would stay back on the ship to protect it and 2 others would search islands but we always wanted to keep the ship moving so we could patrol for other ships. It would be great to tell your crew over chat “hey I’ve got the treasure fire the flare gun from the ship so I can board again”

    2. small tweak I noticed: when the anchor is dropped, there is no actual anchor under the ship that’s been dropped.

    3. if development does go into a safe zone mode where players can not worry about others constantly killing them, make a way for other pirates to know this as soon as they see their ship. Different or specific colored flags, different colored lamps, etc.

    4. any type of communication between ships may add something to the game. Raising different flags that would indicate each ship doesn’t want to engage in any type of battle but to just pass along, or two ships ready for battle by raising a real Jolly Roger. It Could create a wide range of trust and deceit factors to the game. Do you trust the white flagged raised by one ship, or do you even care? Maybe still go ahead to engage it in battle ruthlessly .

    5. ways to commend fellow crew members. It feels great when your crows nest crew spots a random chest through their scope from a mile away. Maybe be able to vote to commend him somehow or give him a little extra of that particular chests worth.

    6. if one begs to be released from the cell after being voted by the whole crew and he/she still is detrimental to the crew. VOTE TO MAKE HIM WALK THE PLANK!

  • @mr-pimposauress I second this, I saw an empty parrot cage In the captains quarters think that would be a great idea.

  • Messenger pigeons to other ships

  • I would like to have bigger maps cuz your sailing trips are getting over pretty fast also I would love if there is some diffiulty level and not such casual gamer [mod removed] cuz it only would helps to have fun in a long term and not by getting erverything in like an hour

  • @turtlebuttking yes please for the plank idea. Walking the plank should equate to Votekicking an unruly pirate. Planks are useless as is.

  • @turtlebuttking that would be a really cool way of communicating and could probably result in some pretty funny situations.

  • Locating teammates should be imperative. Some type of icon over the head, or even being able to always see at least the outline of your teammates needs to happen.

Hopefully they will focus on combat during these 50 or so days. Hit markers, kill feeds, or maybe being able to tag ships that you scope through your telescope. Distinguishing between teammates and enemies was difficult at times.

Can’t wait to see the finished product!

  • Some of my own suggestions:

    1. A tavern called the "Hog & Grog".
    2. Snow on North/South islands.
    3. A volcanic island that spews out molten rocks to avoid. Would have a great treasure on it.
    4. A monkey island-like adventure with fun NPCs.
    5. Lots of magic!
    6. Plenty of servers with perhaps different age level restrictions?

Can't wait for the release. I think this will appeal to a huge untapped audience...if managed correctly.

  • @theskullmasher @Deckhands The bottled treasure maps actually sounds like a great idea! Like maybe they can have possibly 4 on a map at a time and not just in shipwrecks but even randomly floating in the water or maybe you can only find it during a storm and its not easily seen. It should be a very rare opportunity that will require some exceptional skill to find the treasure.

I really like these ideas. especially the flare gun @Deckhands

  • These are some great suggestions that don't alter gameplay much if at all. @Deckhands

  • I would add to this.

To have an option to make a crew with your friends and have a ship that resemblances that specific crew. Flags et.c.

Could really add to becoming the most feared pirate crew out there ;) Arr

  • I see that the @Deckhands tag has been used but I'm not fully understanding why?

Would you like us to moderate this topic/comments? Or are you simply bringing the ideas to our attention?

    Please advise, instructions unclear haha

  • The old brass helmet diving suit with a crew manned air pump on board.

Carrier pigeons to send long distance messages to friendly pirates encountered in the game.

Map pins in the shape of ships so you could place them on the map at locations you've spotted other players.

I like the signal flare, gun might be a bit of a stretch. Perhaps a placed campfire for smoke signals

  • I agree with everything in this post so far. They are all great ideas i would like to see in this game. A Few that i would add are:

    1. A Fleet system. Like a clan with a sepreate list of freinds you can inv quick, a shared ship flags and different colored name indicators like gold over the head. So if your in the same server you could indentify them.

    2. Matchmaking options and filters. This has been perposed before and would eliminate alot of issues seen in the beta. Such as closed party, inv only, freind's and fleetmate's only. Bonus points if you can work that in with indivual spots so that you can reserve spots for friend while still being to match up with single randoms.

    3. A drop in and out lobby system. Make the lobby system were when i leave the crew or my crew leave me instead of auto-macthmaking i can have control of the lobby and i can continue to play alone or inv other players i come across in-game or choose how many slots to open up to matchmake without having to exit the game. Again this would solve ton of problem and make it easier to find a make instead of having to see every-other player a threat/enermy a more as a potenal ally.

    4. An ally system for ships in game. In the beta there people that came together dispiteall the griefing. It would be great if ship could temporarly ally with eachother granting freindly fire protections as well as a color indicator. This would alow both crews more then 4 player as well as give yet another option for small ships to combat bigger ships by alling with mutiple small ships or a bigger ship that would provide protection for a small fee ofcourse.

    5. A way to trade up for a larger or downgrade to a smaller ship in-game. Again this would be great cause i had times were my crew leave me and i have no one to play with so i sailed by myself crew a 4 man ship. It was fun and challanging. I figure out how to do it some-what effectively. I would just like that opition so i can decide how i want to play. there were crews that would cap small ships just so they can all man a sloop. This again will solve alot if grifing issues.

    6. A visual indicator for ship speed. Like a rope with a bunch of knots over or behind the ship. The way sailer kept track of there speed with knots. Like 1 - 15 knots should do. these old ship didn't really go fast.

    7. A purchase-able dinge/life boat you can only use once a way to not lose everything when you lose you ship. A sort of insurance you could say.

    8. A way to capture enermy and comender ships make it more difficult to scuttle the ship. Like instead of spawn killing we would have a option were a player could serender and ether be placed in the brig or made to walk the plank giving control of there ship to the captors.

    9. Add an option to break or free some one from the brig. lets say that im sent to the brig but the crew is attack by a enermy team and is borded. they go down in the ship looking for chest or people to kill but they find me instead. I can offer my help if they let me out. They agree now the tables have turned and with some paients i got to kill my capture and get a cut of all that booty they had on board while making new freinds.

    10. A way to stop mermaids from spawning so that you can be me stealthy there were times this would have been very helpful. Like being straned on a island with loot evading other players. Or trying to board an enermy ship undetected.

  • Maybe they could add a way for you to sink/bury treasure of your choosing and mark it on a map, but if you die other players can get the map and find the treasure. Or they could do it as it marks it on the world map on the ship.

  • These videos sum up what i think the game needs. Probably been said before but it'll be said again. Also if they've responded to these suggestions plz lmk.

Again sorry if these concerns have already been raised.

  • @turtlebuttking you can flash the ships lanterns but I agree that raising different flags would be awesome.

I would also like to suggest again the addition of a "calm sea's" arena or an outright passive mode.

  • I'd like to see a gold coin as an eye patch. Could be a gold hoarders reward at a higher level. :)

  • A fleet or clan system

where when you spawn onto a ship with your crew then all of you have the flag of your fleet which will be custom. Anyone can start a fleet and when they do the can give other players their flags. At spawn, all players will get to choose which flag they want and over time certain fleets flags will have a reputation associated with them. On top of that other crews with the same flag will have names that are white instead of the normal red and will not be able to be attacked or attack you. and once a ship has gotten close enough that you can see the flag with a spyglass then when you look through the spyglass you will see the name of the fleets in red or white text depending on whether they're the same as your or not. There will also be ranks so the person who starts the fleet can allow others to give out flags based on their rank.

  • I wish there was a feel of the "open sea"
Not every island " half a day away " but takes 4 minutes to get too... the water and sailing is to beautiful and fun to be so short i think

  • @theskullmasher
I would also like to suggest crew member silhouettes when apart from each other just like Left 4 Dead. That you never lose track of each other if you are on opposite sides of the Island.
Crew member names should remain on screen even when you are not facing each other. Losing track of each other can become an issue if not resolved by methods like the firt or second suggestion.

  • Hi

I have some suggestions too about Sea of thieves. This game is just awesome but we can make it better with some adds.

    • Allow pirates to start Merchant quest with another quest. It'll be really help people to find pigs, snakes ... during their quests.

    • Release the animal from his cage. Why should we kill it to get a new free cage ?

    • Add a little more players on the server. Some games, I don't see any pirates

    • Add some NPC on the sea with ships. For example, for halloween you can create an event with 1 or 2 big skeleton ships and we must regroup and attack it together

    • Message on a bottle with a riddle to rescue castaways.

    • Throw bananas on the floor to share it with our crew.

    • Import our own logo for a flag or even the sails

    • Allow our friends to join the game and change our boat directly on the game. I will prefer to invite friends on my game, not to leave the game, invite friends and start a new party.

  • What do people think about a similar idea to what you had in Red Dead Redemption - Once a player say has either killed a certain number of other players or sunk say 2-3 ships during the same game play, they have a bounty placed on their head and if they are killed by another player a small deduction of say 10% of their total held earning is deducted and awarded to the player who takes them down? Just another little quirk.

But if the player decides to leave and joins another server say within an hour, he carries the wanted threat over with him!!

Just a thought to spice things up a tad

  • I'd like some legendary AI ships, done in a similar way to AC Black Flag. The AI ship spawns from the heaviest storm clouds and is twice the size of our galleons but so slow, stays on the map for 5 or so minutes before disappearing into another cloud.

Managing to kill the ships captain and taking the captains skull back to a new merchant at an outpost (or even 1 set outpost) would earn you unique clothing/vanity/equipment items only found by killing that captain and match the captains look and style. Also, sinking the ship and finding its named chest and again selling it to the same new merchant should earn you a unique ship customisation just the same as was on the ship you sunk.

With this you could have 1 of each item drop into chest/skull each time which would reward hunting down these ships to find all unlockable cosmetics for each ship and captain.

    Thoughts?

  • I frankly just want more shanties in the game. Perhaps some new instruments too?
    A Banjo perhaps?
But a larger assortment of sea shanties would be awesome to have.
    Suggestions: "10,000 Miles Away"
    "The Dreadnought"
    "Spanish Ladies"
"Drunken Sailor" (Shocked this one wasn't placed in)
    "Leave her Johnny"
    "R***y Dandy Oh"
"Fifteen Men (And a bottle of Rum)"
    "The Fish of the Sea"
    "The Worst Old Ship"

Just some suggestions, I can understand most of these are sung rather than played... but they're still some really good pirate tunes that I'd love to see in the game.

  • Ahoy there! Apologies if this has been mentioned before but I think a great addition to the game would be to introduce Chum (fish scraps) to the game. Collecting this on outposts using your buckets to transfer to a barrel on the ship and then using the Chum to attract sharks. It would be good as a deterrent on enemies swimming aboard your vessel and if you could introduce a way of catching the shark or collecting resources off the dead ones then it could open up another quest for the merchant alliance. Thank you for reading and for an amazing game!

  • I thought of much that's been said here. Thank you, community, for not being indifferent.

  • So since the missions are the same throughout the entire game and they definitely need to add more what kinda things do you think they could add?

I was thinking of a bounty Hunter pvp type of thing where they have a picture of your pirate and your gamertag in the bar where you spawn or somewhere on your ship and if your the first to kill that player you get some small amount of money and it would randomly select a player so it could randomly pick you so that way you and your crew know you have a bounty on your head.

Maybe they could add a underwater mission where you have to find a place in the middle of the sea and drive below to try to get the sinken treasure but of course there would be sharks or other players looking for these as well. Maybe the way you figure it out is they tell you there is a sinken treasure between this island and that island and you and your crew have to search that area until you find it but these missions are optional so if you don't want to look then you can just keep going or something.

Maybe adding in a mission where you bury treasure for a ex pirate and return the map to him and if another player kills you on your way to do this mission or back from this mission they steal the map from you and can go steal that treasure.

Adding in a mission where you have to find and capture or kill mysterious creatures for fisherman or something.

Maybe a mission where you have to actually go and Rob a Outpost npc lol where if you do this your rep goes down but you get high rewards or something idk just throwing s**t out there

  • The wilds in the bigger islands could be more dangerous. I was thinking having some dangerous animals (something like panthers?), man-eating plants... These plants could grab a player and slowly cause damage unless killed by another player, meaning players need to explore the islands together, instead of everyone running in different directions. I know it would make things harder for single players (I'm often one myself), but hey, it's supposed to be.

EDIT: Could have cannibal tribes as well, meaning some missions could be about rescuing captives.

  • @detroits-reaper said in Large list of Suggestions. Some suggested before, some not.:

Other missions could include finding what happened with a fellow explorer. Like if someone disappeared and you are asked to find what happened with him/her. It could mean following a set of clues through different locations, and while it might look similar to some chest voyages it will at least contain some story behind it. The result of the voyage could be a paper/document/scroll (stating the result of the investigation and who is paying for the information) and could be stolen from the ship as well.

  • I think outpost look a bit empty in general. Maybe it would help to have some NPCs simply moving crates from one place to another, or fishing, or fixing something. They don't need to have dialog, other than maybe a "hello", but it would make the outpost look busier.

The same could apply to the tavern. Having some NPCs drinking, talking, laughing would make it look like a place of gathering. Some of these NPCs could even have special voyages to offer from time to time (not always, so that players would need to ask around). Something that could look like the image below:

    alt text

And while talking about outposts, what about having a place to buy resources (cannonballs, planks...) instead of having to walk the whole place looking into barrels. They could cost more or less gold (something to be balanced) but could give some meaning to the phrase "restocking at an outpost". Players could still scavenge islands for free resources as an alternative. Maybe boats should have a limit to the amount of resources you can store (I don't know if they do have a limit now, haven't hit anything like it yet).
