Re-Downloading The Game Every Update????

  • Everyone said that we won't need to re-download after the updates after the launch so what is Rare doing right now. If it's going to be like this all the time I will stop playing. We are downloading 20GB just because of some fixes. Not everyone has an insanely good internet connection...
    Please just do patches.

  • I agree - we have to re-download the entire game??? I live in a small mountain town with c**p internet connection - this is an all day affair for me and I cant use the bandwidth for anything else!!!

  • @mmasterod i agree, yes i understand why rare prefers it to be new clients everytime for stability reasons, but it will get old very fast if we are re-downloading the game twice a week lol

  • @mmasterod do you know someone who can play now actually ?..

  • Agree! I will not be able to play at all today. The download will take that long to complete.

  • I hope it will be this update and not the next ... because it does not think of those who have a small connection ...

  • As a pioneer we had to download the game every little patch, im not saying make a new launcher for the game im pretty sure microsoft won't let that happen. Im sure the store can handle little patches. At least try to keep the fixes small files eh?

We are also releasing a new game client to all players on Tuesday March 27th which contains a wide array of fixes across our services, stability and game experience. This is a full game update as opposed to just a patch. If we'd wanted it to be a smaller client update we would have had to delay by a number of days, and felt the priority here was releasing the improvements to our player base. This will be available to download during our maintenance window tomorrow morning. For our next client update, we plan to be a much smaller patch size.

  • Its rubbish I agree, but in this case it was the better option to get the fixes out quickly rather than leaving us waiting longer. Either way this shouldnt be the case going forward (maybe just a rare instance e.g 3 month update drop)

  • They absolutely need to get properly vectored updates done in future. While I'm lucky enough to be on unmetered internet, a lot of people aren't.

  • They also didnt have the decency to ensure the old client deletes itself.

So for posterity people, just delete your entire client and redownload. Don't rely on their "update". You'll end up with two sets of files.

  • @mmasterod are you sure it's a redownload? Yeah it's 20 gb, but i don't think that that's a compleat redownload.

  • i did not have to download anything......

  • On a somewhat related note, is the game downloading VERY slowly for anyone else? My internet is pretty good but it jumps down to 4 MB/s. Not sure if it's the servers being overloaded with downloads.

  • @distruttore49 It's the same as all alpha, beta and pioneer sessions it just re-downloads the game with few extra things.

  • From what I understood, patching the fixes would have taken longer to sort out, so we would have a "broken" game for several more days, so they decided to do a full client update to fix some problems which the next patch was going to do sooner rather than later, and opted to do it during scheduled maintenance. With a bit of luck, most of the annoying bugs will be sorted out.

I do feel for those that have slow internet, as even with faster speeds, it is a ball ache to re download a full client at between 9 and 18 gig, and I personally have a good few hours remaining before I can set sail again.

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS? I dealt with this through all the alphas, I often missed sessions because of all the redownloading. On pc the game is 19gb, that will take me DAYS to download. I was sure they would begin updating the game normally after it came out, but NOPE. Looks like I won’t be playing with my friends this weekend. What about people with bandwidth caps? I heard some people just can’t afford to download it over and over. You know what was worse? The windows store, it is GARBAGE. No way to cap bandwidth usage, and pausing it often corrupts the download so I have to leave my computer on for days on end trying to keep it going. I know it isn’t a problem for you guys with insanely fast speeds, but where I live internet speeds are pretty bad.

  • @chaith12
Come guy's give Rare some slack. They Explain why this is this time:

The store does updates for other apps without downloading the full app again so yes ofcourse it can, if you watch their update video about this downtime they are just doing it for speed it would of took them longer to sort out a patch and that would of been a few more days work and they wanted to get this all sorted so everyone can enjoy the game asap so they opted to go for the new client completely and get it solved faster.

  • Alright well this is gonna suck. Here’s some tips for getting this done:

    1. Download errors every time you try to start it? Restart your pc several times, it will work eventually.

    2. Don’t update it, delete the game and then redownload.

    3. I wouldn’t recommend ever pausing it, there’s a chance the update will get stuck when you unpause. If this happens, your screwed, redownload it.

    4. NEVER mess with the windows apps file, it’ll end badly every time.

  • Where is the update? I can't find any place to even begin to download the new client? Why didn't these people add it to the start screens? Anyone know where to go to download this, again....

I've never had any issues with windows store downloads not ever.

  • To be honest I think this is just a one off.. usually the first update is fairly big(fixes wise) which is probably why they decided to make a new build. But it does suck I have to admit, Hopefully in the future they will just use a patcher..

  • Just checked, it really is a full redownload. Wow. See you next week guys. Doesn’t help that I also like to have it on my laptop, that’s another 19gb. Can’t just copy over the files like steam either, it’s gotta be redownloaded.
